It had been about a month now that Sabbat Hei had brought a few
Sabbat Members to this universe. Among the ones over were his
younger sister, Yang Xiao Long Darkfire, and the White Fang
Darkfire member, Sang Noir. He hadn't called over Lucille or
Kurei yet, since he wanted to keep them out of the incidents
going on currently with groups like Castle Darkfire and Castle
Avernus. Things had gone about as well as anyone would guess,
with the cold war between the Lich Queen and Hei continuing as
the two sides build their forces for the coming war, a war that
threatened to spill into the city should they want to use
influence of fear in the city to grow their power. On top of
that, the Black Sun/Ragnorok war was still going, as both Khan
and Kendrix were still sending things like drones and artificial
beings they create to battle, occasionally fighting themselves.
Most were surprised the two have been able to keep going with
their battle, as the area where they warred was still somewhere
most of the city didn't want to life. Their war continued to
spill into the neutral territories, though it had started to die
down a little bit as many of the Ragnorok and Black Sun had
gotten tired of the war, and many couldn't fight anymore due to
the exhaustion they were feeling from the constant conflict.
Today, a battle had brought Ragnorok into one of the smaller
neutral zones, where Ragnorok members were fighting Black Sun
members. The Ragnorok and Black Sun members were both fighting
over a restaurant, one that they wanted to use as a hideout from
the battle so they could take a few days off and recharge, and
the two sides ended up causing a mass of destruction through the
streets as they fought. It didn't take long though as the
restaurant owner was trying to evacuate their customers that the
Ragnorok and Black Sun members were about to blast the crowd
leaving.
Before the blast hit, a wolf howl could be heard, followed by a
black flame wolf who jumped down from the roof of the building.
He not only catches the fireball, but devours it as well, in
which it makes the Black Sun and Ragnorok people stop, staring
at Sabbat Hei, neither side able to tell who's side Hei was on,
while the people rush away, except for a few members of the
staff who stay to the side curiously to watch Hei.
Hei: I happen to like this restaurant... So go fight in your own
zones. You're in the neutral zone right now. He says to both
groups.
Black Sun Member: You're a Darkfire right? Shouldn't you be on
our side?
Hei: I'm not on either side. I just don't want my favorite food
place in town to be destroyed. It took weeks to find this place.
He says coldly.
Ragnorok: It doesn't matter! Kill him! The Ragnorok member says
as he tries to attack Hei.
Of course, Hei just moves around him, jumping and charging with
a black flame dash into the man's chest, blasting him back as he
is knocked back. The rest of the Ragnorok members go to attack,
to which Hei takes out all of them through a combination of
claws, teeth and firing lightning attacks from his mouth. After
all of the Ragnorok members fell, he looked to the Black Sun
members.
Black Sun Member: I get it now. That's the Black Wolf! He's that
wolf entity that's been protecting people in the neutral zones,
according to rumors! One of the members says.
Hei: Wait what? Black Wolf? That's not my name. My name is- He
says, tilting his head in confusion, but is cut off by the Black
Sun member before he could finish his sentence.
Black Sun Member: We should leave... He tangled with Gin and
Shina a few weeks back and knocked them both out! He said if
they threatened him again, he'd kill them! The Black Sun member
says, now in a panic.
Hei: Who? That sounds like something I'd say, but I don't
remember that. He says curiously, not remembering the people
named.
Black Sun Member: Wait... You didn't remember fighting the
Kunokawa twins? They're among the two strongest members of Black
Sun, up there with Kendrix's top level members! He says,
somewhat surprised.
Hei: Wait... Was it those two shadow users? One of them had
crazy shadows and the other had dracopyre power? Yeah... They
didn't give me their names when they fought me, but they were
definitely twins. He says, recalling a previous battle and how
the two almost reminded him of Exiles Kendra and Kendrix with
how well they fought together.
Black Sun Member: It is him... We need to leave and report back
to Kendrix! He says in a panic.
The Black Sun members all leave, some teleporting out and some
jumping to the rooftops to get away as Hei just watches.
Hei: Well... That was weird... Oh well... He says as he walks to
the restaurant. The owner comes out with a large platter, which
had some bowls of ramen, a large steak on it, and even a curry
plate, having gone in to get some of the fresh food that had
been made before the incident started. It looked less like they
were feeding the one who saved them, and looked more like they
were feeding a stray dog.
Owner: You saved us, Black Wolf. Thank you. He says as he sets
the food down in front of Hei. Take this. On the house today.
Hei: Why does everyone keep calling me "Black Wolf"? He asks
curiously.
Owner: Oh... It's because you're a black wolf... It's the
nickname people gave you. I think it's supposed to be akin to a
super-hero name or something. He explains.
Hei: Really? I'm not a hero. I'm just another killer that kills
those that get in his way. He says to the owner.
Owner: But you didn't kill those Ragnorok members? He says,
pointing to the unconscious Ragnorok members.
Hei: Damn... I didn't? I must have held too much back. He says
with a sigh. He then looks at the food and sniffs it. Oh well...
I guess I'll be a hero... Just this once. I do enjoy the food
here. He says before he starts eating the food. Even though he
could have returned to his normal form, he stayed in wolf form,
eating the food to power his black flame wolf form. Despite what
people thought, he could still taste food in his wolf form, but
he usually couldn't walk into restaurants with his wolf form, so
this was one of the few times he had eaten in a while with his
wolf form. He starts eating, eating the curry first, and then
moving over to the steak and ramen. He actually eats pretty
cleanly, being careful not to make a mess out of the food. He
looked mostly just like a black wolf eating food, and mostly ate
just how one would expect a wolf to, only occassionally having
to tilt a ramen bowl with his paw so he could drink the broth of
the ramen. Thankfully, when he was in elemental form, he didn't
need human blood, just stuff to devour and burn as fuel, which
is mostly what the food was, which was partly why he preferred
the form since he didn't have to drink human blood unless he was
in his normal form for an extended period. It doesn't take long
before Hei finishes the food, and nudges the platter towards the
owner to show he was done after almost licking the plates and
bowls clean.
Hei: Thanks for the food.
Owner: Thank you for saving us. He says back with a smile as he
takes the platter.
Hei jumps up to the roof of a nearby building, and starts
jumping buildings. He wasn't too far away when he heard the
owner mutter to himself something about Hei being more of a hero
than he thought for not killing anyone, something Hei hadn't
realized he was even doing as he wasn't consciously holding back
his power against weaker opponents.
Hei finds a nearby building to watch the Black Sun and Ragnorok
battles, watching the drones fly by, and the cyborgs fight.
Kendrix and Khan were fighting in another part of town, but so
far, Hei had tried to stay out of the range of their fight so
Kendrix wouldn't sense him.
After he finds a spot, he lays down, resting his head on his
paws as he looks down from the rooftop, watching the fighting.
Despite the fighting going on, it was fairly quiet where Hei
was. As Hei was watching, he noticed two people walking up to
him.
Yang: Hey bro. She says as she walks up. Hei looks over at her
then back at the fighting, trying to calm his mind. You're
talkative... She says with a sigh as she goes and sits down not
far away. She was colder than usual, and watches the fight as
well.
Hei: Weren't you going to fight your alternate?
Yang: She's still recovering from a battle with this world's
Hei. She lost an arm and still recovering from the surgery to
install the arm.
Hei: Sounds like an interesting rival for you then. She lost
something too. He says, knowing how powerful loss can drive
someone.
Yang: Yeah... If she is able to get back into the fight. She
says as she tries to ignore the loss comment, trying not to
think about friends she lost during the Domination War.
Hei: So, what are you doing here then, Sang? He says as he looks
to his other side, where Sang had sat down, also watching the
fight.
Sang: The other me in this world isn't in the same time space
anymore. She's apparently being hunted down, so she's in hiding.
I can't get there unless you help me get to her.
Yang: So bro... How about you? She asks him curiously.
Hei: I haven't decided yet on who I want to fight. There's like
3 different Hei's in this world. One of them is Father Hei. I'm
waiting to see which one is best to challenge to a one on one
fight. He says somewhat disconnected from the conversation, not
liking to think about rivals and fights with other versions of
himself after what happened with Exiles Hei.
Sang: So... What about the other Kendra? Aren't you worried
something will happen to her if we don't get back soon?
Shouldn't you hurry?
Hei: It's fine... I have multiple elemental familiars out and
about in this world and in ours. I still have my rat following
Kendra, and my rat following Kendrix. Plus a group of them
searching for Laughing Coffin and watching anyone of interest
here. If I wanted to, I could go back right now, and I can still
commune with all my familiars.
Yang: Wait... You can maintain elemental familiars in multiple
dimensions?! She says, somewhat surprised. Not even mom can do
that! And her distortion power is greater than yours!
Hei: Thanks. He says sarcastically. But it's not that hard for
me. The rats maintain themselves and the dark flame distortions
allow my mind to not be that far from them by using it to bridge
the distance easily. It also helps that I've absorbed enough
space/time energy that I've become an anomaly that seems to be
beyond space and time. As long as they're made of the distortion
dark flames, I can send them to the opposite ends of the
multiverse.
Yang: Maybe you should show Mom that power... She's been trying
to do that for a while. She says to Hei. You came here to get
stronger right?
Hei: No... I didn't come here to train. He says, sounding
somewhat lost in thought. I came here to search for something...
I don't know if I'll find it here.
Sang: What is it you're searching for? Maybe we can help. She
says, looking over curiously.
Hei: No... It's something I have to find on my own. He says,
still thinking to himself. I don't seek new strength... I'm
seeking something beyond just more power. He says, more to
himself than anything.
Yang: What... You mean like a super powerful ability or
something? She asks, somewhat confused.
Hei: It's... nothing. He says with a sigh.
Sang: I would be careful though. Others are starting to see you
as weak in the family. If you're not careful, they'll try to
take your place as Mom and Dad's commander.
Hei: Let those fools try. They'll find I'm stronger than ever.
He says coldly. His voice then changes to being more distant as
he mutters to himself. It's just something that I've lost that I
must find.
Sang: You sure this isn't about your daughter? Or your grandson?
Isn't Cloud here?
Hei thinks for a moment. Most people forget that he was a father
and a husband once, not all that different from Exiles Hei
except that Sabbat Hei's family was a lot darker than Exiles
Hei's was, since Kendra was always hard to control, and after
the death of her husband, Cloud was the real only link he had to
his daughter who had been missing for over a 100 years now, and
Hei had assumed she was either dead, or hiding from their family
(which Hei personally thought was the case). He had always been
curious, but was never able to find out what happened to her. He
knew his daughter was strong enough that she could have gotten
home from almost any dimension, so it wasn't about rescuing her,
or even whether or not she was still alive. For Hei, it also
wasn't about finding the answer as to what happened to her so
much as it was finding out if she had died and he needed to kill
anyone who had a hand in killing her, which was the usual
response in their family if one of their own was hurt or killed.
In the Darkfires, hurting and/or killing a member of the family
was like declaring war on the family, something that Edgardo Del
Salvador learned the hard way in their world.
After getting lost in his thoughts for a moment, Hei responds to
Sang. Hei: Cloud has chosen the Order over us. I'm not going to
baby him and force him back to our universe. If he wants to join
the Blackfires, then that's his choice. even if I end up having
to fight him, I will do whatever I have to. For now... I'm just
watching what's happening while you two do your thing here. I
have my own missions to attend to, which I do on my own time. He
says to them.
Sang: Hei. You never remarried after Cinder right? She asks
curiously.
Hei: No. I didn't.
Sang: Why not?
Hei: Why are you even asking? He says with an annoyed tone. He
sighs and thinks for a moment. I just haven't felt like it.
Maybe when the time is right.
Sang: Maybe you should try and find someone. Having someone
could help you sort out your issues. Another mind to help you
regain what you've lost.
Hei looks over at her, looking for a moment at her nekomata ears
as he looks back to what was going on below them. Hei: Sorry.
Dogs and cats don't mix. I'm just not interested in you like
that. He says sarcastically, clearly misunderstanding what Sang
was trying to suggest, as Hei thought Sang meant that she could
be with Hei, making for a very awkward silence.
Yang: Sang... Did you mean...? She asks, now confused as to what
was just said.
Sang: No, that's not what I was saying, morons. She says angrily
to Hei and partially to Yang. She says with a sigh. Hei actually
looks somewhat relieved that he misunderstood what Sang said.
Sang: Well... I still think it'd do you some good. I was saying
you need to find something to get you out of this... mood...
you've been in lately. That's all. You're starting to bring a
lot of us down with your little depressed mood. Qrow once
mentioned that Raven helped him through the darkest part of his
life when he lost his niece.
Yang: Jeez... Scared me for a minute. She says with a sigh to
Sang. I know I always considered you a sister, but the thought
of you as a sister-in-law just seemed bizarre... And she's
right, bro... You do need to figure something out soon. It's not
healthy. Hell... At least go revenge mode or something... It's
what keeps me motivated. She says as she turns her attention to
Hei.
Hei: I'll be fine. I've fought through three global wars. I'll
manage.
Yang: Wait... Three?
Hei: Yes... The Sabbat takeover of our world, the war against
the Order last time I was in this universe, and the Domination
War. Not to mention all the other universes I helped the
Interdimensional Sabbat take over when we were with the Order...
I don't count those as wars.
Yang: Right... I forgot about that original war... That was
before I was born. She says in thought. She had heard about the
London universe war against the Order, and lived through the
Domination War, but hadn't heard much talk about the Sabbat
Takeover of their original world, which she sometimes forgot was
something that they did. Maybe you should retire, Mr. PTSD. She
says jokingly.
Hei thinks for a moment. Hei: You know... That's not a bad idea.
He says to himself.
Yang: I was kidding... She says to Hei sarcastically, somewhat
worried that he was seriously considering retiring from
fighting. You know there's no retiring from what we do. Even if
you quit fighting... Vampires like us can't live quiet lives.
Hei: If I wanted to, I probably could. But only after I
slaughter Laughing Coffin, and I find a good place to just relax
and avoid all the stupid conflicts people seem to enjoy in these
universes.
Sang: If anyone has earned it, I'd say you, your mother and
father have. You've been fighting since the beginning.
Hei just stays silent, and continues watching the fighting
below.
Yang: Did you hear the nickname they have for you, bro? She
says, trying to start a new conversation.
Hei: Yeah. And it's not bad. I didn't like it at first, but now
I think it's starting to grow on me. He says in thought,
starting to like the name people gave him as "Black Wolf", even
though he didn't like being called a hero, lest the Exiles
Kendrix have something more to make jokes about.
Sang: Well... I'm going to go. I need to call home and report to
Adam. I want to tell him what I found out while I was searching.
She says as she gets up and walks away. Hei just stays silent
while Yang silently waves.
Sang slowly makes her way out of the range of Hei's hearing,
going to the edge of the moonlight district where the mass of
people would make her difficult to overhear as she uses her
communication device from the Exiles world to send a message to
Adam. It doesn't take long before the image comes up in front of
her, in the form of a hologram of Adam.
Adam: How is the other world?
Sang: It's not bad. There is another version of you here. I have
confirmed it. He's different but similar enough that he should
be an interesting challenge for you. He could become your new
rival.
Adam: And what of what we discussed earlier? He says, speaking
carefully in case they were being overheard.
Sang: You were right. You can tell Raven that her suspicions are
more or less accurate.
Adam: Damn... I was really hoping that she was just being
paranoid... How bad is it?
Sang says the next part through Darkfire telepathy, not wanting
to say it out loud. Sang It's worse than she thinks. Hei's
considering retiring after this Laughing Coffin conflict. Hei
has lost his fighting spirit. Without something to spark him
again, I doubt he's going to want to keep fighting for much
longer. Right now, it's only Laughing Coffin that's keeping him
out of complete depression, at least from what I see.
Adam: Then I'll tell Raven and see what she wants to do. The
last thing we want to do is have to do something drastic to try
and get him back on track. With his experience, he'll see
through any plan we try, most likely. I was hoping that him
adopting Lucille as a younger sister, and Yang training with him
would help keep him motivated. But it doesn't seem to have fixed
much.
Sang: Also... There is something else you should tell Raven.
Tell her it is possible to send familiars across the dimensional
barrier. It sounds like Hei is able to do it just fine. He has
elemental familiars in this world and in our current world.
Adam: Interesting... I'll tell her. She'll be curious to know
he's pulling that one off. Maybe he's not as weak as we think.
He says thinking about what he was told. Keep an eye on him for
now and report anything unusual. See if there's anything you
guys can do about this "depression." I can't say I understand
it... I think he's lost more than any of us. If I lost a
daughter and wife like he did... I'd have been out for blood.
Sang: I think that's the main problem... He's trying not to be
consumed by revenge, and he's only after Laughing Coffin so they
stop hunting down Exiles members. He once mentioned how it felt
when his cousin died, and he has tried not to let that feeling
take control of him like it did during what they call "The
Bloody Mansion Conflict" back in Spain.
Adam: I remember hearing about it back in their war story
days... Rumor was that the amount of blood and pieces of corpses
Hei left behind in his invasion of the mansion made such a mess,
that it took them months to figure out how many people he killed
and to even attempt to identify the bodies. That's why they
started calling him "The Black Reaper", or some called him the
"Bloody Reaper". Now it seems like he's playing super-hero...
Sang: I don't think he's trying to be a hero. He just seems to
be doing it out of boredom from what I can see.
Adam: I hope... But keep an eye on him anyway. I'll report to
Raven and tell her what you've told me. He says before ending
the transmission. After the transmission was done, Sang starts
heading out, trying to track down her alternate, who was still
with Wykoth somewhere in space-time.
End.
