"Everyone has something to fear..."
"You think YOU inspire fear?"
"Everyone fears to lose something."
"Fear is the glue that holds society together. It's what makes
people suppress their worst impulses. Fear... is power."
"It doesn't matter if you're not afraid of me... All I have to
do is threaten the people you care about."
"Fear is the most powerful emotion. Fear is my weapon."
"Even gods succumb to fear..."
"Touched a nerve, did I?" - Scarecrow when someone yelled at him
in anger after he mentioned a tramatic experience.
"Sit down... Have a drink... Knocks opponent down and throws
alcohol on enemy. You look like a man who takes himself too
seriously. Do you want my opinion? Starts lighter and lights
enemy on fire. You need to lighten up." - Scarecrow to someone
he gased with fear toxin
When fighting a servant of Cichol.
Scarecrow: You fear failing Cichol...
Enemy: I always manage to make him proud!
Scarecrow: Because you're afraid of him.
During a fight with Nightbane during the Order of the Dragon
days.
Scarecrow: You fear your mother's hatred of supernaturals and
the subsequent hatred of humans who hate supernaturals is a part
of you.
Nightbane: Her ideals almost turned me into a true monster. I
doubt I would have ever been with the Order if she had accepted
me instead of trying to suppress me.
Scarecrow: Parental issues... Gotta love the classics!
During a fight with Nadia.
Scarecrow: You think you're escaped the Order?
Nadia: I don't fear you, Scarecrow...
Scarecrow: I wasn't just referring to me... You fear the
remnants of the Order wanting revenge for your betrayal and
going after your friends.
Nadia: I'm not going to let anyone hurt my friends.
Scarecrow: And how hard will it hit you when they all die
because the Order's survivors want to hurt you? There's more of
us left than you think!
During a fight with a demi-god.
Scarecrow: What does a demi-god fear?
Demi-god: Nothing.
Scarecrow: Smiles. I'm not so sure...
During a fight with Viktor.
Scarecrow: Your wife's death still haunts you.
Viktor: Of course it does.
Scarecrow: I can work with that... He says menacingly.
During an encounter with Lady Hild.
Scarecrow: Would you like to know what your subjects think of
you?
Lady Hild: I don't really care what they think.
Scarecrow: They call you a cheap attempt at replacing Cichol. He
says menacingly.
During a fight with Captain Cold, who became a villain after he
lost his sister.
Scarecrow: Afraid of death, Cold?
Cold: I prefer to flirt with it. *He says jokingly.*
Scarecrow: Smiles. So did your sister.
During a fight with Atrocitus before he gained a yellow lantern
ring of the Sinestro Corps.
Atrocitus: Sinestro seeks your power...
Scarecrow: I would gladly wear his yellow ring.
Atrocitus: I will destroy you and his core!
During his fight with Atrocitus.
Scarecrow: All your rage is for nothing.
Atrocitus: Vengeance is everything!
Scarecrow: Smiles evilly. But your family is lost forever!
During a fight with an enemy.
Scarecrow: You watched your entire family die.
Enemy: I don't like to remember it...
Scarecrow: Smiles and holds his scythe threateningly towards the
opponent. Face your fears!
During a fight with Poison Ivy, who could poison people by
kissing them.
Poison Ivy: Normally I'd offer a kiss...
Scarecrow: Well come on then... Kiss me! He says cheerfully.
Poison Ivy: Glares. You make my skin crawl.

~ Scarecrow
- Death Scythe with Attached Chain: At one time, Death tried to
recruit the bubak as reapers for the certain pantheons, since
they were creatures of death. Of course, this didn't go well,
since the Bubak ate more souls than they sent to the afterlife.
The bubak also gained death scythes as part of this recruitment,
and now all bubak are able to summon death scythes. For
Scarecrow, he has a smaller death scythe, attached to a chain
which he can use to throw the scythe like a chain-sickle. This
is a fairly standard death scythe, able to kill anything if it
strikes the heart or brain regardless of regeneration. This is
even able to kill gods and other "unkillable" things as these
are meant to reap any kind of creature, with them even being
speculated to be able to kill incarnations of the Horseman of
Death. Of course, to kill a creature, the scythe must either be
in physical contact as the person's injuries kill them, or the
scythe must pierce the heart or brain of the victim (with
cutting one's head off sometimes also doing the trick depending
on the creature).
- Soul Clothes: Bubak are strange creatures that are able to
weave their clothes using souls. It isn't known how this works,
other than the bubak are able to essentially weave using souls
as the threads. When one looks at a bubak's outfit, they are
actually looking at a mass of souls that have been weaved
together. These souls are unable to fight or even manifest, and
cannot even be removed when they turn hollow, still essentially
being threads that make up the bubak's clothes. This is useful
in a few ways, in that the first is that the bubak is able to
create clothes (just don't ask how a bubak is able to make a
soul like thread) which they obviously wear just like most
creatures wear clothes. The second, though, is that the bubak
gains a defense when wearing their clothes, since it is very
difficult to cut souls with most mortal materials. The only way
to free the souls is to pull the threads out and then hand off
the souls to a reaper to take to the afterlife. Of course, if
the soul pulled off is hollow (which it usually is), it may
require a soul reaper or certain death wraith to handle removing
the corruption. Because souls are already dead, they offer a
great defense, with most attacks that hit a bubak's clothes will
just torture the souls part of the clothes.
Bubak Creature Abilities:
"A Bubak is a scarecrow-like entity said to hide along
riverbanks. It will make sounds like an infant in order to lure
victims, adults and children alike to their doom. Further, the
Bubak has a cart that is driven by cats. The Bubak’s clothing is
made from the souls of its victims."
~ A mythology book's loose description of a Bubak.
- Unique Bubak Specialty: Creature of Fear: Many bubak are
different depending on what they specialize in, with some having
different ways of doing their work. Each bubak skillset is
essentially different, with some being creatures of different
embodiments. The one thing they do all have in common, besides
all having a specialty, is that they are all a type of naturally
occuring ghost-like creature with undead type abilities. For
Scarecrow, he is a creature of fear, and his entire being is
focused on this aspect. Scarecrow is the very incarnation of
fear, and all of his abilities are centered around this, from
the fear given off by the souls in his clothes, to his ability
to generate a powerful fear toxin from his bubak body. Scarecrow
is perhaps one of the most dangerous bubak in existance due to
his ability to overpower almost anyone with fear, since he is a
master of fear and became even more dangerous when he was
granted dream demon abilities and a yellow lantern ring that is
powered by fear.
- Bubak Spiritual Possessor: Bubak are able to possess objects
and even people, with them being able to take a ghost-like form
and possess similarly to demons and angels. This ability is
useful if a bubak needs a new body, where they are quite
difficult to permanently kill because of this ability. They are
able to possess people, but usually they possess scarecrows and
use those since the scarecrows are most like their normal
bodies. As such, they are able to possess any type of creature
that they are able to, assuming that the person doesn't have an
anti-possession mark or some form of defense against it. When a
bubak takes over someone, the battle is not in the mind, but in
the spirit where the bubak will attempt to overpower the spirit
and take over. This makes a bubak possession dangerous,
especially with the fact that they can devour souls. If they
lose their body, they can use this to gain a new body, and
usually use their shapeshifting to gain a new body. The best
defense is an anti-possession mark, which makes it so spiritual
possession is pushed out, but strong enough spirits who can push
another spirit out can also fight this possession. Usually this
power is used for gaining new bodies if their main body is
destroyed.
- Soul Devourer/Soul Weaver: Bubak are able to use souls for a
few different uses. The first is typical, which is that bubak
are able to devour souls to sustain themselves. They are able to
devour souls of those like a typical soul devourer, and grow as
they devour souls. Bubaks eat souls of those they kill, and do
so similar to other soul devourers. They are also able to eat
the souls of hollows and other supernaturals. The other use for
their ability to devour souls is that they use souls to weave
their clothes. It's not known how a bubak does this, but somehow
they are able to strain souls shapes until the souls are like
thread and use them to weave clothes for themselves. This can
have a few advantages, with certain bubak being able to feed off
the energy given off by the souls. For the bubak, they are also
able to use the souls in their clothes for defense, in which the
souls are able to take hits far more easily than them, and are
much more difficult to cut than typical matter. Bubak are able
to do either or with souls, choosing to eat or weave clothes
with them.
- Soul Power/Ability Gain: Bubak are able to get stronger
through devouring souls, and are able to gain new abilities as
they devour souls. This is similar to other soul eaters, in
which bubak have the abilities to gain from the souls they
devour. The first is that they grow in power, with souls acting
as power amplifiers as they devour souls. This is the main use
for devouring souls, since they use this to strengthen
themselves. However, they are also able to gain new abilities
using souls, in which they can devour the souls of supernaturals
and those with special abilities. This is partially why some
bubak also gain the power of hollows, due to some of the souls
they eat being corrupted by living energies. They are able to
choose whether or not they want these abilities, and can reject
them at any time. Usually, bubak only choose to gain abilities
if those abilities will help them fight threats to them, or if
the person has an ability that can amp their special abilities.
Of course, any ability they gain also comes with it's equivalent
weaknesses, which is something bubak have to take into account
as well.
- Bubak Shapeshift: Bubak are able to shapeshift, being useful
for different things. For the most part, most bubak use this to
take human-like forms so that they can hide among humans. With
this, they are able to take the forms of humans, or any creature
they desire. They are also able to transform into other
creatures depending on their needs. Some are able to use this to
change their size, such as turning larger or smaller, and some
use this to turn into other creatures to frighten humans or
change into figures that might lure in humans they can feed on.
For those that are based in certain abilities, they are able to
use this to take other forms, such as Scarecrow, who uses this
to turn into people's greatest fears or just take on scary
forms. This includes him being able to change his size, making
himself smaller or larger depending on situations. However,
making himself bigger can be a disadvantage against faster
opponents who might be able to attack more easily.
- Bubak Cart Summoning: The bubak all have carts which they use
to store a supply of souls they haven't consumed yet. These
carts are summonable at any time, in which bubak can put souls
or use these carts to travel. The cart is pulled by black cats,
often being compared to Santa's sleigh pulled by reindeer. A
bubak's cart works similarly, where it is able to fly thanks to
the cats supernatural abilities, and can travel anywhere thanks
to this method. While bubak have other means of getting around
as well, most bubak can use this to travel when they feel like
it. However, most usually just summon their carts when they want
to store new souls they don't want to devour, since they've
developed other methods of getting around. This doesn't do much
other than storage, similar to how death wraiths can all
uniquely store souls.
- Bubak Realm-Walk: This ability is something bubak are able to
use for traveling realms. This also works for general
teleportation, where they are able to get around as they see fit
by using their ability to traverse the realms. Not only does
this let them travel through the world at will, but they are
also able to travel to the afterlives of any pantheon. Of
course, this has a lot of risks, since those that run the
afterlives can easily sense the bubak and may chase out the
bubak if they suddenly show up. Sometimes, bubak do this to go
to afterlives like hell or Tartaros so that they can take a soul
or two before being chased out, in which they usually leave
before anyone can respond and chase them out. For the most part,
bubak mostly use this to travel the world, finding spots to lure
victims to or teleporting around as needed. This ability works
similar to teleportation, and the bubak must know where they
want to go before they teleport.
- Life/Death Energy Manipulation: After bubak were recruited as
reapers, the bubak that were recruited learned life and death
energy manipulation. After they were essentially fired from
their job, they continued to use life and death energies, being
able to manifest these energies and use them to fight opponents.
They are able to use life and death energies just like reapers,
in which they can either use these to attack people, or use life
and death energies for other purposes. Life energies can be used
to do things like attacking opponents, healing people, or using
it counter certain types of creatures of death. Death energy can
be used to do things like attacking living people, rotting away
objects, or be used to empower creatures of death. Some more
advanced users of this can even use life and death energies to
learn necromancy. These energies are counterable by their
opposites (life by death and vice versa), and can be countered
by other energies, with holy and unholy energies being good for
countering this powers.
- Scarecrow Unique Demon Ability: Crow Summoning/Manipulation:
This is Scarecrow's unique bubak ability, where he is able to
summon and manipulate crows. This can be used for intimidation,
or just because he likes crows. This has a few uses, such as him
being able to perceive what the crows do, or using them to
attack people. He is able to control crows already present, or
summon them using any of his abilities. Among summoning normal
crows, he can summon genjutsu constructs as well as summoning
yellow lantern projectiles when his yellow lantern powers are
active. This ability mostly just creates swarms of crows, with
usually one crow typically sitting on Scarecrow's shoulder. The
crows are able to claw people as well as tear people's skin off
with their beaks, and can do enough damage to kill normal people
if they attack in large enough numbers. This particular power is
fairly simple, and is very similar to some supernaturals who use
animal familiars or similar abilities.
- Fear Manipulation/Fear Reading: Being a fear-based bubak,
Scarecrow has powerful fear manipulation. Scarecrow is a master
of using fear, being able to manipulate people's fears and draw
them to the surface, even being able to read what people's fears
are. This lets Scarecrow look into the emotions not just in
one's mind, but their soul as well. When using this, Scarecrow
is able to draw out fears of almost anyone he fights, with his
ability to use fear being his greatest ability and his main
focus. For the most part, Scarecrow is a very dangerous person,
not just because of what he is, but because he is able to
generate fear in almost any opponent. His ability can even
affect those that use things like disciplined mind or iron will,
since he doesn't just read the mind, but the spirit of those he
draws fear from. Those who are under the effects of fear have a
50% of hesitating if they try to attack due to the fear.
However, while most who fight him are able to be made to fear
something, they can still overcome their fear if they have
enough willpower to do so. Certain types of opponents who use
things like disciplined mind cannot completely be immune to
this, but suppressing their fear using this art can dull the
effects if one uses it to shut down the part of the mind that
processes fear. It is also possible in some advanced negative
emotion users to convert fear into anger which has a chance to
either free them from the fear portion, or they might push too
far and go into a fear-induced rage. Fear also can be used to
the advantage of the person being manipulated, since fear can
sometimes drive someone over the edge if used too much.
- Fear Toxin Gas Generation: This is a specific ability of
Scarecrow, where he is able to generate a special fear toxin
from his body. This toxin increases fear in the brain, helping
to more easily affect people with Scarecrow's fear powers.
Scarecrow is able to generate this from his body, similar to how
a human generates body odor due to how he infused this gas into
his scarecrow-like body. This gas, when breathed in, generates
fear in the body, and helps increase someone's fear. This toxin
is a heavy hallucinagin, generating hallucinations based on what
the person fears, and makes things around them appear frightful.
This gas affects the hypothalamus and the amygdala, causing a
heavy dose fear reaction. Scarecrow can not only generate this
from his body, but he can breathe it in heavy doses, as well as
being able to release bursts of it from within his clothes,
which usually comes out of his sleeves. This toxin has been
known to send weaker willed opponents into shock and some have
even gone crazy under the influence. Though stronger willed
opponents might be able to fight off the effects, and those that
fight the effects and overcome their fear, can lessen the
effects of this gas. The best method to resist this, though, is
just not breathing in the gas at all.
- Fear Aura: Thanks in part to his fear toxin gas, but also due
to the souls that make up his clothes, Scarecrow gives off a
powerful aura of fear. The spirits that make up his clothes are
in a constant state of fear, which Scarecrow converts into a
fearful aura that he can generate in combination with his fear
toxin. This aura helps Scarecrow generate fear energy more
easily, and allows him to generate a natural fear aura to grant
him another way to increase fear in those who encounter him.
This aura isn't as powerful as his fear toxin, but is still
pretty powerful. The fear energy generated from this aura also
work as a passive defense, helping dampen attacks thanks to the
fear energy generated that is converted into his aura. With
Scarecrow's main ability and focus being fear, even his aura
focuses on this aspect. When combined with his fear toxin, he is
able to generate fear extremely easily. When facing off against
Scarecrow, fear and hesitation is something almost all of his
opponents have to overcome if they hope to beat him.
- Fear Mimickry/Bubak Voice Mimickry: Another of a bubak's
abilities is their abilities to mimick voices. Most stories of
them have them luring victims with the sound of a crying infant,
but they can actually sound like whoever they want. Most use the
crying infant as a way to get attention, since people are more
likely to help an infant in possible danger rather than an
adult. Though most bubak can use any voice that they think will
lure victims. However, when it comes to Scarecrow, he uses this
ability to use voices that will lure them, then uses their fear
against them, going as far as to shapeshift into someone's fears
and mimicking the voice of particular fears involving people in
the victim's life. Scarecrow can take the form of anyone's
fears, with him being able to shapeshift and mimick other
creatures depending on the fears. Usually if that fear is a
person they fear or someone they lost that haunts them,
Scarecrow will shapeshift into that person to torture his
victims. Scarecrow's ability to mimick voices and shapeshift
into fears is very useful for his fear power, since he can
better use his bubak abilities with his specific set-up of
skills.
- Fear Manifestion Ultimate Genjutsu: Scarecrow is able to
manifest people's fears, a power he gained from his dream demon
power granted to him by Sosuke Aizen. Scarecrow is able to
manifest people's fears using the ultimate genjutsu technique,
which allows Scarecrow to create solid illusions out of people's
fears he finds. This allows Scarecrow to fight with enhanced
solid illusions that are designed to play on his opponent's
fears. As one might guess, this power was based on Aizen's
studies of Kindron Darkfire's ultimate genjutsu (The Tartaros
version) and works much the same way. The illusions can be
anything Scarecrow wants, as he usually manifests anything that
will play on fears of opponents, and usually gets creative, such
as making giant spiders to fight someone who is afraid of
spiders. As this power works the same way as Kindron Darkfire's
and Father Hei's ultimate genjutsu, the illusions get weaker the
more there are, or the bigger they are made. Usually, this
genjutsu is based on Scarecrow's power, so simply overcoming the
fear used won't overcome this, as the illusions have to be
destroyed. The good news is that these illusions can also be
killed without overcoming the fear of the illusion if the person
has a strong enough will.
- Fearlessness Nullification: Those with no fear usually
wouldn't have to worry about Scarecrow's powers of fear, but,
because Scarecrow is a master of fear, he is able to generate
fears of even those with powers that might include not having
any fears due to him being able to generate new fears in people.
Usually, he will generate new fears by doing anything he can,
such as threatening loved ones or using his fear toxin to try
and increase people's fear of something specific. As such,
fearlessness can actually be a disadvantage when fighting
Scarecrow, since those with fearlessness powers or enhancements
usually aren't used to feeling fear. Usually, if Scarecrow can
generate fear in those with fearlessness abilities, it hits them
harder than normal opponents. Of course, this means that those
that are used to feeling fearful and overcoming fear are much
more able to overcome Scarecrow's fear manipulation than other
opponents. For the most part, the less fear one feels typically
usually is hit harder by Scarecrow's fear manipulation and those
with more fear typically are more easily able to overcome it.
- Feed on Essence Through Fear: With his ability of using fear,
Scarecrow is able to feed on people's fear, using it to
replenish his power or get stronger. Thanks to this ability, he
is able to feed on people's essence through fear. This allows
him to gain sustenance on feeding on people's essences, so he
doesn't always have to devour souls, or if he is at full
strength, he can grow stronger through feeding on people's
essences through fear. This typically doesn't kill an opponent,
as feeding on their essence really just weakens them since they
can be brought to levels of little essences without killing. For
Scarecrow, it is actually more beneficial to leave his victims
alive, since it means he can feed on their fears over and over
again rather than just feeding on their fears once and then
killing them. As such, Scarecrow typically doesn't kill the
people he is able to feed on fear from, since he likes to keep
sources of fear to replenish his power. This also works with his
yellow lantern power, since it also feeds on fear, making this
extremely useful for also powering up his ring. For the most
part, only fear can be used in this, so Scarecrow cannot feed on
things like anger or hatred, despite being similar in nature,
and those that overcome their fear will be able to cut off
Scarecrow's food supply to their essence.
Yellow Lantern/Sinestro Corps Abilities:
"In blackest day, in brightest night,
Beware your fears made into light.
Let those who try to stop what's right.
Burn like my power, Sinestro's might!"
~ Sinestro Corps Oath
- Yellow Lantern/Sinestro Corps Power Ring/Battery: The yellow
lantern power rings are similar in nature to the green lantern
rings, with exception that the yellow rings are powered by fear.
Those with these rings are able to use the rings to generate the
power of fear that they can use to fight with enemies, and be
used to do things like traveling through space, creating
barriers and constructs, or be able to instill fear and absorb
fear from people. This is the main weapon of the Sinestro Corps,
a lantern core that uses fear to fight their enemies and is a
general enemy of the Green Lantern Corps. The Sinestro Corps
aren't really true villains, but more, they are more extreme
heroes who attempt to use fear to intimidate people and want to
rule the universe through fear. The Sinestro Corps all wield
these rings and can use them. In addition to a ring, all members
of the Sinestro Corps also get power batteries, which connect to
the main power battery that acts as a way to recharge their
rings. These power batteries are necessary, since the power of a
ring doesn't last forever. The rings can be recharged by either
absorbing fear, or absorbing certain types of energy that can
act as a temporary power source, such as electricity. However,
when using other energies as power sources, the power of the
ring dimishes until it's proper power is recharged.
- Yellow Lantern Fear Energy: This is the energy that is
generated by the yellow power rings, in which they manifest fear
into physical yellow light energy they can use to fight
opponents. This energy is quite strong, and able to counter
other types of energy. It's main use is attacking opponents and
being used for a variety of options in battles. The energy is
also quite versatile, in which it is able to do things like
appearing to change people's clothes, or it can be used to even
travel through space. These rings are generated fear energy, and
can absorb fear from others in order to power up the ring. The
rings are also able to be powered up in short bursts of power by
using the oath of the Sinestro Corps, which temporarily boosts
the power of the ring. This energy is the power source of the
ring, and when used, it acts similar to other types of energy as
it is able to damage people just like energies like mana, chi
and spirit energy. When the power ring is being used, typically
the Sinestro Corp member will have a specific outfit on that
will show Sinestro's symbol, generated by the energy changing
their clothes temporarily. However, the rings only work as long
as there is energy in the rings, and the rings must be recharged
every 24 hours or they will run out of power, even if the ring
hasn't been used.
- Yellow Lantern Instilling/Absorping Fear: Of course, with a
power based in fear, instilling fear and absorbing it is very
necessary for keeping the power going. Thanks to the ring's
power, it is able to grow and replenish energy on absorbing
fear, but the energy also increases the level of fear in
someone if they are hit with the energy. Those picked for the
Sinestro Corps are chosen for their ability to inflict fear in
others, and must be able to frighten others, since that is the
main power the ring runs on. In the case of yellow lanterns,
they cannot beat opponents if their ability to induce fear in
others is not good enough. As more fear is generated, the fear
energy is absorbed and converted into power by the ring, which
focuses it into yellow lantern energy. The ring also generates
fear if it hits an opponent, being able to raise someone's fear
level if they are in contact with this energy. Though this
doesn't really read the fears of someone, as it is designed to
increase fear passively, it is still a dangerous aspect of
fighting the Sinestro Corps. Of course, one can always overcome
fear through willpower, which is the main method of overcoming
fear generated by the ring, similar to other fear powers being
counterable by strong enough willpower. This is why that,
typically, green lanterns are a natural counter to yellow
lanterns as the two were designed specifically as counters to
each other.
- Yellow Lantern Energy Amplification: When using the yellow
lantern rings, those with these rings gain enhanced physical and
supernatural stats. Just like most energy users, yellow lanterns
also gain a passive boost to their stats when using their yellow
ring. As long as the ring has power, the stat boost is always
there, with the rings being able to generate more power for
physical amplification in short bursts through using the
corresponding lantern oath, in this case, the Sinestro Corps
Oath. This amp is fairly simple and doesn't have any real hidden
aspects to it, and is used by all lanterns who are powered up by
their rings. And as the ring grows in power by absorbing it's
corresponding emotion, the ring is able to amp the user more as
the ring grows stronger, which is another reason that those who
use lantern rings must be able to generate enough of the
corresponding emotion. This amp works as long as the ring has
power, and if the ring runs out of power, the amp no longer
operates.
- Yellow Lantern Energy Energy Attacks/Constructs: This is the
main power that people think of when people think of the lantern
powers, where each ring is able to create energy attacks and
constructs based on the energy used. These constructs are
limited only to the imagination of the person using the ring, as
they are able to generate almost anything. For the most part,
they can generate objects, create constructs of creatures, or
create traps out of their ring's energy. This is a very
versatile power, requiring creative thinking. Most lanterns are
able to do things like generating energy spears or bullet type
attacks, but they can also do things like summoning turrets that
fire energy bullets, creating animals that can attack, or even
creating weapons out of the energy. For the most part, this
energy is very versatile, and able to do a lot in terms of what
it can change into. However, everything generated is generated
by the lantern energy, and no matter what is generated, will
always be lantern energy. The lantern energy doesn't generate
solid matter, but just energy constructs. This means that the
constructs can be destroyed like any other energy construct, and
can be countered with most other types of energy.
- Unique Ability: Yellow Lantern Death Scythe: This construct is
Scarecrow's own unique construct, which he uses to create a
death scythe out of his yellow lantern power. This works like a
typical death scythe except for the fact that it is an energy
construct. Scarecrow's yellow lantern scythe is a bit longer and
more of a typical scythe than his normal one, which is shorter
and with a chain. This scythe can attack others just like his
other death scythe, except for the fact that he can manipulation
the scythe to fire blasts/waves of fear energy, and can
manipulate his scythe's movement even when it's not connected to
him. When used, this scythe can even change shape, such as
extending the blade, twisting the blade, or even launching the
blade at someone. This still works similarly to a yellow lantern
construct, except that it is able to kill anything by striking
the heart or brain of someone, even if that person is a deity.
However, only the scythe itself and it's direct attacks while
manifested have the ability to do this, as his normal yellow
lantern powers do not have the death scythe enhancement.
- Yellow Lantern Energy Defense/Barriers: All lanterns' energies
are able to also create barriers around people, usually in two
main forms. The first is similar to aura defense, where the
energy surrounds the person, acting like a natural barrier when
active. As long as a lantern ring is active, they have this
natural barrier around them in which helps protect them from
attacks. This helps them defend against attacks, where they are
able to gain increased defense. However, stronger attacks can
still break through this, with stronger attacks being able to
more easily damage opponents. The other part of this ability
allows a lantern to create barriers to protect them from
attacks, or energy walls to help defend them. This depends on
the lantern and how they want to shape the barrier or wall, but
many usually just create spherical barriers, or just basic
walls, though creative enough users can create their own walls
and barriers depending on how creative they are and the forms
they want it to take. For the most part, like constructs, it
just takes some imagination for the form they want. Of course,
the barriers and energy walls can be broken by stronger energies
and stronger attacks, just like any energy wall or barrier.
- Yellow Lantern Flight/Interplanetary Travel: All those who use
lantern rings are able to fly when using lantern power, and the
barriers are able to carry others around similar to other flying
creatures. Even if the creature has no wings, they are able to
fly with this method, similar to how ki users fly. This flight
can be used to even travel through hazardous places as long as
the lantern has energy defense, with them being able to use this
to travel in places like underwater or even in through space.
This brings up another power that lanterns have, which is to
travel through space at high speeds. Most lanterns are able to
travel on a galactic scale very quickly, since the lanterns are
set up based on sectors of the universe. For those like the
Green Lanterns and Sinestro Corps, they usually assign
individual people to each sector, or more depending on the
threats present. When needed, lanterns can report to almost any
planet in a matter of hours to weeks depending on how far the
planet is and how fast their ring is able to go. This travel
isn't really usable on earth, due to the speeds they have to
travel and how traveling on earth is not traveling in a straight
line.
- Yellow Lantern Intangibility: Some lantern powers allow for
temporarily going intangilble. In this case, the yellow lanterns
are able to do this, where they are able to temporarily phase
out of time and space for a short time, usually to avoid
attacks. Masters of the yellow rings are able to use this
intangibility to phase through most objects depending on the
density of the molecules of the object. This particular ability
is only usuable in short bursts, and can be overcome with
dimension cutter attacks or attacks designed to damage
intangible opponents. Some are even able to temporarily shift
over to different time periods and different universes, though
this is difficult and takes a lot of power to do, and it is not
guaranteed the user will bea ble to return at all. If a user
ends up in a solid object and this power runs out, they might
end up stuck or worse depending on where they are. Those who use
this typically have to concentrate to do so, since this power
can be very dangerous to the user if not used properly.
- Yellow Lantern Shapeshift/Invisibility: The yellow lantern
rings are able to refract light, creating illusions and using
the ring to allow yellow lanterns to take other forms. For the
most part, the best thing about this power is that it allows one
to turn invisible, using refracted light to hide the user.
However, yellow lanterns are not only able to use illusions to
appear as someone else, but they are also able to take someone's
form, voice and presence to make themselves feel like someone
else. This is good for disguises or blending into a crowd.
Sinestro once used this to imitate John Stuart, a green lantern,
and go on a crime spree to try and frame him. This power is
strong enough that even other lanterns can't always tell the
difference, unless they have a strong connection to their ring
and an ability to sense other active lantern powers. However,
this can be seen through by people with keen senses and those
with strong enough senses to tell that they are using energy to
take another shape. It's also possible that scent can give them
away, as rings can't always replicate scent.
- Yellow Lantern Healing and Cellular Regeneration: One thing
people don't know about lantern rings is that they can use
healing and cellular regeneration. This can be used on hosts or
on others, with it being able to be used on anyone as long as
the user of the ring understands how to do it. This particular
ability doesn't heal like healing magic or just instantly fix
people up, so this ability takes concentration and is a bit more
difficult to use and requires the user to know what they are
doing when healing people. This only requires the user to know
how to rebond cells together and regenerate cells, which the
ring can adapt to almost any race of living beings. This means
that this ability can be used on any kind of being, regardless
of their physiology. For the most part, this only works on
living matter, though the cellular regeneration part of this
ability would work on objects as well if used properly. For the
most part, the rings are designed for energy defense rather than
regeneration, so this power is not the main focus of the ring's
defensive abilities.
- Yellow Lantern Detection, Beacon And Translator: Most people
don't know that the lantern rings are actually able to work like
computers in some aspects, with one of their abilities being
able to interact with people and the environment. One of the
things a lantern ring can do is scan something in almost any
kind of scan the user can imagine, and can even project results
as needed. This scan can scan almost any being, and using data
on the species scanned, can tell things like how strong their
vitals are, or if anything is wrong with them. In addition, when
speaking to other people who speak other languages, the rings
also have a universal translator which can translate any
language and make words spoken by the user be heard by someone
else in whatever language they speak. As an example, if a
lantern spoke English, and wanted to talk to someone who speaks
Russian, they would just speak normally and while the words are
English, the other person would hear the equivalent in Russian.
The last thing this can do is it's detection abilities. The
rings are able to detect abnormalities, or signals, even
broadcasting signals. This is useful not only for reading
signals, but if a lantern is in trouble, they can call their
respective core using a beacon to call them. Most of these
abilities have no real use in battle other than the last
allowing one to call for help.
- Yellow Lantern Area Monitor/Environmental Playback: Another
ability of the lantern rings that many don't know about is their
ability to connect to the system that controls the main core
battery of their respective core that can play back events from
areas by recording events in the change in mass in an area. So
this could essentially allow someone with a ring to watch an
event as needed depending on if the event was recorded. This is
useful when a lantern needs to investigate events for any
reason, as they can essentially play back an event as far back
as a month (usually). Depending on the area, usually this is
only done in areas where lanterns are present or there is life,
like Earth being one of the only planets in our solar system
being recorded due to the presence of life on the planet. For
the most part, most events are recorded unless the user is
familiar with lantern rings ability to generate this playback
and can block the recording process. Also, since this records
events on an almost universal scale and tracks most life, events
may be recorded over if too much happens in a given time due to
it being difficul to always keep recordings of such a scale.
- Yellow Lantern Mind Protection: Since the mind is the most
important aspect of the lantern power, no matter what lantern
color used, the rings always attempt to protect their mind using
their emotional energy. Depending on the lantern color used, the
lantern ring will protect the mind, if possible, from anything
that might try to alter the mind. This protecting makes them
immune to psychic abilities that affect the mind, and are not
able to enter the mind of lanterns with this ability. This power
adds the same protection as certain other similar skills and
allows a lantern to control their minds and control their
emotions. Typically, most lanterns have to keep whatever lantern
color they have in their head, like green lanterns being based
in willpower, or red lanterns being based in anger. Depending on
the lantern, some are able to do this differently, but the end
result is still the same in that this essentially makes sure
lanterns aren't manipulated by others. There are a few
exceptions though, such as using a poison or some kind of
external agent to affect the mind such as Scarecrow's fear toxin
to increase fear.
- Yellow Lantern Immunity to Power Negation/Regeneration
Negation: One thing to note about the lantern rings is their
immunity to powers like power negation or regeneration negation.
Both of these abilities come from the powers coming from a ring,
and being slightly alien tech-based. As such, these rings cannot
have their abilities negated, only countered. For power
negation, this includes not just power negation abilities, but
also metals like stilled silver don't work to negate these
ring's abilities. This also applies to regeneration negation, in
that the healing and cellular regeneration cannot be negated by
regeneration negation powers or by metals like varanium or
carbonadium. Of course, this doesn't mean that the lantern rings
can't be countered, since they are counterable. For the most
part, this only means that negating the ring's abilities is not
typically possible. The only way to negate a ring's power
without the major weakness of running out of energy is that the
person fighting the lantern must get them to lose whatever
emotion they use to power their rings, such as fear making
someone lose willpower being effective against a green lantern.
This is the only known way to negate the rings power if the user
doesn't have the emotion to control.
Dream Demon Abilities/Dream Manipulation:
"I've had this dream before... It's a real nightmare!"
~ Scarecrow when showing up in someone's dream.
- Dream Demon Ability Enhancement: During an experiment,
Scarecrow was granted dream demon abilities by Sosuke Aizen.
This was an attempt to give a living person dream demon
abilities since a creature like a bubak is able to travel
between realms more easily. As such, Scarecrow became one of the
first successful subjects he granted these abilities to since
his physiology adapted well to being a dream demon. This allowed
Scarecrow to gain a special skillset and gain specific dream
demon abilities, as well as move back and forth from the real
world to the dream realm easily. This also gave him even more
aspects to use his bubak abilities to his advantage,
specifically his fear manipulation. Due to the dream demon's
ability to draw on people's dreams, Scarecrow was able to adapt
his fear abilities whenever he's in the dream realm using his
dream demon abilities. And unlike typical dream demons,
Scarecrow does not need a human host to use these abilities
since he can go back and forth between the real world and the
dream world since he has a human body and a dream-like body he
can use thanks to the dream demon enhancement.
- Travel to the Dream Realm/Dream Demon World: With his dream
demon abilities, Scarecrow is able to go back and forth between
the dream world and the real world as he desires. He is able to
travel between both worlds and can go from the real world to the
dream world to enter people's dreams. Using this, he is able to
use his abilities to travel and go back and forth at any time.
This has a few uses besides working in a dream demon world, such
as Scarecrow being able to enter other dream demon's worlds.
However, the biggest use for this is going into the world of
people's minds through the dream realm, where he uses his power
to attack their mind. When in the dream world, it is not the
body that makes someone strong, but their heart. As such,
fighting in a dream demon world works different than fighting in
the real world. The biggest thing to note is that people can be
stressed and weakened, but a mind cannot be completely
destroyed/killed in the dream world as even a white void is
still a world of the mind. And unlike what one might expect,
manipulating the mind's world doesn't actually affect the
person's mind, with it mostly only just putting some stress on
the mind specifically if the person is in the mind fighting the
dream demon.
- Dream Demon World Construct: One of the abilities of dream
demons is their ability to pull people into dream states through
certain methods outside of just sleeping. The main two methods
are day dreams and deja vu, which work on the same rules as the
dream world. However, dream demons enhanced by Aizen and his
research are also able to create constructs of their worlds, and
manipulate the world around them using a genjutsu power similar
to Kindron Darkfire's (the Tartaros version) solid genjustu
abilities combined with the dream demon reality change they use
in dreams, allowing them to alter the reality around them to a
degree, though usually this just results in those affected by
the dream demon constructs being pulled into the constructs and
disappearing from view of others around them. This lets dream
demons manifest themselves and their world in the real world,
creating constructs which can be used to fight in the real
world. In this, dream demons can typically fight using this
power as though they were in the dream world, but in the rules
of the real world. However, if they do run out of power, the
dream world dissolves and goes back to the real world before the
construct was created.
- Demon Energy and Demonic Aura Manipulation: Most dream demons
are familiar with demonic energy, with demonic energy being the
basis of a majority of demonic power. Demonic energy is fairly
basic for most demons and dream demons enhanced by Aizen, being
an unholy energy that can be used to attack opponents or be used
with certain powers in order to create new variations of
abilities. This energy is pretty basic, and the opposite of
normal angelic/holy energy. And at the top of the more powerful
energies demons can wield, higher level demons can use demon
aura, a higher level demon power where demons fuse demonic
energy with their unholy aura to create a powerful demonic
energy originally designed to counter archangels and celestial
force. Both energies are unholy and demonic in nature, being
able to be used similarly to attack opponents or combine with
other techniques. There is also an amplification effect demonic
energy can be used to amp those of unholy nature. As many know,
normal demonic energy doesn't do as much damage as demon aura,
but costs less power to use while demon aura does more damage
but costs more power. And these energies can of course be
countered by their holy counterparts.
- Dream World Elemental Manipulation: When using his dream demon
abilities, dream demons are able to manipulate the elements
around them, with them being able to do things like manipulating
temperature to freeze or burn an area, use the earth to attack
people, or even using wind to attack people. Depending on the
dream demon, most have unique ways of doing this, and can use
this in a variety of ways. For the most part, they are able to
manipulate elements around them as part of their dream world
manipulation and can use almost any element to try and attack
people. However this only works in the dream world and in the
construct world manipulations, and cannot actually control real
elements. Just like most things in the dream world, things work
different in the real world vs the dream world, so dream demons
cannot manipulate true elements, only the constructs of elements
created by the mind or dream world. Each of these manipulations,
however, can still be countered or dodged just like one might
expect.
- Scarecrow Dream Demon Unique Ability: Dream Fear: Even though
Scarecrow cannot infect someone with his fear toxin normally in
the real world while he's in the dream world, he is able to do
something similar in the dream world by emitting a special form
of fear energy from his body akin to his fear toxin which
naturally influences the mind towards fear. Not only does
Scarecrow have the ability to do this, but this more easily
helps him inspire fear in others. When used, this works similar
to his fear toxin, but creates a fear aura instead of a
breathable toxin. Of course, while it works the same as the fear
toxin, and overrides typical mental defenses, strong enough will
power can still overcome the fear generated by this fear aura,
as someone with strong enough will can still fight the effects
of the fear. The best way to overcome this is to overcome one's
fears which are increased by the fear aura, which can allow the
opponent to overcome the fear generated, or abilities that
convert fear into anger, which some stronger people can do more
easily than others. For the most part, opponents can still fight
while in this state of fear, but unless they have a way of
oercoming it, they are prone to hesitation and being unable to
attack if they are affected hard enough by the fear.
- Scarecrow Dream Demon Unique Ability: Fear Regeneration: When
Scarecrow is in someone's dreams, he not only has all of his
bubak and yellow lantern abilities, but he gains a special
ability only usuable in the dream world as well thanks to his
dream demon enhancement. This ability lets him use fear energy
to regenerate his dream demon body, where he is able to keep
coming back as long as he has fear energy to use. This is
particularly useful with his yellow lantern abilities, since he
can draw on the ring if he has no other fear energy. However,
this makes killing him in the dream world difficult, especially
with him being able to use his fear toxin. When using this, if
he is able to make the opponent afraid, it will make sure he is
able to keep coming back as long as he can draw on that fear
energy which can regenerate him as many times as needed unless
the opponent breaks the dream world and manages to make it back
into the real world. For the most part, this only works in the
dream world or in a dream construct, as it's tied to his dream
demon abilities and not his mortal body. As such, killing him in
dreams is very difficult, since his ring can also be used to
regenerate him in dreams since it runs on fear energy. However,
without this fear energy or if he runs out of fear energy to
draw, he could be killed in the dream world.
- Dream Demon Strength of the Heart: Most dream demons know that
fighting in the dream world is not about the strength of the
body, but strength of the heart and mind. For dream demons, this
is their life, with most of them not having physical bodies to
rely on strength of the body. Usually in most dream demon
worlds, most people drawn into them have trouble realizing that
the world works differently, and this typically works to the
advantage of the dream demon. Depending on the dream demon, some
can even feed on emotions generated by the dream world's affect
on the mind, which works great for dream demons that can feed on
things like fear and anger. For the most part, the stronger the
heart of the dream demon, the more powerful they are in the
dream world and in the real world. Most dream demons rely on
their human hosts for that power gain, but some dream demons are
able to survive without hosts, specifically if they are able to
manifest in the real world. However, the downside to this is
that states of uncertainty, fear and anger can weaken the mind
and will of the dream demon if they succumb to these emotions.
- Dream Demon Soul Eater: Dream demons can devour the souls of
other supernaturals to gain their powers and become stronger if
they take the essence of someone with power. This means that
some dream demons can have more than one power if they constant
devour the souls of other supernaturals. Dream demons can grow
stronger in this way, and some can even devour other dream
demons. This power gain is common among dream demons, and allows
them to devour souls if they defeat a mortal or supernatural in
the dream world. This doesn't kill an opponent, as they just
lose their soul, which makes them lose any emotional
capabilities they have. For the most part, while dream demons
can devour souls, this can be a bit dangerous, as some souls can
grant new powers, but also new weaknesses, since gaining
strengths means also gaining the equivalent weaknesses. For the
most part, this works the same as typical soul eaters. However,
usually enough willpower from a mortal or supernatural fighting
in a dream world can pull them out of it before this happens to
a degree. If the soul is taken, it is possible to get back, if
the dream demon is defeated or the dream demon gives the soul
back, since they are able to pull devoured souls out of them.
This is a bit of a weakness for them, since this means they can
lose devoured souls in fights if they lose, or they might lose
some power if they lose certain souls.
- Dream Demon Possession: If a dream demon defeats and kills
someone in the dream world, they don't kill the opponent, but
rather, a dream demon can then possess the person who's dream
world they are in. This allows dream demons to possess people
similar to how demons and angels possess people, with them being
able to forcibly control people. Since the person is typically
suppressed in the consciousness after "death" but aren't dead,
they are not usually aware of what goes on when the dream demon
is in control, with dream demons just keeping the person
suppressed in the subconscious rather than risking the person
trying to fight the control. As such, dream demons are able to
possess anyone they defeat, including those that have certain
protections to control like Disciplined Mind or any type of
meditational control over their mind. However, this only works
if the person is killed in the dream world, and the dream demon
cannot kill the person since the death of the body will
typically kill them too since they are tied to the mind while
doing this.
- Dream World Power/Regeneration Negation Changes: Since the
dream world works very differently from the real world, power
negation abilities and regeneration negation abilities don't
work. Because dreams work differently, powers can't be negated
in dream states, nor can regeneration, specifically that of
dream demons. The only way to negate abilities in the dream
world is through different emotions affects on the mind, such as
someone being fearful won't be able to use their abilities as
effectively. Of course, this works to both the dream demon and
opponent's advantage if they understand how it works, since this
goes back to the strength of the heart being the thing that
decides someone's strength. This means that not only do power
and regeneration abilities not work in the dream world, but
metals like varanium and stilled silver still work the same in
dreams, which means that they can still be used against
opponents or dream demons. As stated earlier, the biggest way to
negate someone's abilities in the dream world is through
different emotions effects.
Passive and Combat Abilities:
Araragi: Are you really filled with straw?
Scarecrow: No... Something much worse.
Araragi: Better not be glitter...
~ Scarecrow and Araragi discussing a bubak body's composition
- Combat Style: Crane-Style Kung-Fu "Violent Dancing": Most
don't realize it, but Scarecrow is a great hand to hand and
weapon fighter, being a master of his own style of martial arts.
His style is a modification of the crane style of Kung Fu, where
the style is based around using arm length and leg length to the
advantage of the user. Scarecrow created his own style, which
appears almost like a dance where he uses a special style that
allows him to fight opponents using unpredictability and harsh
moves that he can use by using the momentum of his movement.
This style uses long arm and long leg length to hit harder and
put more momentum into attacks. This also applies to weapon
styles, where Scarecrow's style can also be used when using his
weapons as well. For the most part, this style tends to be
pretty unpredictable, and can easily change form when Scarecrow
wants to change up the style. This style tends to be best used
at medium range, but can be used at close range as well. And due
to Scarecrow having hunted down and fought plenty of
supernaturals, he's also worked supernatural hunter fighting
styles into his fighting style as well, designed to be used
against supernaturals to take advantages of weaknesses, such
punching a banshee in the throat to make sure it can't scream.
- Bubak Scarecrow-Like Body: Bubak have strange bodies, being
almost like living scarecrows. It's not known why this is, but
they have similar body structures where they are made of straw.
One of the drawbacks is that this would normally make them to
light to fight effectively, but the bubak bodies are filled with
the power of death and are able to convert the "weight" of death
into actual weight they use to move around like typical mortals
and be able to have the same weight as mortals. This is
effective especially when it comes to things like toxins or
poisons, since their body isn't the same as mortals. When they
are attacked, they don't bleed or die like mortals do. This
makes killing a bubak very difficult, since they don't have
hearts or brains to destroy, and cutting off their head doesn't
always kill them. And the more dangerous thing is their ability
to possess people, something they can do if their bodies are
destroyed since they are actually evil spirit beings. Their
bodies are very strange, with them even being able to make new
body parts like repairing a typical scarecrow. Of course, this
body has slight downsides, like not being able to use certain
abilities humans can, where bubak aren't really able to push
their bodies beyond their limit like humans due to not having a
powerful enough body to push beyond limits. This means that
battles don't make bubak stronger aside from teaching them how
to combat certain fighting styles, but instead, training their
energies makes them stronger.
- Plant-Herb Fusion: Since a bubak is mostly stuffed with straw
or other stuff that a scarecrow might be stuffed with, bubaks
are able to use this to their advantage to put certain plants
and herbs in their bodies to affect people if the herb comes
into contact with someone. By using herbs in their bodies and
combining it with the straw, which can have certain effects.
Usually, the most advantageous is using a toxin that will make
them dangerous to touch, such as causing allergic reactions on
touch, or using a special mix of toxins to create a mix of a
toxin to poison people who are close to them. This is usually
something the bubak do in preparation for a fight, where they
usually fill themselves with a toxin they want to emit or use an
allergin to make it harder for people to stay in close proximity
to them. This only works while in their bubak form, and doesn't
translate over to their human form. For the most part, this part
of their physiology makes them unique, but also can be dangerous
to them if they are not careful, as certain toxins interacting
can be dangerous, such as some that cause acidic reactions,
which would not be any good for bubak. For the most part,
Scarecrow just uses simple allergins and doesn't bother with
making overcomplicated formulas that might backfire on him.
- Infinite Stamina: Since the bubak don't have blood or "food"
to drive them, the bubak have infinite stamina, meaning that
they never get tired or wear their bodies out. Similar to
reapers, bubak are naturally created spirits and since they
don't have typical bodies, they are pretty much immune to the
usual troubles of only having a limited amount of stamina. While
a bubak can be worn down by wearing down their supply of energy,
most bubak can keep fighting for as long as they have to without
any issues. Due to this, fighting a bubak is not about
outlasting them, but finding a way to beat them or destroy their
bodies is really the only way to stop them, and most of the time
they just teleport off to find a new body to inhabit and use to
fight. For the most part, bubak can fight as long as they have
to, and makes fighting them extremely difficult in general.
- Bubak Energy Training: Similar to how spirit energy users
train their spirit energy, the bubak train very similarly.
Instead of pushing their bodies, they have to push their
energies to their limit and train their body to generate more
energy. As they do, their ability to use energy grows, and if
they produce more death energy, it can change their appearance,
making them more dangerous in a fight where the bubak can assign
the changes in their appearance based on what they want, such as
a more muscle like appearance, or if they just want to make a
stronger outer shell. This training requires bubak to train
their energy to it's limit, which can be very hard, and has the
same risk as a spirit energy user, where a bubak can wear their
energy out too much and possibly damage their power temporarily
or permanently depending on the damage. This particular training
usually requires careful thought and planning, with the bubak
having to be careful to push their energy past it's limits, but
not to the point that it damages their power.
- Immunity to Poison/Buff and Debuff Powers: For the most part,
buff and debuff powers that would affect a normal person have no
affect on a bubak. And with them being spiritual in nature, it
is very difficult to affect them with poison due to their bodies
usually being straw or scarecrow-like in nature. For the most
part, most bubak are also immune to psychic abilities, due to
them not having physical brains, nerves or even muscles to
affect. Most psychic abilities that affect the body are not
usuable on them due to their unique body structures. And this
also applies to poisons, in which the bubak have no way to
process poisons, due to the body's structure. However, the only
exception to this is acidic poison, which can be used to damage
a bubak's body quite effectively since acid is good to eat away
at a scarecrow's straw.
- Immunity to Power Manipulation/Power Negation: Due to the
spiritual nature and their unique body, the bubak's normal
scarecrow-like bodies are immune to power negation abilities.
While they are supernatural in nature, they can't be negated due
to their particular uniqueness. Power negation doesn't really
affect them unless they are in human form, in which they can be
affected by power negation. Power negation not only includes the
effects of power negation supernatural abilities, but also the
effects of metals like stilled silver. And regeneration negation
also applies to abilities like varanium and carbonadium. For the
most part, bubak abilities can only be negated by them being in
human form, or possessing a mortal or supernatural body.
- Resistance to Grim Reapers/Soul Reapers/Death Wraiths
Abilities: As a result of them working as reapers for a time,
and eventually becoming enemies with them, the bubak developed
resistances to death wraith powers, grim reaper powers, and soul
reaper powers. This includes not only their supernatural
abilities and their life/death manipulation abilities, but also
their weapons, like the soul reaper zanpakutos, the death wraith
soul swords, and the grim reaper's death scythes. The bubak are
resistant to all of these, and don't really take extra damage as
an effect. They can still be hurt by these powers and weapons,
but they don't take specific damage like death energy's ability
to rot away objects, or a soul sword's purification abilities.
The bubak usually are best combated by humans and with human
ghost hunting methods, such as iron weapons since bubak haven't
fought humans all that much compared to fighting agents of
death. And being soul eaters, the bubak have definitely made
more enemies of agents of death than humans who don't even know
what they are.
- Genius Level IQ: Scarecrow is a bubak who has adapted quite
well to current society, and is extremely smart compared to the
average person or supernatural. Scarecrow is not only a great
tactician, but an incredible learner, having learned a lot in
his time hiding among humans. As a human doctor of criminal
psychology, Dr. Jonathon Crane is one of the foremost experts in
the field. Not to mention that he also speaks many different
languages as well that he's learned over the years. On top of
that, he is also a biological and chemist expert, being an
expert in how the body works, and how chemicals affect the body.
Scarecrow is a very smart person, and through his knowledge in
all of his fields was how he created his fear toxin. For the
most part, Scarecrow is a very dangerous person, not just for
his ability to inspire fear, but for his intelligence and
ability to predict how people will react. When fighting
opponents, he even has no problem telling them if they are
suffering from sociological disorders. He is one of the
opponents who doesn't just analyze fighting styles, but he
analyzes how people think and learns to predict people by how
they act rather than how they fight. And with his understanding
of how the mind works and emotions effects on the mind, this
makes Scarecrow dangerous to fight if he understands how his
opponent thinks.
- Enhanced Senses: Like vampires and other supernaturals, bubak
gain enhanced senses. For the most part, their senses are all
enhanced with certain senses being enhanced more than others. No
one really knows how a bubak has "senses" due to their bodies
being straw, but no one questions it. They can see far more,
being able to see even in pitch black thanks to their enhanced
vision, making them an ultimate night-time predator. In
addition, they also gain other enhanced senses like enhanced
hearing and smell as well. For the most part, each bubak has
their own enhanced senses, with some having one or two senses
enhanced more than others. However, certain enhanced senses can
be dangerous, such as enhanced sight being vulnerable to extreme
light, or extreme smell being vulnerable to strong smells.
- Supernatural Sixth Sense: Much like other supernaturals, bubak
can sense the presence of other beings, and sensing who and what
they are. This can sense not only one's presence, but their
levels of energy and how tough they are, allowing the user to
gauge how they stand against them, as well as often being able
to tell what they are by their presence if the user recognizes
what kind of presence it is. However, this can be deceived by
skilled opponents, sometimes not appearing correctly if the user
can't sense the opponent's full power or use powers that fool
this sense. There are also skills that hide one's presence so
those with this sense can't sense them, or some opponents can
suppress their presence so they're not fully able to be sensed.
- Attach Item to Self: Like most supernaturals, the bubak are
able to attach items to themselves, with this power being a
pretty basic supernatural power that allows a special connection
between a supernatural and items they want to make sure cannot
be stolen from them. This allows them to connect any item to
them, usually the main thing being their weapons. When used, the
users are able to not only know where their weapon is at all
times, but can call the weapon to them, and use limited weapon
telekinesis to control their weapon from a distance. However,
this is more for recovering weapons stolen, and most
supernaturals have their own ways of handling it, where some can
teleport weapons to them, or some use weapon telekinesis. They
can also summon and desummon their weapons as needed.
- Supernatural Telepathy/Communication: Many supernaturals can
communicate using supernatural telepathy. This lets
supernaturals communicate by projecting their thoughts to
others. When used, this lets supernaturals communicate with
anyone, granted that they know where that person is. For the
most part, supernaturals use this to communicate with people
they know, whether friends, family or otherwise, and allows them
to use this anytime they want. This power can also create
permanent connections to people, in which supernaturals can
permanently connect to someone so they don't need to know where
the person is to communicate with them. However, the one thing
to note with this is that the person recieving the messages can
decline them, or severe ties with people if they so desire,
requiring this to essentially to be severed by either side if
the person doesn't want communicate with the person for whatever
reason.
- Supernatural Sixth Sense: This is a standard supernatural
sixth sense, which allows the user to sense the presence of
others. This can sense not only one's presence, but their levels
of energy and how tough they are, allowing the user to gauge how
they stand against them. However, this can be deceived by
skilled opponents, sometimes not appearing correctly if the user
can't sense the opponent's full power or use powers that fool
this sense. There are also skills that hide one's presence so
those with this sense can't sense them. This ability lets many
supernaturals sense their surroundings, not needing eye sight,
or they may not rely on their sight, relying on this sense.
However, relying on this sense too much can be a problem when
faced with certain types of creatures or powers that can hide
one's presence.
- Immune to Psychic Influence and Emotional Influence: Due to
the bubak's unique body, they are completely immune to psychic
influence in their minds and any attempt to influence their
emotions. Due to this, they don't need things like disciplined
mind to protect their minds since the bubak don't have typical
minds to alter. This has both positive and negative effects,
like people not being able to read a bubak's mind or being able
to use mind alternation on them. Though this does mean that the
bubak cannot influence their own emotions as a result, which
while they don't need to, some that may want to cannot do so.
This is a bit of a disadvantage, and those who use abilities
that affect the mind must alter them to the bubak's spirit
rather than their mind since the bubak's main presence is
spiritual.
- Bubak and Combat Enhanced Physical Stats: Scarecrow, like most
bubak, have increased combat and supernatural stats due to their
nature. Unlike mortals, bubak may seem like they have the same
build, but their build tends to be a bit more unique. Scarecrow
is trained for strength, speed, durability and stamina. With
their infinite stamina, the bubak are extremely dangerous, but
Scarecrow takes it a step further by having incredible speed,
strength and defense due to his combat training and his Sinestro
Corps training. Scarecrow is not one to underestimate, and is
extremely hard to kill. As such, most who fight him should have
a plan before fighting him, due to him being able to overcome
almost any challenge by outlasting opponents if all else fails.
Transformations:
"Afraid of losing?"
- Scarecrow
- Yellow Lantern Form: All lanterns use their power when in
their lantern form, which they change into when they need to use
the power of their power rings. Each lantern has their own
uniform, which has colors corresponding to which lantern corps
they are a part of. This form is an enhanced form which fully
utilizes the lantern powers and allows the powers to be used.
Most lanterns don't use this right away, and focus on fighting
normally as long as they can to save power, but when they want
to fight all out, they activate their rings and go into their
lantern forms. When used, these forms enhance the user's
physical stats, and their supernatural stats. This also allows
them to do things like fly using lantern energy or even travel
through space or underwater. For the most part, this form can be
used as long as the user has the energy to do so, as without
lantern energy, they will turn back to normal. This is why most
lanterns save using their lantern power until they really need
to.
Weaknesses:
"Overcoming fear is sorta my thing."
- Green Lantern Hal Jordan after overcoming Scarecrow's fear
toxin
- For the most part, the biggest weapon of fear is willpower.
This doesn't just apply to the yellow lantern powers being
counterable by green lanterns, but the willpower to overcome
fear is the key to overcoming almost any of Scarecrow's
fear-based abilities. For the most part, the fear toxin is the
most dangerous part of Scarecrow's skillset, since it doesn't
require the user to be afraid, but if one can overcome it, they
can usually overcome almost any fear power that Scarecrow has.
Of course, Scarecrow rarely gives up, and if the user does
overcome one fear, Scarecrow often just tries to use or create
another fear to take it's place. As such, fighting Scarecrow is
more mentally fighting off Scarecrow as much as physically
fighting him off. For the most part, willpower is the biggest
counter to fear that there is available and it is something
almost anyone can use assuming they have a strong enough mind to
do so. Of course, there are other methods of overcoming fear as
well, such as those who can convert fear into anger.
- The bubak are spiritual in nature, which means that iron is a
great weapon to use against them. They cannot use iron, due to
it temporarily dispelling them until they remanifest if they are
attacked in their spirit form. When their bodies are hit with
iron can dispel some of the energy in the body, causing damage
to the power that holds the spirit to the body. With enough
attacks, iron weapons can break a bubak from their bodies. Of
course, in some aspects, some bubak may have resistances to
this, such as Scarecrow having a yellow lantern ring that he
uses to protect himself if someone uses iron on him. This isn't
limited to iron though, as any weapon designed to fight spirits
will work well against bubak. However, it is notable that death
wraith, soul reaper and grim reaper weapons don't do the extra
damage due to the bubak's resistance to the powers of the agents
of death. However, human weapons designed for ghost hunting tend
to work fairly well on bubak since they don't have natural
defenses against them.
- For the most part, bubak bodies do have disadvantages. Since
they are like scarecrows, fire and acid are the two best ways to
kill them. Creative enough users can find other ways, and this
really depends on the creativity. If one wants to find ways to
defeat a bubak, they can always find a scarecrow and find the
best ways to tear it apart. The only real difference is the
death energy which makes the body more solid and gives it the
weight that lets it compete with other mortals and
supernaturals. Fire and acid tend to be great ways to kill them,
but one must be careful, because of the clothes worn by the
bubak, which are made of souls. Usually, things like acid and
fire can be directed at the clothes, but the clothes made of
souls typicially absorb the damage, making the soul clothes a
bit of a defense for bubak. Of course, creative enough opponents
can try to find ways around this. The biggest problem with
fighting a bubak is trying to kill them, which often requires
finding a way to make sure their spirit can't come back. If one
can use a spiritual containment technique to trap the spirit,
they can trap a bubak spirit and prevent it from being able to
go anywhere if they can trap it using techniques like the Mafuba
or Evil Containment Wave.
- Yellow lanterns rings specifically are counterable by two main
ring types, which is the green lantern rings and the blue
lantern rings. The blue lantern rings especially are quite
dangerous to yellow and red rings alike, due to their ability to
negate those rings in their presence. Of course, almost any
lantern corp can fight another, with most of the lanterns being
able to counter each other in some way since they are all based
in emotional energy. The main thing is overcoming their specific
aspects that make them unique, such as the yellow lanterns being
able to manifest one's greatest fears, or a red lanterns ability
to use their blood in combination with their rage. Every lantern
has unique aspects, and knowing these aspects is the best way to
overcome them. Other energy users can also counter these with
their own energy abilities, since, for the most part, energy can
counter energy. The only real danger is that in order to
overcome one energy, one needs a stronger energy to overpower
it.
- All Lantern rings, regardless of color or emotion used, have
to be recharged every 24 hours. All the lantern rings, with
exception of the blue lantern rings (as it's one of their unique
aspects), have to be recharged every 24 hours, even if the rings
haven't been used. Due to the connection maintained, the rings
eventually run out of power unless they are recharged using the
power battery. However, using that power in battle can run the
ring out of power faster, which can lead to the ring running out
of power. If the ring runs out of power, it becomes unusable
until it is recharged.
- If one is careless, the lantern rings and/or the power
batteries can be stolen from the lantern user. This is one of
the biggest problems that any of the lantern corps have. The
ring doesn't have to be out of power, as if someone rips it off
the user's hand, they can essentially steal the ring. While the
ring can be resummoned, this is a bigger problem if the power
battery is stolen, since all power batteries are used to
recharge rings. This is something that all lantern corps have a
problem with, and has led to big problems when certain people
have managed to steal rings to use for their own gain. Those
with abilities to attach items to self or have ways to prevent
their ring from being stolen are not vulnerable to this usually,
but some aspect usually is. The power batteries are most easily
stealable when the lantern is recharging their ring, due to
their guard typically being down.
- Scarecrow's dream demon abilities have the same weaknesses as
most dream demons. The main one is that strong hearts are
required to use dream demon abilities, and the dream demon
powers only get stronger as the heart grows strong. For the most
part, dream demon powers can be weakened through personal
struggle or turmoil, which can cause a dream demon to lose their
power or be weakened. This is the biggest way to beat a dream
demon is to make them doubt themselves or destroy their
confidence in themselves. By weakening the dream demon power
enough, one can usually escape the dream world created by a
dream demon, regardless of how it was created or who created it.
Of course, Scarecrow is just as hard to kill in the dream world
as he is in the real world, so one has to be prepared for
fighting him. Though his body and powers still work the same, so
one familiar with his powers can still counter him. The only
advantage he would have is using his dream demon abilities and
the power of heart dream demons enjoy to overpower most mortals
in dreams.
- In the dream world, there is far more versatility in what
people can do, such as being able to breathe underwater, or
being able to survive in space. Because it's a dream world, the
rules are usually dependent on the dream demon and the dream
world it creates, but for the most part, since it is a
consciousness and not a physical body, those that realize this
can actually adjust. They actually wouldn't need to worry about
things like pressure, breathing or other worldly things.
However, this requires strength of will and manipulating the
dream world. However, most dream worlds have similar rules, and
even in ones filled with water or pressure, it only works as
long as the opponent believes their strength in the dream world
is the same strength they have in the real world. If they
realize they have the power in a dream, they can usually turn
things around.
Personality:
"Am I too scary for you?"
~ Scarecrow when someone commented about his appearance
In his human form, as Dr, Jonathon Crane, Scarecrow tends to
seem just like any other psychologist, even pointing out
psychological disorders or responses as he wants to. His human
disguise is usually pretty respectable, as he hides in plain
sight. When in human form, he really only uses his fear toxin to
affect others, rather than using his bubak power so he doesn't
give up his disguise. For the most part, his human identity
often seems like an entirely different person at times. Though
when he goes into bubak form, he tends to be like what people
expect, where he will often try to be the scariest kind of
monster he can be to someone. His love of causing fear and being
an agent of chaos often shows when he's in his bubak form, as he
doesn't hold back on his attempts to generate fear in people.
Both forms are extremely smart though, with Scarecrow being not
just a tactician, but a good learner, and can keep up with
almost any opponent in battle once he starts analyzing them. The
biggest danger is not just his analysis of fighting styles, but
Scarecrow's analysis of how people think, which makes him
dangerous as he can predict how people react if he understands
how they think.
Bio:
"Phobophobia... The fear of fears. My greatest achievement."
~ Scarecrow
Every pantheon and every religion has their boogeymen and
creatures that scare humans. The bubak is one such creature,
from Czech tales and mythology. This creature is a natural
creature that evolved as a type of spirit/undead creature and
eventually the race evolved into soul eaters. During their
history, Death even tried to recruit them as reapers since they
were creatures of death and were naturally born undead
creatures. However, things didn't go well, as the bubak
recruited ended up eating more souls than they sent to the
afterlife, despite Death only allowing them to devour souls
destined for hell. And once the Bubak started using their
ability to go to the afterlife to steal souls, Death ended up
killing those that went against his rules, and fired the rest
from reaping. The bubak ended up just becoming legend as they
hid in the living world and continued luring people to their
deaths.
Scarecrow is one such bubak, but was born after Death fired the
bubak. Scarecrow was trained by his kind, and eventually set out
to grow in abilities. He eventually took a human form and a
human identity as Dr. Jonathan Crane, and did studies to develop
what would be called the "fear toxin". When combined with his
bubak abilities, he was eventually able to learn to generate
this naturally from his body. In order to more easily get
victims, he became a criminal psychologist, and started using
his job to take souls of those criminals and insane people that
ended up as his patients. During his time as a criminal
psychologist and scientist, he was fairly well known by groups
like Hyperion and Black Sun, who he secretly started working for
as a freelance killer, going after threats to the groups.
At some point, he was recruited by the Order of the Dragon, once
Remilia found out what Scarecrow really was. After Remilia
offered him enhanced power and more subjects to do his research
on, Scarecrow agreed to join the Order. Scarecrow was one of the
survivors of the Order's destruction, and went back to his work
after the Order was scattered. Scarecrow worked as a freelance
killer for multiple groups until finally being recruited by
Crayak. Scarecrow agreed to work for Crayak, as Crayak had
promised Scarecrow new powers and upgraded abilities. However,
Scarecrow only wanted one thing, and that was to take Crayak's
place as the embodiment of the force of evil in the universe.
Now, Scarecrow works for Crayak as a freelance killer, and helps
recruit people for Crayak's purposes. Scarecrow has worked for
almost all of the villain groups in the world, and was even
recruited by the Sinestro Corps, an alien organization opposing
the other lantern corps using yellow lantern power rings and
trying to rule the universe through the power of fear.
Currently, Scarecrow works for multiple organizations when he's
not off fighting for Sinestro Corps, and still works with
multiple groups whenever it suits him. In his spare time, he
works for insane asylums, with his most notable work being in
Arkham Asylum.
