"I've drowned in rivers of blood. Walked on piles of corpses.
And never lost a wink of sleep."
"Was that all you had? I expected better."
"Stand proud, my boy. You were strong." - Xander after killing
Goten in a previous timeline.
"I wanted a path that would help me leave the Land of Shamans
behind. And that path did appear... But not in the way I
expected."
"Kindron and Shamala were seen as monsters. They fought to
protect the shamans but were seen as something to be feared. But
if you ask me... The true monsters were the shamans."
"I am not a monster. I will not choose to kill those that do not
deserve it. The innocent will not suffer at my hands. But those
that hurt others, that kill or torment. They are the ones who I
will devour. Though sometimes I do have to devour people who...
get in my way..."
"Our tribe was a small one. We lived in a place without much
food. We were always hungry. And when the food ran out, we had
nothing and started to starve. Until the white men came... Then
we hunted them down and ate them. We raised the animals they
brought and raised and ate those too. But that only lasted so
long. When we got hungry again, we couldn't go back to that
after living with all the food we had. So we turned on each
other. We literally ate each other until there were none left. I
am the last survivor of my tribe. And when I trained with the
Shamans in the Land of Shamans, I was allowed to eat once again.
I tried to only eat what I was given. But the hunger remained. I
couldn't hold myself back. And then Kindron and Shamala saved my
life. He didn't care about what I was, or what was in my heart.
It inspired me. And following that, I underwent the test to
become a shaman by going out into the world and finding my
path... But my hunger overcame me. I couldn't give up my desire
to feast and fill myself with the food I enjoyed. So I was
cursed with the sin of gluttony, and failed the test to become a
shaman. I cannot become a shaman any longer, but I can eat what
I want, when I want. No more do I have to live with 'just
enough' food. Even though I regret squandering the gift Kindron
and Shamala had given me..." - Xander on his past.
In a previous timeline when Vobu met Xander.
From the shadows, footsteps could be heard, along with the smell
of blood and bones.
Vobu stops his tracks with wide eyes in fear, even though Xander
was behind him and Vobu couldn't see him yet.
Vobu: Oh, god... It's him. He's finally shown himself. He says,
scared and shaking in place.
Xander: You know who I am? Curious. He says simply. I knew you
were like me... Hungry. But you know more about me than I know
about you, don't you? Vobu...
Vobu turns around, his face pale as he steps back.
Vobu: Xander Grove. Can we talk about this? I don't want to have
to fight you. He says, still shaking. Mostly because I know I
won't survive. He says somewhat jokingly.
From the side, Vobu's servant Zehra looks at Vobu.
Zehra: I've never seen Lord Vobu scared of anyone like this. Who
is this guy? I'm sure he'd fear Lord Xeles or Lord Phantom like
this, but I've never seen a human illicit this kind of fear from
him. She thinks to herself.
When a shaman was explaining the mortal sin of gluttony.
Shaman 1: The mortal sins break the laws of nature given to us
by the gods.
Shaman 2: And why is Gluttony a forbidden skill?
Shaman 1: Because Gluttony breaks the laws of growth. You don't
get stronger through training. You consume souls. Once Gluttony
gets a taste for souls, that's it. You lose the luxury of
holding it back. You either continue to devour souls, or you
starve to death.
Shaman 2: But Gluttony is a soul eater... We've dealt with those
before, right?
Shaman 1: Gluttony is not like any soul eater you've seen, my
boy.
"That thing is not a man. He's a monster in human form! The
blood... The souls... They're all inside him now. We lost
everyone to that... thing!" - An enemy about Xander.
"Shamans like him aren't human anymore. They're corrupted
spirits. Souls who twist the natural laws of nature. If you
think the laws of physics and chemistry are absolute, you're
going to have trouble with that guy. The smarter you are, the
more he breaks your logic."
"The mortal sin curses are curses for a reason. They break the
natural laws. There's a reason Shamans don't pursue that kind of
power. Not only is it taboo, but it comes with a cost. Every
sin... comes with a cost to your soul." - Someone about mortal
sin curses.
"Listen, Zehra... There's a few people you're never to fight.
Xander Grove sits at the top of that list next to that wolf,
Voban. He's the one who killed you in the last timeline.
Consumed you, a dark spirit, without losing himself. These
people aren't dangerous because they can kill you. They're
dangerous because they enslave you, make you their puppets. Not
even a dark spirit escapes him." - Vobu to Zehra
