       Elseworlds Story: Spirit Police
       By: Coolcat207 Date: April 22, 2024, 6:50 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
       Prologue:
This story takes place in... Hold on, wrong story. My bad. Ahem.
So, remember that Spirit Academy story? The one where the world
is protected by two major academies since the war between the
death wraiths and the dark spirits got so bad that it crippled
the death wraith species to the point of near extinction? The
one where humans gotta now deal with the dark spirit problem so
they don't get turn into a Happy Meal? Well, in that case, then
I won't bore you with the details. Especially since this story
won't focus on the Spirit Academy. It'll focus on something
else. Seriously, go read the Spirit Academy story, it's pretty
good. Anyway, this story is gonna focus on a certain officer of
the Spirit Police and her fellow comrades. I hope you enjoy. If
not, well, I can take a few criticisms. Just don't be an ass
       about it.
       Main Story:
       "Morning, sunshine~!"
Maya can only grumble in response as she takes the coffee from
Sam. Maya nod a thanks before taking a few sips as the two young
women walk into the Spirit Police building.
Sam: Caramel Macchiato. With cream and three sugars.
Maya: And that's why you're one of the best.
Sam: And you better not forget it.
Sam says jokingly as the two clock into work. Spirit Police are
graduated students of Spirit Academy who go on to fight dark
spirits. By fighting dark spirits and other corrupted spirits,
humans have become quite skilled at fighting spiritual threats,
to the point that dark spirit and other corrupted spirits taking
human souls is usually rare since the Spirit Police are so well
trained to take on dark spirits. Though Sam sometimes joke that
the Spirit Police work more like a military force due to the
cases they have to work on which feel like missions pulled out
the asscrack of Iraq. In Spirit Police, there are ranking
systems for both cases and the officers working in there from E
rank to S rank. Those who come fresh out of the academy and
straight into Spirit Police automatically start out as E rank,
showing that they're fresh meat. It doesn't matter how good your
score in the academy is or what rank you are at school. It don't
mean sh*t in the real world and it sure as hell doesn't in the
organization. The newbies only get out of E rank after a year at
most though some can get out of E rank faster depending on their
performance in the organization. Of course, there are benefits
for higher ranks such as the pay grade and recognition. Hell,
even E and D ranks get good pay. Although the E and D rank are
not looked down on and are instead treated as human beings,
there are some higher ranked people who are gonna be an ass and
try to flex. Both Maya and Sam are known as highly ranked with
Sam being an A rank and Maya being a B rank. Despite the
differences, the two godsisters are still close, especially
since Sam knows that Maya has the potential to be an A rank like
       her.
During one of their routines, both Sam and Maya stop by the
secretary name Eloise where Sam drop off some coffee for her.
       Sam: Here ya go, Ellie.
       Eloise: Thank you, Sam.
       Sam: No problem.
Maya: Morning, Ellie. Anything new lately?
Eloise: Nothing special other than the murder that happened
       downtown.
Sam: The Moscow Horde starting sh*t again?
Eloise: Wouldn't put it past them due to the recent sh*t they've
been pulling from illegal trades to murdering a family of four.
Maya: sighs a bit You would think that dealing with freaky ghost
monsters and Lovecraftian horrors would unite us better instead
       of creating more problems.
Sam: Hey, no matter the circumstances, there's always that one
sack of c*cks or two who has to be a problem for everybody.
Eloise: And that's why people like us gotta watch out for each
other. We need to remember what we're fighting for so others
don't have to live through this crap in fear or are forced to
fight for their lives. Besides, if we don't set some sort of
line, we're no better than the animals out there that needs to
be in a cage or put down.
Sam: Amen, sister. She says a bit jokingly with a smile.
Eloise: Anyway, I overhead a bit more about the case upstairs.
I'm sure the old man will fill you two in about it.
       Sam: Got it. Thanks, Ellie.
Eloise: No problem. Make good choices, ladies.
Sam: No promises. She says jokingly as the two begin to leave.
Though one of the E ranks bump into Maya and dropped some
papers. The young E rank panicked and start picking up the
       papers frantically.
       E Rank: I-I'm so sorry...!
Maya: Easy, you're good. Maya help pick up the papers and
organize them before handing them back to the E rank. The person
made a thank you nod before heading off.
Sam: I remember those years. Those were crappy times.
Maya: Mainly because you don't know when to keep your damn mouth
       shut.
Sam: Hey, it's not my damn fault some of them were assh*les!
Especially that one A rank... well, former A rank.
Maya: Shh! We don't talk about that...
Sam: Yeah, you're right. Don't want you to turn into a giant
bird monster again or something. Just hope that you don't end up
       laying an egg.
Maya: Very funny... She mutters sarcastically
The morning goes by pretty okay once the two go to their
personal desks which is across from each other. There are other
people as well who are also A and B ranks. They stop what they
were doing when their sergeant Liam O'Sullivan comes by and
announce himself hence everyone stopping and looking at him.
Sergeant O'Sullivan: Alright, good morning, everyone. As you all
may know, the Moscow Horde gang are up to no good, especially
with recent events going on. We got word from one of our spies
that they're planning a illegal drug trade. They're trading
dangerous spirits in vials such as hollows, literal hellspawns,
dark spirits and whatever God forsaken ghost and ghoul you can
think of. Sampson. Zolnerowich. You two will be on this case
along with O'Neil and Akama. I would send Akerman but she's
currently doing a classified mission. The gang are having the
trade off with another group called The 100 downtown in the old
factory at 1700. Stop the trade, arrest the bastards and contain
the spirits with caution. Remember: No matter the class, harmful
spirits as a whole are known to be unpredictable. Watch each
other's backs and try not to go overboard. We don't need another
Istanbul incident happening in our city.
The four that were called gather their things and head out.
Allison "Vi" O'Neil is a B rank while Genzo Akama just became A
rank. Although Genzo graduated from Dark Academy, Genzo has
proven to be a reliable ally who has saved many lives and is a
decent person minus him being arrogant at times. The four headed
downtown in the late afternoon undercover and arrived by the old
factory that was described to them by the Sergeant. They remain
out of sight behind a few dumpsters while their cars are a few
blocks away. Sam use her spirit magic to try to sense how many
       people are in there.
Sam: I'm sensing at least two dozens of them there along with a
few highly ranked. I'm also sensing different dark and/or
demonic spirits. Their power varies but nothing too crazy so
       far.
Vi: For now. So what's the plan?
Sam: We wait for our guy's signal. Once we get the okay, we'll
bust in and shut this down.
Maya: A shame we couldn't get the leader.
Sam: We'll get his ass one day, Maya. Just not today.
Maya frown a bit. She has been wanting to go after the leader of
the Moscow Horde, Darkov Lukavyy, a cruel crime lord and a S
class spirit user with fallen angel like spirit power. The
bastard is known as The Butcher of Moscow who has taken many
innocent lives. He was the reason why her mother Natasha
Zolnerowich almost died that one Fall Equinox night when Maya
was still at Spirit Academy. Luckily, her father Ezekiel and one
of the Darkfires manage to save her mother and defeat Darkov.
Unfortunately, he escaped and is still wrecking havoc to this
day. Maya swore that she will stop Darkov, even if he has to die
by her own hands. Genzo notice Maya's state of emotion and tried
to cheer her up when Maya overheard something on the mike (which
makes sense since the spy is wearing a wire). Maya makes a shush
sound and use her zapper powers to better listen to mic. She
heard an argument with another gang group called The 100 which
led to a brawl with guns and spirit energy, making Maya swear in
       Russian.
       Sam: F*ck it! Let's move!
The group ran toward the old factory and barge in. The place is
more chaotic than they thought. Though there are some that
       notice the group.
100 gang member 1: F*ck! The ghost pigs are here!
100 gang member 2: Waste them!
Maya use her zapper powers to telekinetically push the gang who
tried to fire at them back a few feet, leading to them crashing
into some old crates of gears and tools. After creating an
opening, the others waste no time. Sam use her special shadow
kick move to knock a few members down. She even perform a
nutcracker move on a Moscow Horde member, making him sing the
soprano in pain before falling over. Meanwhile, Genzo takes out
his katana and start taking down more members with his own
spirit energy. Meanwhile, Vi rush over to the spy to help them
make sure that the vials of dangerous spirit energy doesn't
leave the building, with Vi acting as cover. During the fight,
Genzo is sent flying backwards and crashed into Maya who just
punched someone's lights out. The two manage to collect
themselves to see the higher rank from Moscow Horde transform
into a wendigo while the member from 100 turned into a ifrit
       with magma like flames.
       Sam: Oh come on!
       Vi: Any ideas?!
       Genzo: Survive? He suggest sarcastically
Sam: Vi! You and I will take on the fire bastard! Genzo and Maya
will take on the creepy deer f*ck tart.
As she says this, both Sam and Vi rush over to the ifrit.
Meanwhile, the wendigo tries to slash at Maya, which led to Maya
clashing her fist against it and releasing a shockwave to try to
blast it away. Unfortunately, it barely scratch the wendigo,
shocking both Maya and Genzo. Before Maya can retaliate, the
wendigo grab Maya by the face and slam her to the ground,
creating a crater on the ground. The sudden burst of spiritual
aura from both enemies show that they got an increase in power.
Before the wendigo can tear Maya apart, Genzo slash at the
wendigo's back. It didn't do too much damage but it did give
Maya a chance to blast it away with her spirit lightning. Maya
gets back up and let her wounds heal with a burst of lightning.
       Genzo: You good?
       Maya: Yeah.
Genzo: Then let's wrap this up. Getting sick of these losers.
       Maya: Agreed.
The two then go to their spirit release form, taking on semi
beast like forms. Genzo takes on a humanoid kitsune form with
six tails, piercing glowing red eyes and fox ears along with
sharp claws and teeth while Maya takes on a humanoid thunderbird
form with wings, talon like claws and piercing glowing blue
eyes. The two then block another attack from the wendigo, this
time ready for it. The wendigo looked shocked though the
expression quickly turned into a mixture of rage and annoyance.
Genzo: Upset about us not being easy picking? You should be,
assh*le. Especially since you're facing the two of us. Any one
of us alone should be enough to cave your ugly face in the
       pavement.
With that, both Maya and Genzo both Spartan kick the wendigo in
the chest, sending him skidding back into a wall. The wendigo
tries to attack the two with it's ice but Genzo destroy it
easily with his flame spirit ki. Maya then dash forward with her
own spirit ki and perform her X-ray move once the wendigo gather
itself and tries to attack Maya, only for her to uppercut it
stunning it. She first delivers a barrage of punches to their
ribs and chest, breaking them one by one. Second, she delivers
an uppercut to the jaw, smashing it and launching them upwards.
Finally, she leaps towards her falling opponent and lands a
final punch to their spine, breaking it and sending the wendigo
back on the ground. Genzo then use his katana to lop off the
antlers, turning the thug back to normal. Maya lands on the
ground in time to see Genzo purify the thug. He then powers down
and pick up the thug. Maya powers down and look over to Vi and
Sam walk over with the other thug in cuffs and leaning on a
       wall.
Genzo: cuffs the thug he is holding You asswipes are under
arrest. You punks should be lucky you're still breathing.
Sam: I'll call it in. Make sure the "goods" doesn't go anywhere.
Vi nod her head and goes over to check on the undercover C
ranked officer and the drugs. Meanwhile, Maya overhear the thug
coming to. Although too weak to fight back, all he can do is
glare at Maya since she is at his vision.
Thug: Can't believe this sh*t. I got my ass beat by a bunch of
dogs. That spirit power is suppose to make us all stronger.
Maya: Even if it cost your humanity? Because if that's the case,
then that's why you and your pals lost. Despite our differences,
we fight to protect others. You guys use your gifts to cause
       harm to others.
Genzo: Like we don't have enough freaks to worry about. We don't
need a couple more running around as well. He added.
Things go as expected for a standard cop moment. The rest of the
Squadron came and take the thugs who are still alive so they can
be put into jail though some who use the no no spirit juice got
purified. The group and the spy return to the station to report
what happened. After the day is done, Maya went to go visit her
family. She did give her father a heads up before visiting and
she does have the key. Though when she enter the house, she was
not expecting to see her godmother Kanna Darkfire instead, who
is an S rank in the Spirit Police Force.
       Maya: Aunt Kanna?
       Kanna: Hey there, kid.
Maya walks over and hug Kanna, which she return with a small
       smile before the two stop.
Maya: I didn't know you were coming here.
Kanna: Yeah, I wanted to talk to your father but he isn't here.
Though your mother and sister are upstairs.
Maya: Okay. How is she anyway?
Kanna: She's getting better. She'll be going to Spirit Academy
this fall at this rate. Heard about your recent case with the
loudmouth. Nice job. Seems like you also got the hang of that
       thunderbird power.
Maya: Yeah. And don't worry, I'm not going overboard with it.
thinks for a minute Though I feel like this is more than seeing
       us.
Kanna: It is unfortunately. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind
seeing Metal Arms again but this is important. Remember those
vial of malevolent spirit essence you and your friends
confiscated? Alisa and I manage to trace it back to the 100.
       Well, whatever's left of them.
       Maya: Wait, what?!
Kanna: Yeah. Torn to shreds. Looks like a butcher snort some
       coke and went rabid.
Maya: Darkov. She hissed out Seems like he got sick of Tobias'
       sh*t.
Kanna: Pretty much. Not sure what he did but seems like Darkov
had enough. There's also rumors that Nightshade is making a
       comeback.
Maya: Nightshade?! But you and Dad destroyed them along with
       Aunt Max and the others.
Kanna: We did but seems like whoever is still crawling around
are trying to join with the next big bad.
Maya: Dad is going to pop a vein. sighs lightly
Kanna: Oh yeah. But your accomplishments and future rank up
       should calm his blood pressure.
       Maya: True-- wait what?!
Kanna: You heard me. And no, no one pulled any strings. You
earned this by busting your ass. Just don't let it get into your
head or anything. Last thing I need is you getting killed
because you were being an idiot.
       Maya: I won't, I promise. Still, I couldn't believe it. But if
it's to protect those I care about and people aren't force to
fend for themselves, then I'll keep fighting. I just wish that
Zoe didn't have to go to Spirit Academy for the same thing.
Kanna: Heh. You sound just like your old man. He has the same
goals you do along with protecting you, Zoe and your mother. And
here you are following his footsteps. Family full of strong
hearted warriors. Still pretty boar headed though.
       Maya: Heh. Pretty funny.
Kanna later on leave the house with a see you later. Kanna hate
saying goodbye to people she cares about since it means that
she'll never see them again. Sensing something close by, Kanna
stops in her tracks and use Sonido to appear behind a figure
with a dark hood over the head, completely covering the face, on
       one of the rooftops.
Kanna: I knew I smelled something foul.
Dark figure: Well, that's pretty rude. Is it a crime to go sight
       seeing?
Kanna: Cut the bullshit. I know you've been spying on them,
       vampire.
The vampire remove the hood, revealing a male vampire with a
       cocky fanged grin.
Hazeldine vampire: Very good for a hybrid. Then again, I don't
expect anything less from you, Kanna. Darkfire or not.
Kanna: Give me one good reason why I shouldn't rip your head
clean off, Xigbar. She demands as she fold her arms. Despite the
neutral tone, it's clear that Kanna is less than enthusiastic of
seeing her rival being here. Not only you were there when Maya
and her team busted that drug trade, there was also word of two
of your own at Spirit Academy, knowing damn well your people are
prohibited to even be there. And now I see you here spying on my
godkids. This more than a damn coincidence. What the hell is
that old cryptic bastard (Dovelthain) planning?
Xigbar: That's not up to me to say. Though observant as you are,
it still baffles me even more that you're using your powers to
       help these losers.
Kanna: The dark spirits and hollows are our main enemy. Sticking
together and defending one another is how we can beat them.
We're suppose to protect each other, not use the weak for our
own gain or tear each other apart. Something you assh*les
       forgot.
Xigbar: Oh please. You're not that damn naive. Mankind is well
known for screwing each other over. Doesn't matter what crisis
we're in, they'll always find a way to make things ten times
worse. You're so worried about me that you forgot that
"godfamily" your family care about so much has some skeletons in
their closet as well. I mean, sooner or later, someone is going
to come for those kids. Especially the little cub. Her spirit
powers are stronger than most people. A lot of people are going
to come after her. And your family can't be everywhere at once.
Kanna: If I even smell you near any of those kids, I swear to
       God--
Xigbar: Hey, don't shoot the messenger here! It's just a
thoughtful warning. I'm just doing my job. Whatever happens,
happens. You just gotta be prepared for it. Xigbar takes a few
steps but stops in his tracks Either way, know this: You're not
like them. And I'm not just talking about Robo Fist's family. I
mean in general. Let's be real: The only reason why you're still
part of the Darkfire family is because your mother was part of
that family. Otherwise, they would've killed you for being a
hybrid. The quicker you know this, the better. That is if you're
smart enough. If you want to keep living that fantasy life, go
on right ahead. Don't wanna hear you crying later on. No wait, I
do. I wanna hear you say that I'm right.
Kanna: Do you have anything really important to say or are you
       going to waste my time?
Xigbar: Oh yeah. Here's a little piece of advice from dear old
Xigbar: There's no good in playing hero if you can't save
yourself. Stay vigilant. Something's coming. And even you can't
save everyone. Not every foe you face will have fangs or soul
sucking powers. Something to have in mind. Laters~!
With that, Xigbar disappear in a burst gravitational darkness
before Kanna can stop him. Kanna curse to herself as she looks
over to the Zolnerowich home. She notice Maya saying goodnight
to her little sister Zoe before the girl goes to sleep. Kanna
sigh a bit to herself before leaving. Xigbar has a habit of
messing with people. With that, this ends another story in this
universe. Although Maya's mission went pretty well, she knows in
her gut that she and her allies need to prepare themselves for
what might be an upcoming war. She just hope that the wrong
people doesn't get dragged into it.
       End
