"Saw the flames."
Chelsea mumbles before shuffling inside of Amani's room. She
takes a seat in a bean bag chair next to Amani's bed. Amani was
on her laptop reading a private message from one of her
informants before closing the laptop. It was one of her old
laptops that was altered so that no one can hack and track down
thanks to Kasey's skills. After setting the laptop down on the
edge of her bed, she turns to Chelsea.
Amani: What happened?
Chelsea: takes a deep breath I saw her. The woman who took me to
that orphanage.
Amani frown, knowing who she was talking about.
Chelsea: Look, I know the rule: Delta Raven, Compound and ARGUS
are enemies along with anyone associated with them. But I just
froze. Both her and Akiba... they seemed to be good people. Like
they want the best for me. And the look on her face--!
Amani: Chelsea...
Chelsea: I know manipulation when I see one, Amani. I've been
around enough Compound scientists to know that. But not her...
You should've seen her face.
Amani: Maybe so. But I was too busy making sure that we
alongside our friends make it out alive. Even if this Alexis
woman seem to have somewhat of a good heart, she's a part of
Delta Raven. A part of the people who put us and people like us
through hell. A friendly face doesn't always mean a good person.
You and I both know this.
Chelsea: I... I know.
Armani gets off of her bed and goes over to face Chelsea. She
gently place an arm on her shoulder.
Armani: I know what you're thinking. And I understand. I feel
the same way. We all do. There were times that I wish that I can
still be with my mother and listen to her songs. Hell, I still
do. But unfortunately, sh*tty things happen in life, especially
for people like us. The normals fear and hate us for something
we never asked for in the first place. This... terrible world is
out to get us... trying to turn us something ugly. And there's
time I want that ugliness to win.
Chelsea lunge forward and hug Amani tightly, tears streaming
down her face. Shocked, Amani hesitantly return the hug.
Chelsea: We're not monsters! But there are days where I want to
just f*cking burn everything to the ground! Especially after
everything that they've done! I hate feeling like this!
Amani: I hate it too. She says with angry tears welling up in
her eyes, her voice drenched with misery.
Chelsea's Flashback:
((Flashback theme: Can't I Ever Dream:
HTML https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_17LG_ha4lc))
Chelsea was six years old when the bombing of Central City
happened. It was an ordinary evening with her parents when it
happened, the bombing killing hundreds of people. Chelsea,
although injured, manage to survive but her parents didn't.
Afraid, she ran away and began living on the streets. A few
weeks later, two adults name Akiba and Alexis found Chelsea when
she was running away from an angry thug who she stole money
from. After dealing with the thug, who was planning to sell the
girl to some human trafficking ring, the two took care of
Chelsea for a few days before taking her to a orphanage.
Although it was Akiba who was the one to help her, Alexis visit
Chelsea from time to time and even went with Akiba to take
Chelsea to the orphanage. It was for her own good since both
Akiba and Chelsea couldn't take care of a child at the time.
During Chelsea's time in the orphanage, she mostly kept to
herself, watching orphans getting adopted left and right.
Chelsea spent her time drawing alone, that was until she met a
boy name Reki who took a liking to her drawings. The two would
slowly become friends. They would hang out together every day.
Reki even got Chelsea into skateboarding. A few years has passed
and the two weren't adopted yet. But that never bothered them.
One day, the two were playing hide and seek when Chelsea
accidentally stumbled inside one of the rooms of the staff
members of the orphanage. She walk up to a table with a bunch of
files. Her curiosity turns to horror when she reads them. The
files are of kids who were "adopted" but turns out to be used as
experiments. Some failures and some successes. She even see not
only her file but Reki's as well, trying to figure out who will
be next to be taken to Compound. Distraught, she quickly ran out
before the staff members comes back inside. Chelsea runs back to
her room and falls to her knees in a panic. All of this time...
the kids she thought were getting adopted and being brought to
their dream homes, were instead being taken to living
nightmares. It didn't help that she noticed that her hands
started glowing brightly which she immediately shove into her
light hoodie jacket pockets. She was alone for a while, deep in
thought until Reki came to check up on her. Although relieved to
see him, she was also scared. And for a good reason. Soon, one
of them will be going to that same hell, where all the children
will be damned.
The next day, she purposely reveal her neon powers in front of
the staff. One of the staff members immediately called ARGUS to
get her picked up. Later on, a elderly woman in a wheelchair,
the same woman who was the staff person with the files and has
been leading kids to Compound approach her. The woman kindly
told her that she'll be taken to a special place for people like
her and hopefully to a loving family. But Chelsea knew better.
She knew that this woman used honey suckled words and fake
kindness to manipulate her like all the other kids. That it's
all a lie. But if it's to protect the ones that she cares about,
so be it. Putting on a fake smile, she agrees to go with the
woman. She didn't tell Reki that she was leaving. She didn't
even say goodbye to him. It was too painful, especially due to
knowing what's really going to happen to her. On her way out of
the orphanage, she looks back and her eyes widen in shock. Up by
one of the windows, she sees Reki. The look of shock and
betrayal on his face. Chelsea quickly turn back, fighting back
tears. Although not the praying type, Chelsea prays to God that
Reki doesn't end up having the same fate that she has. That he
will be taken to an actual loving family along with a bunch of
other kids if possible.
Chelsea lays down on her bed in a cell door, bags under her eyes
and medical bandages wrapped around her right shoulder and
torso. It has been a few years since she was brought into the
Compound. She manage to be one of the many metahumans who
survived the trials and experiments. It hurts. Everything hurts.
Doesn't help that her healing factor is strong. Just last week,
they found out that she can survive a gunshot bullet to the
skull. And this afternoon, she was pitted against some
egotistical nutcase with water powers. Fun times. Despite being
in pain, She takes out a photo from underneath her pillow inside
of the pillow case. She looks at it, the photo being a picture
of herself and Reki when they were kids. Tears form in her eyes
and stream down her face as she place the photo on her chest.
She doesn't see Reki here, meaning that her dream in this living
nightmare came true: Reki got adopted to a loving family. A
smile form on her face at that thought. In the end, her
sacrifice was worth it. If her torment means that her friend can
live, then so be it.

Chelsea was heading back home for the afternoon on her
skateboard after taking some time to herself. She had to clear
her head. One her way back, she notice a secret skate park.
Putting a hood over her head, she walk over there and tried to
go in but the guard wouldn't let her due to her not having an
official pin. Though a young man around his early 20s vouched
for her and manage to get her one.
Chelsea: Um, thanks.
Man: No problem. Every skater and skater fan deserves to be
here. So, what's your name stranger?
Chelsea: hesitates for a minute: Fetch. My skateboard name
anyway.
Man: Heh. Name's Shadow. Also my persona. I normally don't do
this so consider this a courtesy or something. Might as well
bring you over to some people around your age. Seems like you
need it.
Chelsea: Funny... but I'm just taking a look before I go back
home.
Shadow: You got curfew or somethin'?
Chelsea: What?! No! It's just... never mind.
Shadow just chuckles and pat Chelsea on the back. Though she
stops when she notice Reki hanging out with a few guys around
his age. She felt like she couldn't breathe. After all these
years, he's alive and well. Her dream did come true. Before she
can turn away, Shadow wrap an arm around her and gently shove
her to the group.
Shadow: Yo, brats! Found a possible girlfriend for you! He yells
out teasingly
Chelsea: Girlfriend?!
Miya: Shadow, knock it off. You know that a slime like him
couldn't get a woman that attractive.
Reki: Knock it off, Shadow! And screw you, Miya! He yells out in
embarrassment as he shove Shadow away. Well, tries to. He then
turns to Chelsea with an embarrassed sigh. I'm sorry, he's an
ass. Though I haven't seen you before. You must be new here. I'm
Reki. This here is my friend, Langa. The smartass little punk
over there is Miya.
Miya: A pleasure.
Langa: Nice to meet you.
Chelsea: Hey. I'm Fetch.
Langa: Whoa, that's your skateboard name? That's cool. What's
your real name? If um, you don't mind me asking...
Chelsea: I.. don't want to say.
Reki: Oh, it's okay! Really! We are strangers after all.
chuckles nervously Hey, here's an idea! How about we break the
ice? There's a skate course over here. It's short and not much
but it's a good place to introduce ourselves and what kind of
skater you are.
Reki takes Chelsea's hand and begin heading over there with his
skateboard friends. They all line up in position on their
boards, ready to skate.
Reki: On a count of three. One... two... three... GO!
They all dash forward and begin skating. Although Chelsea is
keeping up, she seems stiff, almost afraid as she skates. She
was even hesitant to do some tricks until she hear a man in his
20s, Joe call out to her.
Joe: Fetch, it's okay! It's not life or death!
Reki: Don't fight it! Just let go!
Chelsea takes a deep breath, all of her pain and fears are
slowly gone as she begins to really enjoy skating. She first
start performing some tricks by grinding on a straight railing
flawlessly. The guys start cheering, even Langa and Reki skating
up to her.
Langa: Amazing~!
Reki: That's the spirit!
The group continues to skate, performing tricks and really
enjoying the sunlight. Even if one stumbles and falls, they help
each other up and kept going. Once finished, they stop by some
stairs and chill out.
Chelsea: I haven't had this much fun in a while. Thanks, guys.
Reki: Hey, no problem. I know things are crazy with everything
going on. But it's not the end of the world. We should enjoy the
little things in life while we still can.
Chelsea: Like stake boarding.
Reki: Exactly! You know, I don't know why but you seem familiar.
Like we've met before.
Chelsea: Oh, really? Strange.
Reki: No, really. You remind me of a friend I made back in an
orphanage.
Chelsea's blood froze Chelsea: R-Really?
Reki: Yeah. We were close friends. But then she got adopted.
I... never got the chance to say goodbye. When I looked out of
the window, I could've sworn that she seemed... unhappy. Like
she was in distress or something. Maybe she was nervous or
something. I don't know. I just hope that she's doing well.
Chelsea couldn't take it anymore. She wanted to tell him so bad
but couldn't do it. What if he rejects her? She's a metahuman
for crying out loud! Of course he'll reject her! Besides, he
made some new friends. She slowly begin to get up.
Chelsea: Reki... I have to tell you something--
Chelsea stops when she heard a small explosion. She and Reki
quickly turn their heads toward the sound.
Reki: What the hell?!
Joe, Shadow and another man who goes by the name Cherry rush
towards the kids in distress
Reki: Guys?!
Miya: What's going on?!
Cherry: You children need to go. Now.
Shadow: Delta Raven is here. They're hawking down on some kid
with some kind of plasma powers.
Reki: What?! There's a metahuman here?!
Chelsea: Oh no... Chelsea whimper in fear. Although Reki sounds
more shocked than scared, Chelsea has an inkling that he is not
a fan of her kind.
Langa: Who was it?
Shadow: Not sure. Some little man with short black hair and
brown eyes. Pretty lanky.
Reki and Langa: Conner?!
Joe: You know him?
Reki: He's part of our homeroom class back in school. He helped
me pass Algebra II. I... I don't believe it...
Cherry: We can have this conversation later. Right now, we need
to go. Delta Raven has a habit of grabbing children suspecting
to be a metahuman. Doesn't matter if they're right or wrong.
Miya: Then what are we waiting for?! Let's get out of here!
Shadow: Wait a minute! Where's the chick?
The guys look around, now noticing Chelsea has left. Langa
manage to spot Chelsea sprinting toward the direction of the
explosion, leaving her skateboard behind. This brought the boys
in a panic.
Langa: Over there?!
Miya: What is she doing?!
Cherry: Has she lost her mind?!
Reki: Fetch! He screams her name in distress but it was no use,
she was gone. We need to go after her!
Miya: Absolutely not! Besides, you said it yourself, you and
Snow (Langa) didn't know that plasma guy was a metahuman until
now! Besides, we have no chance against those guys!
Reki: I don't care! He runs after Chelsea.
Langa: Reki!
Shadow: That idiot!
Joe: Damn it, let's go after him before he gets himself killed!
Meanwhile, Chelsea was running at high speeds to find the guy
Conner on the ground, bleeding as the Delta Raven Team was using
the butt of their rifle guns to batter and bruise the poor
teenager. One of the higher ups walk up to the group, making
them stop as they silently step back. The higher up look down at
the teenage metahuman like he was a out of order bathroom stall
before slowly placing a boot on the boy's head.
DR Member 1: What'd we do with it? Terminate or Capture?
DR Leader: ...Throw it in the truck. Then do a thorough sweep.
There could be more of them still lingering around. Though if
you can't find any, then don't worry. This bio-punk here
probably signal it's buddies to flee... along with whoever's
around the 5 mile radius. Damn it!
A neon blast comes out of nowhere and blast away the leader. A
couple of more hit the others surrounding the young metahuman.
Chelsea then rush over to the boy so she can help him up.
Chelsea: Can you stand?
Conner: Grunts in pain Barely. Who... are you?
Chelsea: No time to explain. She says as she begin using her
neon powers to heal his major injuries Once you get your
strength back, make a run for it. And do not look back!
Once finished, she noticed the group getting up with a groan.
Did she not hit them in their fatal spots? No. They're wearing
their protective gear. Damn it!
Chelsea: Go!
Chelsea shove the boy away as she takes out her retractable bo
staff. She then rush toward the group and begins fighting them.
She manage to deflect some of the bullets and use her neon
powers to attack, but these guys were resourceful. One of them
shot Chelsea in the arm, which made her hiss in pain as she
smack the shooter to the side. She tries using her neon powers
but couldn't get anything out. So she stuck with martial arts.
She curse to herself while fighting for her life. The leader
punched her in the jaw, leaving her staggered for the others to
surround her and start pummeling her with no remorse until she's
battered and bruised. The leader then whistle for them to stop,
which the obliged. The leader use his boot to kick Chelsea to
her side and pin her ribs to the ground, ignoring Chelsea's
cries of pain.
DR Leader: Like the surprise? Got some new toys to deal with the
likes of you. Makes things so much easier. Hey, I remember you.
You were the one who was with that fire b*tch that tried to kill
Ishmael and Cantu. Tell us where your friends are hiding and a
deal may be cut out for you.
Chelsea spit at the leader, a way of telling the brute to f*ck
off.
DR Leader: Suit yourself.
The leader was about to do something until Conner blast a plasma
beam at the leader which exploded on impact. This gave Chelsea
to get a second wind and recover. She use her leg to take out
one DR member's knees before spinning onto her right knee and
using her staff to knock the other away. Both her and Conner
then continue to fight off the members. During the commotion,
Reki manage to catch up and stumble upon the fight. Not only
he's seeing Conner but he also notice Chelsea fighting them off.
His eyes widen in shock, watching Chelsea using her neon powers
and attacking like a wild animal. He couldn't believe it. All of
this time, his childhood friend was a metahuman?
Reki: Chelsea?!
Chelsea was about to finish the Delta Raven leader off when she
heard Reki call out her name. Her eyes widening in shock as she
slowly turn to Reki. After many years, the two are facing each
other. Reki walk up to Chelsea slowly, still in disbelief.
Reki: Y-You're one of them?
Chelsea: Reki, I--
Her words were stop to a halt when she heard a click and noticed
a grenade. She quickly lunge at him to try to shield him but it
was too late. The explosion went off, bringing down some debris.
After the dust cleared, Chelsea cough loudly as her wounds
slowly regenerates. She stumble upon a corpse which is Conner.
His top half being blown off from his bottom along with half of
his face. Chelsea held back the urge to puke as she continues to
look for Reki. She keeps going until she sees a hand buried by
debris.
Chelsea: Reki!
She scramble toward the rubble and got the debris off of him.
His body is battered but intact. She quickly use her neon powers
to heal him but couldn't wake him up.
Chelsea: Come on, Reki! Come on!
Reki: C-Chelsea...
Chelsea: I'm here! Don't speak. Look, I'm sorry for lying to
you! I'm sorry for what I did back at the orphanage! tears form
in her eyes I did all of this to protect you! That orphanage was
sending kids to a horrible place where they experiment on people
like me! You don't even have to be a metahuman to be sent there!
Please forgive me! I never meant for you to get hurt!
Chelsea's muffled sniffles and tears were interrupted by Langa
coming toward her.
Langa: Reki...?
Chelsea looked up, tears in her eyes. She pick up Reki's body
and carry him over to Langa, which he takes with his hands
shaking.
Chelsea: He's alive. But he needs to be taken to a hospital
fast.
Langa: You... what happened?
Joe: Reki! Fetch!
The group runs up to Chelsea and Langa, though stops when they
see Reki's unconscious body along with the dead bodies behind
her, leaving them in distraught.
Cherry: What happened?
Miya: What did you do to him?!
He yells at Chelsea with tears in his eyes, accusing her of
being responsible. Joe grabs Miya and holds him back, believing
that the young boy was gonna lunge at her.
Joe: Miya, calm down!
Miya: You're one of them, aren't you?! He trusted you and you
got him killed! You metahumans are all the same! Everywhere your
kind go, people get hurt!
Cherry: That's enough!
Langa: Miya, stop! It's not like that! Right, Fetch?
Chelsea remain silent. Tears flowing down her cheeks.
Chelsea: I... I tried to save him. I'm so sorry...
She stops when she hears incoming Delta Raven reinforcements
storming their way. Shadow swears as he gesture the others to
run.
Shadow: Damn it, we need to go! We need to get the idiot to a
hospital, fast! Come on!
The guys begin running away but Langa stops and turns to
Chelsea, who still remain there.
Langa: Fetch, come on, let's go!
Chelsea: He's right. I'm sorry. I really am.
Langa: Look, all of this doesn't matter. We can figure this out
once we get out of here.
Chelsea: Promise me something. Look after Reki for me. And once
he wakes up, tell him that I'm glad that he's alright. And that
I'm sorry.
Langa: Fetch, wait--
He was about to stop her but Shadow grabs Langa and takes him
and Reki away without looking back. Langa calls out but to no
avail. The Delta Raven reinforcements surround Chelsea, guns
ready. Chelsea slowly turn around, tears still running and her
head hung low. Another moment of meeting Reki and he gets hurt.
Miya was right. All people like her ever do is bring sorrow and
suffering. They're walking trouble magnets. But she never asked
for this. She never asked to lose her family, to develop powers
and to be turned into a weapon. To be treated as an experiment.
An animal. A freak. A MONSTER. She look at the group in front of
her, her eyes turning from gray to bright magenta. She let out a
blood curling scream of rage as her neon powers explode, killing
most of the reinforcements on impact by disintegrating them.
Those who are left and are struggling, the last thing they see
is Chelsea's glowing eyes filled with pain and rage before she
attacks them with her powers infused to her hand. After the
massacre, Chelsea looks up into the cloudy sky before
teleporting away with her neon powers, a photo floating down
onto the debris, revealing to be a photo of herself and Reki
before burning away into the fire and destruction.
End
