(It's fine. I thought about it and honestly, Itachi could have
just stopped breathing flames so that the flames would reach him
and he could devour them since they were normal flames. I didn't
think about it at the time myself.)
Goten uses his lightning chakra to counter Itachi's fire combat,
and goes to try and get close enough for a close range attack.

((Yeah, not sure why I never thought of it (/_<) ))
Itachi barely manage to dodge the lightning attack, though due
to him training with V, he does know how to fight lightning
users. Taking a step back, he does a quick hand jutsu.
Itachi: Fire Style: Dragon Fireball Jutsu!
Itachi start to spit a large dragon fireball at Goten.

(It's probably just that I'm good at creatively coming up with
strange ways to find solutions to situations. )
Goten does hand signs of his own, using his lightning chakra to
create a blast of lightning. Goten: Lightning Style: Lightning
Bomb Jutsu. He says as he throws the ball of lightning at the
ball of flames. Goten had made the lightning strong enough to
counter the flames, but miscalculated how potent the jutsu would
be and the lightning ball ended up being stronger than he meant
to make it as it would be strong enough to counter the flames
more than he expected to. Since Goten was sort of prepared for
the attack to overpower his lightning ball, he was sort of
surprised to see his attack was strong enough to just counter
the ball of fire.

Itachi shield himself with his sleeve when the impact countered
his dragon fireball. Remaining calm, Itachi tries to advance
toward Goten but try using white flames in combat.

Goten decides to try something a little different. Goten
activates his special Shin'Wan genjutsu, which appears to do
nothing at first as everything still looks the same. The
genjutsu would be barely sensable, though to someone like
Itachi, it's unlikely it would go unnoticed for more than a few
seconds. The genjutsu's wouldn't seem to have an effect, but
would distort Itachi's vision of the area around him, making
things appear longer or shorter than they are without changing
Itachi's perception of the area around him as the genjutsu is
designed to make opponents misjudge things like distance and
depth if they are under the influence of the genjutsu. Goten
moves in to try a physical attack, attempting to trip and throw
Itachi over his shoulder. Goten knew that Itachi would probably
break the genjutsu very quickly, but he wanted to see if he
could catch Itachi off-guard for just a moment to knock him off
his feet. Since he'd never tried this on another Uchiha, Goten
wasn't sure if it would work on Itachi, but Goten was hoping
that if Itachi noticed the genjutsu that the effect of the
distortion of Itachi's vision might throw him off even if it was
just for a second.

Although Itachi isn't affected by the genjustu since that type
of jutsu is his specialty, the sudden change did throw him off
for a few seconds since it caught him off guard along with how
good it was. His few seconds of confusion and pride was enough
for him to not prepare for the attack Goten perform on him until
it was too late.

Goten's attack was a simple throw, which would throw Itachi to
the ground, so it wouldn't really do too much damage other than
whatever the impact with the ground would be. After throwing
Itachi to the ground, Goten jumps back for a moment, giving
Itachi the chance to get up (since Goten wasn't the type of
person to attack someone while they're down). Goten: Holy
crap... I can't believe that worked... He says to himself,
somewhat surprised. Though he didn't say it, he knew that
wouldn't work twice on Itachi, especially if Itachi figured out
how the genjutsu worked.

Goten: Yeah... Thank the Oniwabon for that one. One of my
teachers is a master of optical illusions. He says as Itachi
gets up.
