Goten tries to catch Itachi's attack and strike at him as well,
in which he combined a defensive move with an offensive one,
hoping that it would put him a spot to utilize his next move.
Because his body was stronger, he was also faster than normal,
which did sort of throw off his attack a little bit in that
while stronger, wouldn't be nearly as accurate.

Although he saw the attack coming, he barely got the chance to
dodge. Even with his dragon like durability, the punch was
stronger than he thought. He did manage to collect himself
before trying to attack Goten again.

When Itachi dodges, the unexpected speed and power threw Goten
off a little more as he turns and tries to block, barely getting
up a defense in time to block Itachi's attack as he was trying
to adapt to his stronger strength and speed. Even though Goten
wasn't too naturally skilled when it came to combat, he did have
a natural talent for improvement during fights due to the
training he went through with the Oniwaban group.

Itachi continue to fight Goten but this time use some dragon
style martial arts that he learned from a few friendly dragons
that didn't try to kill him. He has been wanting to try this
martial art skill on someone and he's pretty thrilled to finally
try it out on someone.

Goten was using his Japanese Kenpo style, and tries to counter
Itachi. Though it was a bit inaccurate due to Goten adjusting,
every movement seemed to help him hone his combat just a little
bit more.

Curious, Itachi start using flames in his attacks. The flames
are normal so it shouldn't be too big of a deal for Goten to
counter the flames as the two continue to fight.

Using a special jutsu he developed, Goten breathes flames
similar to Itachi's dragon flames to counter the flames, but
instead of dragon flames, Goten's flames are just normal flames
with no supernatural power other than the flame chakra used to
ignite the flames, so the flames used almost none of his energy
at all. The flames are just enough to counter the other flames,
and not enough to overpower them, since Goten knew Itachi could
just devour his flames if he tried to overpower the flames.

Itachi's flames clashed with Goten's flames. Since the flames
weren't powerful, Itachi didn't think about consuming the flames
and continue to stick to his flame based combat for now.

(I thought the flames were just hitting each other in clash of
flames. Goten was trying to avoid overpowering the flames
specifically to avoid Itachi being able to eat the flames.)
