The snow began around 10 PM Saturday evening; but was quite
light until it became moderate to occasionally heavy between
12:45 AM & 1:30 AM Sunday morning; before slackening.
So my timing of it was again pretty good!
-2.6 F @ 1:50 AM...so winter in full force here...
The accumulation just before 2 AM looks to be about 8/10ths of
an inch new snow.
Monthly Total: 7.7"
Seasonal Total: 40.8"
*Note: the 0z ICON did a very good job of printing out the
overnight snow band.

It is -4.2 F here @ 7:07 AM after an overnight low of -4.7
F...overcast with flurries at present.

Strong indications building of a quick hitting blizzard here on
Thursday...roughly from dawn to dusk...which should put down a
quick 5 to 10 inches of snow here...and across much of the state
of South Dakota. Strong east to northeast winds and bitterly
cold temperatures should produce blizzard conditions here on 14
February.
Then there is another system brewing for Sunday, 17
February...but as my brilliant father always told me, "take it
one step at a time".

As for any relaxation of the cold...probably not much...though
Wednesday may moderate above freezing here...but basically
continued very cold the next 10 days.
In fact; there are indications that towards Days 8 through Day
10 (Feb 18 - Feb 20) some EVEN MORE FRIGID air may begin to come
down out of western Canada...this would be more like Rocky
Mountain / Western High Plains cold...so the Black Hills would
not enjoy the slight blunting of the cold often associated with
those arctic anticyclones that often come down to the east of
here.

+2.3 F @ 7:52 AM Monday morning...cold; but a little less frigid
than recent days.
It is overcast; so radiational cooling unable to do its magic.

Looks like Thursday's storm may now hold off until Friday
morning here...also; it may be sort of bifurcated...with Part
One on Friday...then an intermission...and Part Two on Saturday.
Today was pleasantly mild; with the temp maxing out near
freezing...here @ around sunset (5:02 PM currently)...it has
fallen back to about 25.5 F.

The HRDPS (Hi Resolution GEM-LAM)...also my favorite model...has
quite the snow-burst over this area from about 10 PM Thursday
evening through about 6 AM Friday morning...I mean a REAL Burst
of snow...like 0.75 L.E. to over an 1.0 inches L.E...which would
translate to a quick 10 inches of snow; AT LEAST.
The model is still outside its optimum range (6 to 12
hours)...but I would not discount it either.
