Some more light snow should break out here tonight; but I would
not expect more than another 1/2 inch; an inch at absolute best.

Picked up 2/10ths of an inch of new snow Monday evening.
Monthly Total: 5.6"
Seasonal Total: 33.0"
It is quite chilly now...@ 9:39 AM this Tuesday AM...the temp is
just 8.2 F.
As of 29 January; about 40% of the seasonal snowfall should have
fallen...so 60% to go per the climate record...but anything can
happen!
So far; I would give this winter a Grade of C...far from
great...but not absolutely awful, either.

The celebrated "snowy period" seems to have ended; yielding just
5.5" of snow here over 11 days.
Though short of the projection; it was snowy relative to normal;
as 5.5" over 11 days pro-rated to a 31 day January interval
would bring 15.5 inches of snow for the month...which is more
than twice the 7 inch January average is here.
As I have written; January is a terrible snow month here
historically; and I was lucky to salvage as much of it as I did.

Good example of this contrast today!
It is a relatively balmy +13.6 F @ 12:40 PM here in the Black
Hills; but an unconscionable -15 F to -20 F in the northeast
parts of South Dakota!

Lot of diverse...and seriously weird looking solutions at this
point...my best guess would be 3 to 5 inches...but that will be
subject to revision(s)...lol.

between midnight and 1 AM.
Monthly Total: 5.7"
Seasonal Total: 33.1"
Cold @ 2:40 AM...temp just 2.5 F.

I'm not certain how the snow event will evolve on Sunday; but I
do know that some unbelievably frigid air is poised to move down
over the area late Sunday...and linger well into the following
week. This is SEVERE COLD; with temperatures probably falling
to the -30 F to -40 F range. Being in the Black Hills will
blunt it a little bit; but it will still be the coldest weather
of the winter by far.

Pattern does not look too terrible here for the first half of
February. There will be a chance of some snow Sunday afternoon
and evening; then a possibly larger snowfall very late Tuesday
night into Wednesday.
There look to be additional chances right through mid month. It
is unlikely they will all pan out; but it is also unlikely that
they will all miss.
As I often say the Truth frequently lies somewhere in the middle
between the Two Extremes.

Sort of a quasi-stationary front just to my SW this AM...just
went through (and pushed me to the cold side) before dawn...29.7
F @ 7:24 AM.
It will probably get hung up against the Hills...and might come
back as a warm front...or stay just to my SW...will be close
call.
Some snow or mixed precip is in the area...and may move in here
shortly. Very sharp temp contrast across the front.
