To illustrate this point; the annual mean temp here is about 42
F; up at Williston ND (just south of the Saskatchewan line) the
annual mean is about 41 F.
Moreover; there are many colder spots in the Black Hills than
where I am at; places like Rochford & Deerfield Lake have annual
means in the upper 30's.

The Hardy Station webcams show they do have snow on the ground
after getting some minor accumulations over the last 48 hours;
they are at the absolute epicenter of the snowfall max in the
Black Hills; right in that spot where Lawrence County,
Pennington County, and the Wyoming State line intersect. As I
have often written; most of the western 1/5th of Pennington
County is almost completely uninhabited; that is west of Route
385 to the Wyoming line; there are a few small settlements and
Ghost Towns; but few people and fewer paved roads. Not an easy
area to traverse by automobile during the winter.
Here are the Hardy Station webcams:

After a fairly snowy October where I'm at (mainly the first half
of the month); the luck has run dry and the ground is again bare
here.
The nearest webcams to where I am are these...at the moment;
nothing going on here:

Cold wave incoming; with temps probably dropping below 0 F
Friday morning for the first time this season; possibly
accompanied by some light snow.

Picked up a quick 2/10ths of an inch of snow this evening as the
cold front went through; it is 16.7 F @ 10:10 PM.
Quite a snow drought we have been in; this was the first
measurable snow here since October 14th / 25 days ago.
Brings the seasonal total to 8.1".

This unfavorable pattern may well continue for at least the next
7 to 10 days; but I think it may start to break down during
Thanksgiving week.
It would be unusual to go through November w/o at least one
major trough digging in here in the West.
As I have written; I am located in one of the "less snowy" parts
of the Black Hills; the relatively low altitude of 4410' in
conjunction with being in the eastern half of the Hills knocks
the annual average here down to about 75".
Broken down; the monthly averages here look something like this:
September: 0.5"
October: 6.0"
November: 9.0"
December: 8.0"
January: 7.0"
February: 10.0"
March: 15.0"
April: 15.0"
May: 4.5"
Annual : 75.0"
