       RP: Rebirth
By: Caterina Sforza Date: November 20, 2024, 9:37 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
(Jump in if you feel inclined. Had a rush of inspiration for
       Edie’s Introduction)
       Two Years Prior
       Mr. Sinister: Ruth Aldine.
       Edith: Hm?
Edith cranes her neck trying to look at Mr. Sinister, his place
behind her made it a difficult task. It had been a month—maybe
two—since she had last been called here. The break had been a
welcomed respite, not that it was a real break by any man’s
standards. She had spent the time being ran through a rigorous
training program, pushing her body to its limits and then even
farther once she broke. The combat drills and the tech exercises
were nothing new— a lot of it reflected lessons from Auntie
Tasha or her parents. Her heart panged at the thought of them
every time. She drifted briefly to thoughts of her mother. God
how Peggy would’ve hated this man for tainting the best thing
she’d ever made. Sinister’s voice drags her back. Right Ruth.
Sinister: The name of the woman the DNA we’re using on you today
       came from. Codename Blindfold.
Edith: Upfront honesty. It only took seven times. Learned your
       lesson finally?
Sinister: I know you will hack into whatever systems you need to
or force the information from someone anyways just to know. It’s
nearly frustrating how well your skills for extracting
information have come along in that regard. I can only be
grateful they’ll end up being of use to my team in the future.
Hopefully we’ll be able to introduce you soon.
Sinister finally comes around into her line of sight carrying an
IV bag and line. She knew the amount of sedative in that bag
could down a couple horses, a necessary measure due to the
nanites in her body. They worked quickly to remove foreign
substances from her body and sedatives were no exception. A grin
played on her face remembering how she had jumped Sinister like
a feral animal the first time this scenario had played out. She
had been subdued quickly, but the few hits she had gotten in had
felt like power at the time. The dosage was very quickly
       increased after that.
Edith: You might get lucky today.
She barely winced as the needle slipped under her skin. As the
medication started to flow through her vein, she let Sinister's
presence in the matter fade. Her senses turning instead to the
sound of rain as it beat down on the roof of the building. A
thought came to her mind as she started to slip into the land of
Nod. Her attempt to voice it probably sounded more like mindless
       rambling than anything.
Edith: You know it’s raining out…bloody pouring honestly. Mum
said it was raining the day I was born. I picked a dreary day to
come planet-side. Maybe it’ll be the same when your creation is
       birthed.
       Present Day:
Edith: I can feel the glare from all the way over here Fetu.
Spare me the f*cking lecture today. I get that I screwed up. I
       still got the job done.
She drove her fist into the punching bag, her knuckles stinging
from the continuous frustration driven assault. The mission had
       been straightforward enough—take out a high-ranking officer
leaking classified military intel. But things rarely went
according to plan in her life. Really, in hindsight she should
have anticipated the mistress. Why would a man who couldn’t be
faithful to his government be faithful to his wife? And yet by
the time the clacking of those ridiculous red bottom shoes had
reached her ears, she had already been muffling the noise from
the man’s violent thrashing. Ah well collateral was collateral.
A phrase she had to remind her guilty conscience too often.
Fetu: Not why I’m actually here. I really don’t care about your
failings aside from when they reflect on me. I’m here for
business. You’re being sent out again in a few days.
Edith: I’m surprised they want to send me out so quickly after
that. Figured I’d be benched. A double murder and a fire is no
       small task to cover up.
Fetu: It isn’t but not every assignment you’ll ever go on will
be clean cut and dry. Too many moving pieces for that.
Regardless, you should take the time to recuperate and maybe
brush up on those skills we taught you. And no that wasn’t a
       suggestion.
Edith turns to face the vague direction of his voice. She
couldn’t see his expression, but based on his tone of voice she
was sure the glare had shifted to disinterested boredom. Fine by
       her.
Edith: Right. I guess I’ll be going then.
She crosses the training room, yanking her coat from the weight
rack she tossed it over. She shoves past him out into the
hallway while shrugging it on. If she had a free day, she was
going out for a stiff drink in a dive bar.
Fetu: Oh and since you’ve shown signs that Sinister’s work is
finally taking, your file has been distributed as necessary to
other branches for work. You’re about to get very busy little
       Edie.
Her steps falter momentarily before she continues on and out to
the street with a huff of annoyance. Screw him. Actually screw
this whole place. She wanted out to a degree, but couldn’t bring
herself to actually leave. At least not on her own. Weapon X was
all she knew in this universe. It had become a twisted little
home. God how she missed her parents.
Edith: Maybe the cheap bottom shelf vodka will actually send me
       into liver failure this time.

(Screw it, I'm gonna jump in.)
Alejandro, the clone creation of Sinister and the alternate
Omega, comes up beside Edith. He wasn't trying to suppress his
presence, so he wouldn't really surprise anyone. Alejandro:
Perhaps you'd like someone to drink with, Amiga (Friend)? I find
myself also craving something to drink. And young Goten doesn't
even look old enough to drink, so I can't take him. He says.

Edith stuffs her hands in her coat pockets as she continues on
down the street. She responds without looking back. Edith: F*ck
it, why not? I could use the company. And as for Goten it’s
likely because he isn’t though a good drink might finally put
       some hair on his chest.

Alejandro: Well... Goten and I are both clones. And we're not
that old. But I was artificially aged far higher than Goten was.
Goten still looks like a child, since that's where the abilities
of the original DNA were at when the DNA was used to create our
Goten. So I'm just lucky enough to look the part.

Edith: How interesting. It’s amazing to see how far cloning has
come here. It’s well developed back home, but nothing like this.
I imagine it must be frustrating to be stuck in one place in
life forever especially as a child.

Alejandro: I'm sure Goten will grow as time goes on. He's a
human clone, so there shouldn't be anything keeping him from
aging normally. Me, I'm a vampire clone, so I doubt I'll age
       beyond this point.

Edith: I'll be interested to see how he'll end up as he comes
into his own then. She makes a left crossing the street at the
next corner. You know vampires are rather a still fresh concept
for me born, turned, or made. We didn't have them back home.
They were just stories or myths told to scare kids or make for
good media. It's been an adjustment even after the last couple
of years. She looks over her shoulder at him or at least in his
general direction. Not that you've known any other state of
being, but if you could choose would you pick a vampiric clone?

Alejandro: It is a difficult thing to keep up with. There are a
lot of vampire types in this world, and many work differently
from each other. He then thinks when Edith asks if he'd chose to
be a vampire clone knowing what he knows now. That's hard to say
honestly. Many races have advantages and disadvantages. I do
enjoy the power I have as a vampire, and the vampire I was based
on had powerful abilities. But I do think being human wouldn't
be so bad either. Or possibly being werewolf. Every races has
their advantages and disadvantages. As long as I'm not a dark
spirit or something like that, I think I'd manage.

Edith: I promise you that you wouldn’t want to be a human. We
can be rather fragile little things on our own. Although I’ll
give us a point for endurance. She shoves open the door to a
little dive bar. It’s not seedy by any means, but it’s clearly
the place to go if you don’t necessarily want to be found right
away. Our bodies stand up to a surprising amount of distressing
       activities.

Alejandro follows her in. Alejandro: Life itself is frail and
fleeting in this purgatory of mortality. We are all frail and
helpless beings trying to find purpose in a world fighting for
       survival.
