London WIP: Kioshi Soulfire
By: Zorbak the Ebil Moglin Date: June 3, 2025, 8:10 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
"The spirit of a Soulfire is an everburning flame that can never
be quenched." - Kioshi Soulfire
"Your blood shall not stain my hands."
"There is a beauty to life that monsters who kill others will
never understand."
"A true swordsman doesn't need a powerful weapon. Because they
ARE the weapon."
"We are not executioners. We remove a threat, but we do not
kill."
"I won't kill you. I will turn you over to the government. They
will decide your fate."
"If you wish to be a Soulfire, you must first purify your soul
and harness its power."
"Interesting... So this is the stuff the other spirit types here
are hunting. I suppose this could be useful." - Kioshi
recovering some rare Blue Azurite and Obsadite from a specter
attack.
"Kindron Darkfire is one of the few Darkfires who would truly
understand our goals and our desires to keep our hearts clean. I
look forward to meeting him one of these days."
"You are the worst of the worst... You shall be sent to the
Twilight Realm. You will live, but you won't be coming back.
Other methods of containing you have failed, and as a last
resort, you must be removed." - Kioshi before sending an enemy
to the Twilight Realm.
"There are two differences between us and the Darkfires. The
first is that we do not walk in the darkness. That is a dance
that only ends one way... With corruption and blood on your
hands that you can't wash off. The other difference is that we
focus on strengthening our soul. Instead of using the elements
in their normal state, we use our purified souls to create our
own elements."
"Do not think we are self-righteous and think ourselves above
others... We know that we are only people, and do not seek to
pass judgement on others. We seek only to save others with our
strength, and remove threats from being able to hurt innocent
people. Even sending threats to the Twilight Realm is a last
resort only to be used on those that constantly escape
containment, or are too dangerous to keep contained."
"Any swordsman will tell you just how powerful experience can
be. Those of us that have seen death up close, or experienced
near death, often come away with something more. When a
swordsman gets close to death, they hear a rhythm, a type of
frequency that all things have. When a swordsman learns to sense
that rhythm, they are able to master the sword in a way no one
else can. A rhythm that is the base of this world's elements." -
Kioshi describing the swordsman's wavelength
"As a swordsman and warrior, you must face death. Whether it may
be yours or someone else's. As a Soulfire, we must acknowledge
death. We may not kill, but that does not mean we won't ever see
it or cause it. However, we must make sure to never become numb
to death. If we do not feel when someone dies, then we start to
fall into a state where killing becomes easy. But should you
need help, do not hesitate to reach out to me. I have seen much
death, and I do have blood on my hands. I know how difficult it
is to overcome that, especially the first time."
"There are many monsters in this world... And we refuse to let
ourselves become monsters to fight them. We maintain our code
with a strict rule against killing, and we make sure to follow
codes to prevent ourselves from falling into darkness like the
Darkfires have, time and again. Look at all the Darkfires who
are turning evil across the multiverse. But I have yet to hear
of a Soulfire turning evil in the multiverse. Compared to the
massive amount of Darkfires and Whitefires who have turned evil
over the years. Even if there are Soulfires who turn evil, which
I'm sure there are, the Darkfires and Whitefires numbers of evil
alternates will always be higher than ours."
When someone went to a shrine and say Kioshi sitting at the
altar.
Ally: So, you maintain this shrine? They ask curiously.
Kioshi puts out the candle and turns his head politely.
Kioshi: I do.
Ally: You don't have a name on it... Who does this shrine belong
to? What spirit do you worship?
Kioshi: It belongs to all the spirits of nature. He says softly
as he turns back to writing his prayers on talismans. This is
not a place of worship... It's a place of respect for the
spirits who bring life and death into this world. He explains,
showing how similar, yet different it was to normal Shinto
shrines.
Ally: Life AND death? Isn't that a dangerous thing? I thought
spirits of death were evil.
Kioshi: Life and death exist as a balance in this world. Life
cannot exist without death, and death cannot exist without life.
If we could not die, there would be no need for new life and
life would cease to be living. If we could not live, then there
would be nothing to die. It is not good or evil... The only evil
is when spirits act beyond their station and ignore that
balance, such as dark spirits.
When Kioshi saw a group of opponents trying to kill someone.
Kioshi, clad in his black kimono with a white jacket, walks up
as he draws his sword.
Kioshi: Pathetic. It takes a whole group of you to take out one
person?
The enemy turns his attention to Kioshi as the enemy gets their
sword ready.
Enemy: Stay out of this! What are you, some wondering
swordsman?! He says, looking to Kioshi's traditional Japanese
outfit.
Kioshi: You could say that... He then vanishes and attacks each
of the enemies with speed and precision, leaving behind a
blue-ish flame glow as he moves.
The man who was attacked just goes to each one, noticing the men
weren't cut, but just knocked out.
Man: How? You didn't kill them? Is that blade real? He says to
Kioshi.
Kioshi: I take it you're not a skilled swordsman... Swordsman
with experience cut only when they desire to. Not before. He
says simply as he puts his sword away and walks away.
When someone met Kioshi and wondered about him.
Ally: So what, are you like a holy vampire like that Father Hei
guy? He asks curiously.
Kioshi shrugs.
Kioshi: No. Not like him. The Soulfires didn't fully become holy
or dark. We simply removed the cursed nature of our vampire
power through purification of our souls. So that our power is
neutral compared to other vampires. That means holy and dark
don't do any more damage to us than normal energy abilities.
Ally: Oh? So how does that work?
Kioshi: We balance our souls, and use both sides of the coin to
strengthen ourselves. Father Hei had the right idea, but the
wrong execution of his purification. He says, crossing his arms.
We remain neutral, so that we don't limit our potential.
"Be careful of his unique skill, Infinite Blades. He can summon
any number of blades that are manifested from his spirit like
entire knife and sword collections, or multiple lances and
spears. He can also summon blades with special attributes like
holy blades or demonic blades. He's very good with blades, and
can overwhelm even the strongest opponents with enough blades.
It's called 'Infinite' Blades for a reason." - An opponent about
Kioshi's unique spirit skill
"Kami's are a kind of nature spirit in Shinto mythology. The
Soulfires base some of their power on spirits, and replicate the
power of Kamis using their souls. They also manifest elements
through spirit energy. It's not true elemental manipulation, but
more along the lines of creating spiritual constructs of
elements. Kioshi is known as the Sword Kami, and his skill is
the ability to use and create blades with his spiritual power.
He's one of the toughest swordsman I've ever met, aside from
Kindron and myself. But Kioshi is still young, and he may
surpass me someday if he continues to get stronger." - Qrow
about Kioshi
"There's an irony to the Soulfires. They believe they are not
passing judgement on others, but they imprison enemies, and send
the worst to the Twilight Realm. In that sense, they are passing
judgement with their own sentences on enemies. They think
killing is too far, yet they will happily send dangerous threats
to the Twilight Realm, which is basically a death sentence, and
a place where souls cannot even get to the afterlife. There's a
hypocrisy to them that I don't agree with. But at least they
know to stay humble and not get too prideful. They do have some
positives at least." - Qrow about the Soulfire Family.
Name: Kioshi Soulfire
Title: The Sword Kami
Age: Unknown
Species: Purified Vampire (of the Soulfire Family)
Gender: Male
Hunter Group/Team: Head of the Soulfire Family
Appearance: Kioshi is a young adult male who is often clad in a
black kimono with a white jacket that often has blue flower
symbols on it. While not the symbol of the Soulfires, the blue
flower symbols are a unique symbol that Kioshi carries on his
jackets. He has amber eyes that give off a faint yellow glow at
the right angles. He has a silver-ish gray hair, which doesn't
get too long. He also often carries a standard katana, which is
his weapon of choice. Many consider him to be a modern day
samurai/ronin type based on his classical Japanese appearance.
His expression is controlled, but there is empathy behind his
gaze as well as a calm analysis of everything around him. He
doesn't hide his emotions, but there is a sense of an almost
mystical feel to his aura, and his spiritual aura seems to
radiate control rather than power. He gives off a sense of
authority in his family, since he runs the Soulfire family.
Despite not being as old as someone like Qrow, he is a natural
leader, and this shows in his appearance, as he looks and sounds
much more mature than someone his age would normally be.
Weapons:
- Choice Weapon: Standard Katana: When it comes to weapons,
katanas are pretty well known in the modern world thanks to
media around samurai and ronin. Katanas are Japanese designed
blades, which are made using a type of Japanese steel called
tamahagane, which is created from a traditional smelting process
that results in several, layered steels with different carbon
concentrations. This process helps remove impurities and even
out the carbon content of the steel. The age of the steel plays
a role in the process to remove impurities, with older steel
having a higher oxygen concentration, and being more easily
stretched and rid of impurities during hammering. And this means
that using older steel in this process results in a stronger
blade (some historians even say that katanas were among the
finest cutting weapons in military history). The katana is then
finished off with a cloth hilt for a comfortable grip. These
swords are all very strong grade weapons, and can be made with
both older and modern techniques to create stronger blades.
These blades are also all one-handed weapons, in that they are
able to be wielded in one hand. While katanas usually are held
with two hands in most styles, katanas can be wielded in one
hand (and often are by people who may hold other weapons in
their other hand). Normally, this just requires more strength to
use this way, but it can be done with the right styles, as there
are style specifically designed to wield swords with one hand,
such as dual wielding styles (wielding multiple swords). Katanas
have the most styles available for them, as there are many
styles that use the katana. While it does take skill to use a
katana since the blade is not as big as some other sword types,
those that do learn how to use katanas effectively can use these
to great effect. However, katanas can still be overwhelmed by
stronger weapons, and are not always able to handle larger and
stronger weapons depending on the katana and any other things
that go into it like supernatural powers. Katanas smaller blades
also make it harder to master than some other swords, since the
narrower blades can be as much a hinderance as a strength. And
when it comes to metal blades, there are always some weaknesses
such as blades can be melted by hot enough temperatures, or the
blades being metal could make them conductive of electricity.
Kioshi often carries either one or two standard katanas, which
have no modifications to them.
- Soulfire Item: Spirit Crystals: While the Darkfires learned to
crystallize elements into dust crystals, the Soulfires instead
focused on crystallizing their spirit power into crystals
similar to dust crystals. The Soulfire Family is able to develop
these spirit crystals, whether in the form of crystals or powder
that house crystallized spirit energy. Typically, this is
created for battle situations (though it can be used outside of
battle as well), where the Soulfires focus their spirit energy
into a special crystal material, and are able to infuse it with
special spiritual skills. When used in battle, the crystals or
powder are activated with spiritual power or by using some sort
of energy catalyst, where the spiritual energy released allows a
user to release the energy within this substance. Depending on
the spiritual energy that is crystallized, one can crystallize
any number of spiritual skills into these crystals. For example,
some Soulfires focus their spiritual constructed elemental
skills into these crystals so that they can call on them in
battle without having to waste their spirit energy. When these
are activated, the energy is released and the user is able to
then use the crystal's power depending on the skill empowered
inside. For example, dust crystals can be thrown at enemies with
the dust exploding on impact or dust crystals can be used to
blast the spirit skill at an opponent. Meanwhile, spirit crystal
powder is often kept in vials, or can even be sewn into
clothing. The Soulfires have far more range with this than the
Darkfires do with dust crystals, where they can infuse more than
just spirit elementals, but infuse spirit skills into their
crystals. Anyone can use these crystals, as it just requires a
little energy to activate (even if it's just kinetic energy from
being thrown at an opponent). However, the downside is that
these crystals and crystal powder has to be made in advance, and
it requires a certain setup and special material to make. Also,
the spirit skills contained within have to be input by someone
who can use the skill (for example, someone who cannot use
spirit lightning cannot infuse spirit lightning into a crystal).
Also, once crystallized and the spirit energy infused, the
skill/power cannot be changed. Lastly, people can only use these
crystals if they have spiritual power, where it requires some
spirit power to control the power of these crystals. Thankfully,
for the Soulfires, it is not a problem, but other races cannot
easily use these crystals unless they have spirit power. And
while these are effective on both normal people and spiritual
opponents, some opponents may not be hurt by certain skills.
- Soulfire Item: Spiritual Talismans: This is a skill that is
based on the Shinto religion that the Soulfires utilize. Since
the Soulfires gain power from spiritual abilities, they started
using these kind of talismans as manifestations of spiritual
power. These are modified versions of Shinto talismans, which
can be used for a variety of purposes. There are many types of
talismans, with the three main ones being ward talismans
(usually being used for defense or warding against some kinds of
creatures), purification talismans (designed to purify people,
things and places of dangerous presences), and the other being
attack type talismans (usually used to focus spiritual attacks
that are designed to attack spiritual opponents). Since the
Soulfires utilize spirit energy, and they gained an
understanding of spirits through Shintoism, they were able to
modify the spiritual talisman abilities to better suit their own
abilities. The way these are made are through prayers, which are
then written down while focusing spirit energy into an object
that the prayer is written on. Depending on what is written,
different talismans have different effects. These can be written
on a number of materials, with the most common being paper, wood
or even on small pouch that one can attach to a string and wear
around their neck for special benefits (called Omamori).
Depending on how they're made, they can be specifically made to
be used in certain ways, like paper or wood talismans being able
to be hung up or thrown as weapons. And other talismans like
omamori can be worn to protect someone using spiritual power.
The Soulfires utilize these talismans in combination with their
spirit powers, where they are able to make different talismans
based on how these talismans are made. When it comes to
weaknesses though, there are some weaknesses of talismans. First
and foremost, is that talismans don't always work as intended,
especially if whatever they are attacking or protecting against
are stronger than them. Another thing to note is that once made,
these talismans cannot be changed, and the effects always depend
on the prayer that is used on the talismans. Also, while these
are useful, they are vulnerable to strong demonic or dark
presences, which can destroy them with enough power or overpower
their abilities.
