Community Special Race: False Werebeast
Pride: Easy, easy! Caleb's not a werewolf!
Gregorio: Oh, really? Then what the hell am I looking at here?!
Theo: A mutant with furry powers.
Caleb: growls Smartass.
Percy: Look Gregorio, I know. I was in the same shoes you were
in when I first saw Caleb like this but he's not a real
werewolf. He's a metahuman. That's it.
Gregorio: tries to collect her cool Okay. So even if he's not a
freaking werewolf, does he... you know...?
Caleb: Unless you're a deep dish pepperoni pizza, then no.
~The SCIS team explaining to Tammy Gregorio that Caleb Dimitriou
is a human mutant and not a real rougarou
"C'mon, man. I'm not a werewolf. I'm a human mutant that can
change into one."
~Vivian Langston to someone who mistook her for an actual
werewolf.
"You know how the mutant gene goes, right? It's random and
normally it's the men that carries it, mutant or not. Erm,
complicated biology aside and crap, the thing with my side of
the family is that we have the same mutant ability type to turn
into a werebeast. Well, not exactly. Long story short, each
generation gets a different werebeast gene type. Your
grandfather had the wereboar gene, I got the werepanda gene, and
you got the werewolf gene. Though, it's rare in our family to
even get that kind of gene that you have now since it's pass
down once every century for some reason. But I want to tell you
this in case some knucklehead gets the wrong picture and trust
me, this is gonna happen A LOT. You are NOT an actual werewolf.
You are a human mutant who can turn into one at will once you
get the hang of it."
~Jeremiah Langston explaining to his daughter, Vivian Langston
about the false werebeast gene.
Other Names:
False Lycanthropy
Pseudo Werebeast
Artificial Therianthropy (mammals only)
Artificial Zoanthropy (all animal types)
Background:
This is an ability that falls into the feral class of
metahumans. These metahumans have the ability to manifest into a
werebeast whether it's an animal form, a werebeast form or both.
The most common form is to turn into a werewolf though there are
many others who can turn into other types of beasts such as
werebears or werecats. This ability can either be passed down
from a certain bloodline or it can randomly show up, whether
you're from a mutant family or not. These false werebeasts don't
share the same abilities that true werebeasts do such as turning
humans into werebeasts via bite or be vulnerable to silver,
which can be proven beneficial to many false werebeasts.
Abilities:
Pseudo-Werebeast Physiology:
~Users are pseudo-werebeasts, entities that exhibits part or all
of the usual features associated with actual werebeasts but lack
their magical origin. The source of their therianthropy is
scientific, not mystical although some mystical elements have
occasionally been introduced into them. Unlike real werebeasts,
they are not vulnerable to the traditional weaknesses of
werebeasts, like silver weapons.
Applications:
Environmental Adaptation
Natural Weaponry
Feral Mind

~Peak Human/Enhanced/Supernatural Speed
~Peak Human/Enhanced/Supernatural Stamina
~Peak Human/Enhanced/Supernatural Strength
Regenerative Healing Factor
~Peak Human/Enhanced/Supernatural Regeneration
Transformation/Conditional Transformation
~Partial Transformation
Traditional Weakness Immunity:
~False Werebeast are immune to traditional werebeast weaknesses
such as silver and gold. To them, these kinds of metals will be
what lead would do to actual werebeasts which will do little to
no effect to them or just annoy/enrage them.
Animal Imitation:
~The user can use/imitate animal powers, they can run like an
ostrich, swing like a monkey, sprint like a cheetah, move like a
cat, take the strength of an ant, track like a dog, hide like a
turtle, constrict like a snake, etc. They cannot transform into
animals, as this power only enables the user to mimic
animalistic traits while still in their original form. Some
users can mimic multiple animals at once.
Ultraviolet Vision:
~The user is able to perceive ultraviolet radiation, allowing
them to see colors other can't, see well underwater, in the fog
and in the rain, see fingerprints left on objects, as well as
other traces such as saliva and blood.
Infrared Perception:
~The user is able to perceive the infrared spectrum (i.e.
temperature), allowing them to see temperature variations in
objects and environment. This ability is incredibly useful for
observation purposes, as the user is able to see the heat
presences of any living targets.
Shift to Man Beast:
~Like true lycanthropes, false lycanthropes can shape shift into
an animal form and/or a man beast battle form.
Poison Blood:
~False lycanthropes may not be able to infect others, but other
supers that bite will get a nasty surprise. A false lycan's
blood is so toxic that it can make those with regeneration very
sick for up to 2 hours depending the super's regeneration
strength and stamina.
Lycan Bite:
~Just like true werebeasts, false werebeasts have the ability to
have a strong bite force. Depending on the animal they can
transform, their bite force can be just as deadly from being
able to destroy metal to even strong enough to crush bone.
Lycan Life Absorbing Bite:
~Absorbs life and recover stamina by biting enemies.
Animal Swarming:
~The user can disperse their body into a swarm of animals, be
they of a single type of animal or many different ones,
scattering into large area while retaining control over their
fragments instead of staying in relatively cohesive form and
reforming from any part. Although common for some false
werebeasts such as werebats to do this, other users are capable
of performing this as well such as one false werewolf was able
to split herself into a pack of five wolves.
Werebeast Combat:
~The user is able to incorporate werebeast power/ability into
physical combat.
Lycan Slash Combo:
~Unleash a flurry of claw slashes to a group of opponents. The
pure force of the slash combo actually cuts through the air and
very few can block this attack.
Lycan Claw Slasher:
~Fires a wave at opponents from the claws at an opponent from a
distance.
Wing Manifestation (for false werebeasts who's beast has wings):
~Some false werebeasts has the ability to manifest wings for
flight. They can also use them for combat such as blast gust of
wind toward enemies.
Weaknesses:
All false lycans MUST transform once a month on a full moon or
face going feral insane. The longer they wait, the more
animalistic and feral they become so it is best that they
transform immediately as soon as the full moon first appears.
Another problem they face is that they are still affected by
phases of the moon, which can turn into a huge problem for them
during the red moon phase, making them such as savage as actual
werebeasts influenced by the moon.
While in their false werebeast form, the user cannot orally
communicate with others. Instead, they only have the vocal cords
of the animal they transform into and can only make such noises
as one such as hissing like a snake, barking like a canine, etc.
Although in this form, they are capable of communicating
telepathically with those with telepathy which can make
communication easier. Communication can also be made easier for
other with animal powers (users of the Red) along with people
who can use magic or technology to help translate what the false
werebeast are trying to say. There are even times that some
false werebeasts can even find ways to write or even use sign
language if the user have fingers. But that depends on the false
werebeast and what kind of allies they have, otherwise, they may
be stuck only communicating via animal noises.
While false werebeasts may retain their human consciousness,
they are not immune to wild behavior. This can sometimes dull
their intelligence or override their usually up-right and moral
consciousness, making them act more like wild animals than
people, especially if they're not careful. This can be a problem
when they're working with allies which can turn sour for them.
False werebeasts may be immune to weaknesses that can harm
actual werebeasts such as silver and wolfsbane, they are still
vulnerable to other weapons that can give them problems such as
varanium and carbondarium. They are also vulnerable to other
forms of anti-regeneration weapons such as death weapons and
soul eater weapons.
Although they are not true werebeasts, they can still be
mistaken for one which can be very bad for when they encounter
hunters, especially hunters who are the shoot first, ask
questions later types. This can serve as to be a huge pain in
the ass or a traumatic experience for false werebeasts, even
when they prove to not be actual werebeasts unless there's
someone who has the ability or technology to tell the false
werebeast from the real one. Even so, this can also turn to
another problem since there are still prejudice against
metahumans, thus also giving false werebeasts a hard time as
well, showing that one way or another, they will be feard and
hated by people which will lead to someone hunting them down.
Known False Werebeasts:
Rahne "Wolfsbane" Sinclair: Rahne is a well known example of
this ability. Rahne is a mutant with the mutant powers to
transform herself into a wolf at will, or into a transitional
form which combines human and lupine aspects. Rahne first
developed her mutant power of lycanthropy, she was mistaken for
a werewolf. A group of terrified, religious locals believed that
she had been possessed by the devil. Led by Reverend Craig, they
chased Rahne across the Scottish highlands. At the end of the
chase, Rahne fell unconscious and reverted to her naked human
form at the feet of Dr. MacTaggert, who saved her from the mob.
Doctor MacTaggert became a surrogate mother to the young mutant
and took her under her protection, then took Rahne to America,
to be schooled by Professor Charles Xavier.
Caleb Dimitriou: Caleb Dimitriou is one of the well known False
Werebeasts in New Orleans though he has the ability to turn into
a Rougarou, a legendary creature in Laurentian French
communities linked to European notions of the werewolf. Not much
is known about his past but he manage to later on join Pride and
became a part of SCIS where he became a strong agent and a loyal
member of the group to the point of calling SCIS his family.
Langston Family: The Langston family is one of the more unique
side of this ability. The Langston family are a family of
mutants who's false lycan powers are hereditary. Though what
makes them different is that each generation has a random beast
gene that gives them the ability to transform into one. For
example, Stanley Langston's has the swine gene which gives him
the ability to turn into a wereboar, his son Jeremiah has the
ursine gene, which gives him the ability to turn into a werebear
(panda) and Vivian has the lupine gene, which gives her to turn
into a werewolf. Though it is stated that certain genes such as
the werewolf gene are rare to get which happens ever century or
so. No one knows exactly why other than believing that it might
be due to a recessive gene.
