       The Angel Project
By: Caterina Sforza Date: July 21, 2020, 1:55 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
The slightly chilly New York air swept through the bustling
crowd on East 31st Street. Two of the crowd's inhabitants, an
older gentleman carrying a small parcel and a blonde teenager,
slightly oversized jacket pulled around her thin frame, ducked
into a fading green office building. The two made for the stairs
leading down to the lab majority of the world was oblivious to.
The Institute of Higher Living or just The Institute to some of
       its inhabitants.
Max whips the jacket off inside the stairwell causing a small
bottle to go flying out of the pockets. She catches it much
faster than the average human, eyes darting to Jeb as she tucks
       it back away.
His voice is somewhere between disappointed and annoyed. Jeb:
”Max, please refrain from breaking something just this once.
This is the world at stake here.”
Max: ”Sorry, ” she mumbled, rolling her eyes. ”Wasn’t like I
       intended for that to happen.”
The scientist chose to ignore it, scanning his ID badge to give
them access to the lab. He sat the case he was carrying down on
a lab table. The box was an aged brown no bigger than the size
of a small child’s hand. Popping the clasp on the case he pulled
a vial of a murky red substance out and placed it down alongside
the vial Max herself just sat out.
Jeb turned towards a few of the others working in the lab that
day. The ones that ran it day to day. Jeb: ”Is she ready for
       us?”
Lab assistant: ”As ready as she ever is. You know how she can
get.” It was a younger man that spoke.
Max didn't recall seeing him before. He must be new.
Jeb: ”Yes...I suppose I do know how she can be.” He looks at
Max. “Don't forget what we discussed.”
Max: ”I won't. Not this time.” She recalled his words from
       earlier.
”Don't let her in your head.”
Jeb seemed satisfied with her response and walked off with a
woman somewhere in her thirties. Doctor Leona or something,
honestly didn’t make a difference. She’d likely be dead after
this if the usual pattern kept up. Jeb and the higher ups always
did like to keep the loose ends neatly tied.
Max watched the two exit the room.
       With Jeb:
The woman walking alongside Jeb passed over a folder. He perused
       it while she spoke.
Doctor Leona: “She’s been progressing wonderfully over the last
few months. No new mutations that we’ve been able to record.
However, she has been increasingly insomnia driven the last few
       days.”
Jeb shrugged that fact off as he read. It wasn’t that concerning
to him given the situation. He passed the file back to the other
scientist, waving her off as he again scanned his badge and
entered a second room in the facility.
This room was a small living space. It looked mostly uninhabited
aside from the large blanket pile in the corner atop the
uncomfortable looking bed. The blankets were dotted with the
occasional bright white feather. Upon the door opening a head of
bright blonde hair popped out of the blankets. The bright, wide
blue eyes that held fear and evidence of sleepless nights
searched for the sound of the disturbance. Upon finding it her
eyes narrowed, but the fear didn’t leave.
Jeb. His presence was never good.
She shifted her gaze to the open door behind him. Maybe she
       could run.
Jeb followed her gaze to the door behind him. Jeb: “We both know
that isn’t advisable, Angel, you won’t make it far. Besides
someone is here to see you and she brought you cookies.”
Angel: “I want nothing to do with you or that traitor.”
Jeb: “Ange..really there’s no need to be like this. We both know
what’s happening here is for the greater good.”
The blanket pile shifted farther as the girl finally crawled out
of the bed. She looked to be maybe seven and was not even half
as tall as Jeb yet something said that were there no others to
assist him nearby than she could likely finish him.
Angel: “Greater good for you or for the world?”
Jeb made a little half smile. Jeb: “We both know the answer to
that. Now come on.” He held his hand out to the girl and she
took it reluctantly letting him lead her back to the main lab.
Not as if she had much of a choice anyways.
       The Main Lab:
Max watched as Jeb entered the lab, hand wrapped
around..Angel’s. Max had raised Angel from a baby till around a
year ago. Abandoning her had hurt Max deeply and seeing her now
struck a nerve, but she had to keep a level head. Acting out
       could get them all hurt.
Oh why had she agreed to this.
She met Angel’s wide fear filled eyes for only a moment before
tearing hers away. Instead she focused on the medical tray she
laid out while waiting. It made her stomach turn, but it was
better than looking at her baby sister silently pleading for her
help when she wasn’t in a position to give it.
       Jeb: “Is everything ready?”
       Max: “Yes J- Dr. Batchelder.”
Jeb: “Excellent than let’s get started.” He lifted Angel up onto
one of the cold, medical benches in the lab. He didn’t bother
securing her. He didn’t need to. She wouldn’t get far with all
       these people against her.
Max pushed the medical tray riddled with supplies and the two
vials towards Jeb before she took a seat on a stool near the
bench. Not much hands on stuff she could do anymore. Instead she
focused on her sister. Max: “I know it’s not ideal Ange, but
after this we get to go home..together.”
Angel looked almost pleadingly at Max, momentarily closing her
eyes in a wince as Jeb secured an IV. It shouldn’t bother her
anymore, but she never could keep from wincing. She was
       scared..they both were honestly.
Save us Max. Get us out of here please.
The teenager shook the voice out of her head. She reached over
to push Angel’s hair from her face momentarily watching as the
clear sedative began to run down the IV, soon followed by a
golden liquid that quickly mixed with dark red as her sisters
       eyes slipped closed.
Max: “So what is this going to do to her?”
Jeb: “Honestly? I have no real idea. The blood of an angel and a
demi-god could mix with her mutations in a number of ways. It
could kill her..or..it could do something wonderful.”
Max saw red. Her voice rose as she continued to speak. Max: No
idea? You have no real clue what you could be doing to her?!
What if you kill her? Why couldn’t you pick one of the others?
       SOMEONE THAT DESERVED TO DIE.”
Jeb: “Maximum! Calm down. We picked Angel because she has the
most time to grow and change should this prove successful. Who
knows where this could take her mutations. She could save more
       lives.”
Max continued to fume while Jeb ordered a car to be readied for
when Angel woke. He would be moving her to his home near
Ragnorok. If the blood mixed well with the mutations, he hoped
to use her DNA mixed with nanotechnology in a future cloning
project with some of the others. A project that would prove
useful in the coming war. However, only time will tell.

       ((Welp. Let's get things started.))
While Jeb gets ready to move, Fang watch over from a few
buildings away. After his agreement with R. Kindron and passing
his "Trials by Fire", he became a member of Jigsaw with a fallen
nephilim as his mentor. Fang found out what has been going on
and is beyond furious at him and Max for letting it happen in
the first place. Though with R. Kindron's help, he can reunite
with his remaining flock family and bring down Jeb and his
       people once and for all.
Fang has Theo, Genzo and Hana with him. The other Ascendants are
around but hidden for the right moment to strike. They planned
this and got it approved with R. Kindron. Though they're ready
to call for backup in case things escalate. Noticing Fang's
uneasiness, Theo put a reassuring hand on the young fallen
       nephilim's shoulder.
Theo: We'll save them. Elias ran this plan through with Fu and
the Strom guy. If things goes sideways, we call for
       reinforcements.
Genzo: Although we try to stay away from certain groups like
Special Forces, Ragnarok should've known better than to team up
with these jack offs. So we shouldn't feel too bad if any
       Ragnarok members pops up.
Hana: Remember dumbass, we get too reckless, innocent people die
and it's our ass on a pike.
Genzo: Yeah, yeah, I get it.
Hana rolls her eyes and pulls out her walkie talkie. She doesn't
use it yet but gets ready to once Fang says the signal.
       Hana: On your word, Fang.

As the car was being readied and brought around several floors
above their heads, Jeb began to disconnect the IV in Angel’s
arm. He quietly ordered Max to dispose of everything in the
biohazard bins around the room. She was still angry, but an
order was an order. As far as she knew he had more of her family
       to hold leverage over her.
Jeb: Maximum, I can practically hear your angry thoughts from
this side of the room. I know you think this is horrible, but we
could be helping a lot of people. Besides, you know as well as I
do that we have the best medical experts in this field to help.
If not here at Itexicon then with my new associates.
Max: You told me they would be safe Jeb. That they would stay
out of this if I would go along with this stupid plan that
you’ve somehow dreamt up in your mind.
Jeb: Sometimes plans change. Just think it over. He wraps
Angel’s tiny unconscious form up in a blanket before heading for
the exit, Max reluctantly falling into step behind him. The duo
begin to climb the stairs back up to the main floor. When the
two get out to the car, she hurries to usher Jeb into the
backseat because while she didn’t care about him...the girl in
his arms meant everything to her. She pushes the door closed and
pauses to scan her surroundings including the sky and rooftops
       above.

Due to their own experiences of hiding in stealth, Theo, Genzo
and Hana made sure that they stay out of hiding along with the
other boys who are blending into the streets. Theo's mind
bleeder powers can sense Angel since she's a psychic.
Theo: They're coming. I'm sending a mental message to everyone
       to get ready.
Fang: Remember. We can't harm Angel or Max. As for Jeb, I don't
       care what happens to him.
Genzo: Ain't ya mad at Max?
       Fang: Tch...!
Hana: Hey, we'll worry about it later. For now, just focus on
       the rescue.

Max just shakes her head, trying to shrug off the anxious
feeling settling around her. After securely settling the other
two in the back seat she rounds the vehicle to get in herself on
the passenger side. She had better eyesore than Jeb so her being
in a position with a better view always made sense.
As far as Fang was concerned, a little voice was poking at the
back of his mind. It wasn’t his. It must be Angel even if she
was unconscious. She had always been good at being the psychic
voice in Max’s mind before, but now and in the last couple of
weeks Angel had chosen him. She always did have a good sense of
knowing when something was up or if someone was around even if
she never saw them. The Voice: As angry as you are...act
rationally. Hurting Jeb won’t solve any problems..it would only
lead to more. Save Max and get out.

Fang pause for a minute when he heard Angel. A sea of emotions
starts to overflow for a minute until he snap out of it and
       spoke back to Angel.
Fang: No. I'm saving you both. You two are the last ones still
alive. Besides, I'm not leaving you with him. Not again. The
people I'm with can really help us and been through the same
nightmare. I can actually use your help. A guy with is a Mind
Bleeder but your psychic powers can really help out. Please,
Angel. For the others that died.

For a moment, silence passes in his mind. The car starts up as
there’s a panic in the response. Angel: L-last ones..no my
brother..Iggy and Nudge they’re still alive. I was told they
were alive! The white coats promised. The voice shifts to
reluctance Fine I’ll help, but if things go south. You take Max
       and go.

Fang: Thank you, Angel. Don't worry, Jeb won't harm you two ever
       again. I promise.
       Theo: They're starting to move.
Elias: [i]Alright, everyone get ready. Our only priority is
saving the girls. Once we get them, head to the hideout
       immediately.[/b]
The mental messages are sent to Fang and the Ascendants who gets
ready. As a psychic, Angel is probably able to tell that Theo is
a mind bleeder. Although certain things are hidden, what the six
half bloods have in common is that not only they're from another
universe but they're also victims of something similar that the
       flock goes through.

As the group watches, the car begins to pull out onto the road
to begin the drive back to Ragnorok. From their line of sight
aside from the trio the only person in the vehicle is what
appears to be a human male who is driving. Aside from the
driver, the only movement comes from Max who is shifting
       uncomfortably in her seat.

When the car becomes close in view, it was the time to strike.
       It's now or never.
       Elias: "Now!"
Terros use his earth powers to transform the road into
quicksand. Han then use his negative energy to manipulate the
dark emotions of nearby bystanders to go attack the driver and
Jeb, keeping them busy. Putting on demon masks that they used to
wear back in their own world, Genzo, Theo, Hana and Fang begin
to make their move to grab the girls and leave as quietly as
they can as they use the commotion to their advantage.
