Past Elsewhere Story: Dangerous Predator

Three Days before the Tournament:
Kanna Darkfire arrived in her room late one afternoon, tired and
regenerating from her battle wounds. Sighing, she flop onto her
bed and fell asleep. Hours later, she wakes up abruptly with a
shout due to a nightmare she had which made her grasp her tiger
designed tanto and unsheathe it. She notice Jon putting his
hands up defensively which made Kanna sigh in irritation before
sheathing the weapon.
Kanna: Belial damn it, Jon.
Jon: Hey, I'm just checking up on you.
Kanna: How long have you been--
Jon: Just now. One of the servants got worried but were too
scared to check up on you. Can't say that I blame them.
Kanna: Ugh. How's Zoe?
Jon: She's alright. She's recovering just fine. She'll be able
to still participate in the tournament.
Kanna: That's great to hear. sighs in relief I was worried for a
moment.
Jon: I don't blame you. Wolfwing's clan can be violent.
Kanna: I still can't believe that I was so blind. I was so
worried about the Hazeldines that I forgot about Jirius and his
bloodthirsty pack of monsters.
Jon: I know. Xell heard about the news. Luckily, he has Zoe
under his protection. Jirius and his people won't lay a claw on
Zoe.
Kanna: I hope so. This wouldn't be the first time the bastard
tries to be slick in order to get what he wants. Not to mention
having sociopaths such as Valentina and Gyuran in his group of
homicidal monsters.
Jon: sigh I know what you mean. But Xell is now worried that
things might escalate here. It used to be just the Kruetz
dealing with them since they were the branch from the family
tree. But now that you got into this...
Kanna: Jon, Valentina tried to eat my niece alive! Of course I
lost my sh*t! takes a deep breath I will keep the Darkfires out
of it. They don't know about the incident. Not yet at least. But
this is between me and Valentina. I'll make sure that things
doesn't escalate. Or at least try.
Many Hours Ago:
Zoe has been pumped about this tournament ever since she signed
up for it. Thanks to the training from her friends and mentor,
Zoe feels amazing. She's wearing her cloak and mask again as she
travels through the market again. This time, she notice a group
of B+ ranked Makai going into a dark alley. Curious, Zoe
silently follows them. She creep up behind a trash can to see
the group messing with a cloaked figure. She was about to go
help but her instincts screamed at her to stay put, which she
does begrudgingly. That was when she saw it. A huge smile full
of sharp fangs were shown under that cloak before a spray of
blood comes from a Makai's missing arm. Zoe cower behind the
trash can in fear as she listen to tearing flesh and wet
crunching bones along with fearful and agonizing screams coming
from the group. Once it's finished, she turn around and her eyes
widen in shock and fear, almost making the girl puke in disgust
and terror. Body parts are littered everywhere along with guts
on the ground. In the center of it is the cloaked figure
sloppily eating the insides of a barely conscious Makai. Zoe
tries to crawl away but knocked over a empty can. The figure
stops eating and begin to turn their head toward Zoe's direction
who sprinted away from the scene as fast as she could. She keeps
running through, squeezing through the crowds frantically. She
almost made it until she felt a heavy force smack her from the
side, sending her flying into a fruit cart. Zoe groan in pain as
she tries to maintain consciousness. Once her vision cleared,
she sees the cloak figure removing the hood from her head,
showing a female with long messy black hair and piercing hazel
brown eyes. Upon revealing herself, the residents of Makai
scatter like ants in fear, a sign that Zoe is in big trouble.
Figure: Finally caught you, little vermin.
Zoe: Who... what are you?
Figure: The crowd fleeing should've been a hint.
Zoe scrambles to get up and get into a fighting position, which
makes the female Makai chuckle darkly.
Figure: Brave little vermin aren't you? I'll cherish this moment
greatly. Your kind are a rare delicacy.
Zoe: feels her blood freeze You.. know what I am?
Figure: Of course I do! I do have a pretty good nose, after all.
Those fools back there were alright but I can make some room for
dessert.
Zoe shudders before barely dodging a slash attack from the
female figure who slashed the damaged cart in half with her
claws. Zoe remain on defense, using her karate and ki training
from Jon to keep herself distant. She can tell right away that
this Makai is trouble. Zoe manage to counter one of her slash
attacks by using her lightning ki attacks to punch the figure in
the ribs. That confident "I got her!" changed to "Oh God!" fast
when Zoe saw the terrifying look on the figure's face which led
to a punch which sent her flying backwards. Zoe tries to get up
but barely got the chance to defend herself. During the
onslaught, the figure broke Zoe's left arm, ruptured her ribs
and nearly cut her ear off. She even dragged Zoe's face through
a wall before throwing her into a wall. Coughing blood, Zoe
tries to get up but is grabbed by the collar by the figure.
Figure: There are so many ways that I can do this. I can peel
off your skin. I can chew on your bones. I can swallow you. Or I
can do what I did to those men back there. But either way, do me
a favor and scream. Your fear and despair makes it taste better.
And I don't know when I'll be able to have another human.
Before the figure can do anything, blue flames hit her in the
back, making her roar in pain as she drops Zoe on the ground.
The figure turns around to see an enraged Kanna Darkfire
standing before her. This gives Jon enough time to swoop in and
grab Zoe, which angers the figure.
Figure: Damn Kruetz! Always interfering! And now you brought
those arrogant Darkfires into this! Not everything belongs to
them! I found that human fair and square!
Jon: She's not yours, Valentina! She's my apprentice!
Valentina: laughs Wait, you're serious?!
Kanna doesn't give Valentina the time to rant as she blitzes
toward the Makai and starts attacking her in her spirit bond
form. Meanwhile, Jon runs off with Zoe in his arms, trying to
get her to a healer and to safety.
Zoe: Jon...
Jon: Don't speak. Just relax.
Zoe tries to stay awake but drifts off to unconsciousness. She
later on wakes up in a room with her wounds mostly heal. She
later on learns that the woman name Valentina is a werepire who
is 3/4 vampire and 1/4th werewolf. She then learns about the
rival Wolfwing tribe that but heads with Jon's noble family.
Present:
Kanna: This isn't going to be the last time that we see them,
Jon. You and I both know this. Jirius has to know about Zoe by
now. Not to mention us still trying to figure out Zoe's Makai
ancestor. Morrigan has a theory that she might be descended from
a primordial nature spirit or something similar to it. If Jirius
and his goons find that out, they'll be after her like a pack of
hyenas.
Jon: You leave that to Xell and the others. I know that he has a
plan in case one of them decide to act bold. Worst case, we
might have to get the Darkfires for help. For now, we'll keep an
eye on Zoe. For now, get some rest. We'll talk about it more in
the morning.
Jon leaves Kanna's room and close the door behind him. Kanna
flop onto her bed with a exhausted sigh. Her hand still gripping
on the tanto. She can't lose Zoe. She'll tear apart every one of
those freaks if she has to in order to protect her niece.
