"I do not judge. Nor do I condemn. My job is simply to lead you
to the afterlife."
"I'd much rather hold someone's hand much more than a scythe."
"No soul will ever have to cross into the afterlife alone as
long as I'm here."
"Tell me your story. Before you go, I will listen, and after, I
will pass on your story."
"Let's have one last drink before you leave."
"You have earned your rest. Come with me, and I will make sure
you get safely to where you belong."
"Your death is the end of your story... It's just where I walk
you to the door to your next life." - Azviel to someone who had
died
"Yes, I work as a bartender. My main job is a grim reaper, but
being a bartender pays the bills. And my partner, Rictus Blaze,
works as our resident comedian."
"I never understood why scythes are used by the death wraiths. I
get its a symbolic theme of harvesting souls, but reapers aren't
harvesters. We're guides. Scythes aren't even good weapons in a
fight. I don't know why reapers have to use them... I mean,
sure, anyone can learn to use anything as a weapon if they train
hard enough, but that doesn't mean a scythe is a bad weapon. We
should be depicted with lamps, or flashlights, or something like
that because we guide people." - Ezriel about being a reaper.
When Ezriel went to collect a soul.
Soul: I can't believe I'm really dead... They say sadly.
Ezriel: No one ever does. It's not an easy thing to accept. He
says softly.
The soul sits down.
Soul: I'm willing to go. But... Can I have a minute to enjoy the
view of this world one last time?
Ezriel sits down next to the soul.
Ezriel: Take all the time you need. He says softly.
When Ezriel was fighting a battle and went back to save an ally.
Ally: Why did you come back for me? They ask, trying to recover
from near death as Ezriel heals them.
Ezriel: Just because I'm a reaper, doesn't mean I like seeing
those I care about die. I am always ready to fight when it means
saving a life.
When Ezriel was with a soul.
Ezriel vanishes and reappears with a glass of whiskey.
Ezriel: Here. One last drink before you head to the afterlife.
Soul: Thanks, man. You're awesome. He says as he takes the glass
and waits a moment.
Ezriel lifts his own glass and toasts. Ezriel: This isn't an
end. It's the beginning of something more. He says to the soul
as they both drink.
When Ezriel and Rictus were working together in a battle.
Rictus: Oh god! I'm dying! He says dramatically as he rolls on
the ground after being slashed.
Ezriel: You're not dying. Stop being dramatic... You're already
dead. He says to Rictus.
Rictus stops and gets back up.
Rictus: Oh right. He says jokingly.
During a conversation.
Rictus: What do you think I am, an animal?
Ezriel: I dunno. I suspect you were a chimp in a past life or
something given how much trouble you cause.
Rictus chuckles.
Rictus: I guess that would make me a "monkey's uncle!" HAHA!
Ezriel sighs and facepalms at the pun.
Ezriel: I blame myself for that one. He says sarcastically.
"I will always support you, Ezriel. Jokes aside, you aren't just
a partner in reaping souls. You're my friend. And you've stood
by me and so many others. I will always respect you for that." -
Ezriel's partner, Rictus Blaze, about Ezriel
"He has the lowest number of lost souls compared to any reaper
in this universe... And that makes all our jobs easier. He's
really good at being a kind and compassionate person. I don't
care for it, but I respect his methods." - Death about Ezriel.
"I don't mind you hanging out with souls to put them at ease
about their deaths... It's admirable. But you need to get your
job done. You fall behind when you spend too much time with
souls. The longer you take with one soul, the more time is lost
on another." - Older Death about Ezriel and his habit of
spending time with souls to help them accept their deaths.
