18z RGEM looking good with 10 inches of snow around here over
the next 54 hours...ECMWF at 12z looked pretty bad...with closer
to 4 inches.
It is 53 F here @ 3:50 PM MDT...and mostly sunny...many deer
feeding on the grass outside as I type.
I hope they stay warm the next few days! They are sooo
beautiful!

Always tricky getting representative SREF plumes around here;
the only two nearby are the Rapid City Airport; which is the
lowest altitude around here (about 3200') and is really not in
the Black Hills but rather on the plains of western South
Dakota. The only other station they do the plumes for is the
Custer Airport (elev. 5600'). I've driven by it on Route
385...it is just south of the town of Custer and is a *very*
tiny airport; in fact, IIRC you have to take an unpaved road to
get to the "terminal".
My altitude is about halfway between those two extremes; but I
am well west of Rapid City and well north of Custer; which is
really the southernmost town in the Black Hills; one might give
that designation to Hot Springs; but I always think of the
Springs as *at the southern base of the Hills; not actually in
them*. But that's just me. Having driven to Denver several
times in the last few months; I'm intimately acquainted with all
the ins and out of RT 385...and then Int. 90 west to
Cheyenne...and then Int. 25 south to Denver.

Support from the 18z GFS with 15 inches in the area over the
next 54 hours; and 21 inches over the next 5 days or so.

Looks like it is snowing up at Hardy Station per a check of the
SD webcams (near the Wyoming line); but they are quite a bit
higher than here; @ 6522'.
37.2 F here with fog.

At 9 AM MT; it looks like a few very wet flakes are trying to
mix in here; but barely!
Still 37.2 F here with fog.

35.8 F @ 11:53 AM with fog and drizzle..as the snow has not
really gotten going yet...at least it is getting cooler...both
aloft and at the surface...its down to 1 C @ 850 mb...which is
only about 371 feet above the ground here. Was close to 6 C at
that height last evening as colder air is VERY GRADUALLY working
in.

34.7 F @ 3 PM with drizzle and fog; basically no snow anywhere
in the Black Hills...nor has there been; save for some wet snow
showers.
That maxim about "take the worst model solution and divide it by
two to get your snow amounts" is working perfectly!
The RAP always has the worst solutions out here; and thus it
always has the right one...lol.
At least it is finally below 0 C at 850 mb per the SPC charts;
so we have that going for us...which is nice.
