Elseworld's Story: New Opportunities

This story goes back to the world of Makai, the world of strange
creatures that live in the Makai Realm of their universe. The
story continues with Zoe Zolnerowich, a human teenager who
stumbled into the Makai Realm one night which took a huge turn
in her life. Not only she learned that her godmother, Kanna
Darkfire, is a Makai (human/demon hybrid) resident and an S
class, but Zoe is also a descendant of one of the seven noble
families who came to the human world long ago. Not to mention
that there is a possible chance that her older sister, Maya is
somehow still alive. As much as she wants to go help find her,
Zoe has to remain in Makai for her own safety for better or
worse. Besides, Zoe has her own problems to worry about. Main
one? Zoe is still a human residing in Makai, which is a huge
problem since humans aren't allowed in Makai. Those who stumbled
upon Makai don't last very long, especially they're viewed as
either livestock or a threat. Mainly both. It depends on the
Makai. Not to mention that only Makai blood can travel to the
realm. So Zoe being able to do that plus Morrigan Aensland
herself theorizing that Zoe is a descendant of a powerful Makai
sparks a lot of commotion. Luckily, the Aensland family and the
Darkfire family manage to calm things down and deduce it to
rumors with help from the Vowl Kingdom so word about the girl
being in Makai wouldn't escalate. Although there is one thing
Zoe will have to learn due to her circumstances: Things will
only get worse before it gets better.

Zoe is out at the market wearing her cloak and bear mask again.
Though underneath is her apprentice martial arts outfit with a
golden belt that has a yellow line in the middle. It has been
weeks ever since she came to Makai. Ever since she has been
learning about the demon realm and their rules along with the
whole class ranking system with D being the lowest and S+ being
the most powerful. As for Zoe herself well... she's classified
as a C class rank. Usually, a C rank isn't so bad. Though the
problem here is that the C class is known as the slave class of
Makai. They are the livestock and servants for the higher
classes. Without them, the economy of Makai wouldn't hold.
Humans who wander into Makai by accident are classified in this
class. And Zoe is one of the humans who accidentally stumbled
upon Makai. Her being the goddaughter of an S class doesn't
change much. The only thing it did is getting some Makai members
who were at the market at that time to back off. Plus, her being
an apprentice to Jon Talbain who is a B+ class helps out. Well,
for the most part.
As Zoe spends her Friday afternoon at the market, she manage to
talk to a few of the local merchants who were friendly enough to
let her buy a few things despite knowing what she is. One even
stating that it's a first for everything as Zoe buys some fruit
and dairy from him. She even encounters the same zombie and
troll makai who spoke to her beforehand before buying meat,
spices and essentials from them.
Zombie Makai: Take care, tyke! Stay out of trouble!
Troll Makai: Have a good day, little one.
Zoe: Thanks, guys. You too.
As she leaves, an elderly female oni in a suit comes from the
shadows with a disdain look.
Oni: How long does that human have to stay here?
Zombie: Beats me.
Oni: You're as hopeless as that human is.
Zombie: Oh cut the tyke some slack, ya hag. We used to be young
like her once upon a time. She seems like a good kid though.
Oni: Hmph. The sooner that human leaves, the better it will be
for all of Makai. leaves
Zombie: grumbles Cranky old b*tch.
As Zoe walks away from the market place, she heads over to a
small food truck and orders some snacks for herself and Jon
before leaving. She then travels through a shortcut which will
take her to Jon's place. On her way past a school, she notice a
bunch of Makai around her age loitering around the campus
smoking. She notice that they're all wearing jerseys that says
Black Dragons on them. She frowns, remembering one of the shop
owners back at the market complaining about these guys being a
bunch of thugs who are A class ranks from different families.
Knowing that this means trouble, Zoe tries to avoid their eye
contact and walk off but is stopped by a Black Dragon member who
grabbed her by the arm.
Black Dragon: And where do you think you're going?
Zoe silently curse in Russian as the other members begin to
circle around her, wondering who she is. Luckily, she still has
her disguise on but that might not last long.
Zoe: Hey, this doesn't have to be this way. She says calmly, her
voice muffled by the brown bear mask she's wearing. Her dark
brown eyes looking at the others, trying to discard whatever
fear or worry she has in them.
Black Dragon: Perhaps. But we can't just let you waltz past our
territory without a simple hello.
BD Thug 2: Not to mention that there's a rumor of a stranger
with a cloak and a mask wandering around who turned out to be
human. Now, if it's not you, you can prove it to us by removing
your mask.
BD Thug 3: Wait, guys. Let's be careful. This might be someone
else.
BD Thug 2: What, you chicken or something?
BD Thug 3: No, jackass. I'm trying not to end up like the Rag
Tag Gang. They tried to pick a fight with someone with a cloak
and mask like this one and they ended up dead in 10 seconds!
What if this is an S class or something?
??: That's not an S class. Don't worry.
Zoe turns to two people walking up to her and the group. She
sees a male demon and a female vampire Makai who are teenagers.
They seem to be a year older than her.
Thug 3: Kai? Verena?
Kai: Better yet, I think it's best that I show it to you.
Kai tries to make the first punch but Zoe dodge it by leaning
back and flipping the thug who was holding her over her
shoulder. She then begins to defend herself when the other thugs
start advancing on her. During the squabble, Verena steps in and
tries to slash at Zoe with her claws. Zoe barely dodged it,
leaving her cloak and mask damaged by the slash which reveals
her apprentice outfit and her right eye.
Zoe: Damn!
Kai: Just as I thought.
BD Thug 2: The rumors are true after all! A human is in this
realm!
Zoe: Back off. I'm not looking for trouble!
Kai: Ha! You should've thought of that before coming here, low
rank!
Thug 2: Wait, she gets a rank?
Kai: Any human who stumbles upon Makai is automatically a C
class. Speaking of which... turns to Zoe Who do you belong to?
If you don't belong to anyone, then you're basically easy
picking for anyone. Your best option is to be with us.
Zoe: Interesting... but I'll pass. I like my freedom. She states
sarcastically You guys don't want this fight.
Verena: Aww, it's trying to act tough. It's almost cute. She
states mockingly Guess we'll have to teach you how things really
work in Makai... starting with the class systems... and why it's
important to know one's place.
Verena snaps her fingers, a cue for the gang to attack her. Zoe
throws off the cloak and mask from her body and begins to fight
back. So far, thanks to the training from her late father and
recent teacher Jon, Zoe has been doing pretty well both ki wise
and martial arts wise despite the odds being against her,
especially since she's fighting B+ Class Black Dragon members.
Though during the fight, one thug tries to sneak attack Zoe by
slashing at her side. Zoe yells in pain which cause the Black
Dragons to get a few hits in. Zoe manage to counter one of their
moves with a lightning infused ki, which sends the thug flying
by everyone's surprise, even Zoe's. This made Verena steps in,
gesturing with her hand for the thugs to step aside which they
did in silence. The two female teenagers then start fighting
each other. The two seem to be somewhat even martial arts wise.
Though power wise is when Zoe is starting to struggle. Verena
punch Zoe's slash wound, which made her yell in pain before
being kneed in the chest, grabbed by the collar of her shirt,
judo thrown over and slammed onto the ground. Zoe's ears start
ringing loudly as she groan in pain. All she can hear is muffled
laughter and cheering. Zoe tries to get up but is pinned back
down by Verena by putting her foot on her wound.
Zoe: In Russian: You b*tch...!
Verena: Good. You got some fight left. reveal her fangs But the
lesson isn't over yet.
Before Verena can do anything, Kai is kicked to the side by an
oni hanyo, which got Verena distracted enough for Zoe to break
out of the hold by grabbing her ankle, twist it to loosen the
hold and get her assailant off balance before shifting and
kicking her to the side. When Zoe got up, she notice another
group of teenagers fighting the thugs. Verena gets up with a
snarl as she glares at her new opponent which is a bat demon.
Verena: Stay out of this, Kamari! This has nothing to do with
you or your stupid friends!
Kamari: Every time I see you, you sink to a new level of low.
Guess cowards really do have no boundaries.
Verena: Coward?! Are you an idiot? Do you know what that is?
Kamari: All I see is an apprentice with potential getting jumped
by maggots. It doesn't matter what she is. She's not doing
anything wrong. If she's such a problem, Morrigan Aensland
herself would've handled it. Hell, the Darkfires and my father
would've done something about it.
Verena: You would defend a lowly C rank? A damn blood bag?!
Kamari: I would stand up for someone who is wronged regardless
of race or class. Now leave before you and your goons gets
beaten badly again.
With a scowl, Verena whistles for her goons to fall back, which
they do. Verena gives out one last glare before dispersing as
well. After the fight ended, Zoe exhale sharply in pain as she
takes a seat on the pavement. A healer rushes over to heal Zoe's
wounds while two more gather her groceries for her and bring it
over to her. After a minute, the healer steps back from Zoe.
Zoe: Thanks.
Meanwhile, Itto picks up Zoe's mask and cloak from the ground
and hand it over to her after dusting some dirt and gravel off.
Itto: I know it's messed up but I'm sure you still need it.
Zoe: Thanks, though there might be no point of wearing this now
since everyone knows what I am. And those guys doesn't seem like
the the type to keep things subtle.
Itto: Yeah, that's a nice way of putting it. He says jokingly By
the way, my name is Itto. And this here is my friend and
co-leader, Kamari Cel Frumos.
Zoe: ...Arzhela.
Itto: Nice to meet you, Hela. He says cheerfully You need help
with those?
Zoe: Nah, I got it.
Itto: Well, then here.
Itto fishes out a folded piece of paper from his pocket and
hands it to Zoe. Zoe carefully unfolds it and sees a flyer to a
dojo called the Wasabi Warriors.
Itto: I know you got a master teaching you but the people there
are also great. They don't judge and anyone is welcome as long
as you're not like the Black Dragons or beyond. Just ask for a
guy name Jack. Tell 'em that Itto sent ya.
Kamari: A fighting tournament is coming up as well. Anyone from
D rank to A rank can participate. The S ranks like me and above
will be there to watch. They got prizes for the winners and
everything. It starts soon so you have some time. I'll be there
to support the Wasabi Warriors since our friend Jack is in
there. There's no rush. You have time to think about it. Who
knows? You entering in might inspire some people.
Itto: Welp, we gotta go! Take care, Hela!
With that, Itto and the others leave. Zoe folds the paper back
and puts it in her pocket. Sighing, she puts on her cloak, picks
up her groceries and walk back to Jon's place. Wasabi
Warriors... and a tournament coming up soon. Sounds like fun.
Meanwhile, at the Darkfire Castle
Kanna is out on the wooden rail of the balcony of her room in
the Darkfire castle, smoking while deep in her thoughts. It has
been weeks ever since what transpired in and out of Makai. One
godchild is MIA while the other is here, which is one of the
worst places she could've end up in. Doesn't help that Qrow
Darkfire's condition is getting worse. She feels like a failure
for not being there for the Zolnerowich family back then. But
the least she can do now is protect the ones she cares about.
Kanna: Belial damn it! She hiss to herself
Ace, the kitsune spirit that resides within her, speaks to her
mentally
Ace: Stressed out this afternoon aren't we? He ask sarcastically
Kanna Sarcastically: It's that noticeable?
Ace: The cosmos can sense your super brooding from this realm.
Kanna: F*ck you.
Ace: Heh. On a serious note, I'm not the only one who's worried
about you. Your family worry for you as well, you know.
Kanna: Scoffs. That's a first. Which one? She ask sarcastically
Ace just sighs a bit, knowing that she has a rocky relationship
with her grandparents, mainly grandfather, due to Kanna being
half human.
Ace: Okay, different topic. Do you want to talk about it? Can't
stand your brooding energy. It's throwing my good vibes off.
Kanna: sighs a bit I feel like I failed the Zolnerowich family.
Zeke and Nattie are dead. Maya's MIA and Zoe is here.... the one
place I do NOT want any of them in. If I didn't take that damn
mission in Shibuya...
Ace: It's not your fault. You had to go to Shibuya to stop that
bastard, or a lot of Makai people would've died or worse.
Besides, you can't protect everyone, no matter how hard you
tried. And from what you told me about this family, they would
not blame you. Hell, they would be p*ssed at you for beating
yourself up about this.
Kanna: Heh. Yeah. Zeke would've clobbered me for thinking that
way. But I still worry about the girls. One is Belial knows
where and the other one is in Makai. Even with Jon, she's still
at risk.
Ace: She also got you. Well, you and me.
Kanna: But even we can't always be around. You know what they do
to humans. I know the rules states that humans aren't allowed.
Everyone is fine with that rule regardless of how they feel
about them. But Zoe... she's just a kid.
Ace: The most you can do is do what you can. Maya is a soldier
and Zoe seems to be pretty tough. I have faith in you and those
crazy kits.
Kanna: ...Thanks.
Kanna then notice a butler coming inside and bow politely to
her.
Butler: Lady Kanna. Your presence is requested immediately in
the family room.
Kanna sighs as she puts out her cigarette Kanna: Alright. I'm on
my way. She says bluntly as she starts walking out of the
balcony, across her bedroom and exit the room, leaving the door
slightly open on her way out.
Ace: I wonder what it'll be this time. Think it's about the
kids?
Kanna: Maybe. Hopefully it'll be something positive.
Ace: Could be info on Maya or who's their Makai ancestor. Who
knows? Maybe it's the old geezer wanting to say hi and apologize
for being such a d*uche.
Kanna: Ha! Now THAT would be a surprise.
Somewhere in Japan
Meeting Theme:

It's nighttime in Tokyo, Japan. A few Hazeldine members are
going through nightly routines due to them acting like the
Yakuza. Outside of the estate, Blade is talking to someone on
the phone.
Blade: In Japanese: Look, I don't care who's fault it is! The
shipment comes in tonight. This is some important sh*t too! If
anything happens to it, your balls will be the least painful
thing to be removed! Understand?! hangs up Ugh. Answers the
phone when it rings again What?! I'm outside, Ryoko-- What?!
Where? I'm on my way.
Blade storms into the estate where he sees Ryoko there, waiting
for him. Once there, Ryoko begins leading Blade down the hall.
Ryoko: You seem more heated than usual. Everything good?
Blade: Just idiots messing up with shipments. I'm getting it
handled.
Ryoko: I hope so. Lord Dovelthain will have your ass if anything
goes sideways.
Blade: growls I know. sighs softly Anyway, what seems to be the
problem?
Ryoko: Well, it's best to just show it to you.
Ryoko goes over to the end of the hall to the living room. Once
she opens the door, she reveals Demitri Maximoff sitting on the
couch, waiting patiently while drinking blood from a red wine
glass.
Blade: Demitri Maximoff?
Demitri: In the flesh. A pleasure to meet you, Abaki Hazeldine.
Ryoko: I also called in Lord Dovelthain and told him about Mr.
Maximoff. He'll be here soon as well.
Blade: Wait, what for?
Ryoko: He's here to make an alliance.
Blade: Wait, what?!
Demitri: Of course. I have been planning on trying to challenge
Zeruru Aensland soon, despite being only at 80% of my power. But
Miss Ryoko here has informed me about what recently transpired
in Makai during both of our time being exiled.
Blade: Yes. We weren't happy about the situation that has
transpired. Unfortunately, we couldn't do much against Morrigan
Aensland and Kanna Darkfire. All that for a damn human...
Ryoko: That's not all. There's more to that brat than we
thought.
Blade: What?
Demitri: I have encountered a group of humans not too long ago
in Serbia. A special ops military group. My servants were
getting slaughtered despite taking down some of their members so
I intervened. One human manage to be stronger than most. Despite
my superior power, the soldier manage to fend me off. What made
things interesting is that she's no ordinary human. Her soul
seems... stronger than most. Darker. Whatever power she had gave
her the strength to wound me momentarily and fled.
Ryoko: Blade... hands him a photo She's just like that brat.
Blade looks at a photo of Maya Zolnerowich, and immediately put
two and two together
Blade: That girl must be the older sister of the one you grabbed
from the market... making both of them descendent to some Makai.
But which one?
Ryoko: That we don't know.
Blade: And the soldier?
Demitri: My servants are hunting her down as we speak. She's
smart... and resourceful. But she can't run forever. I ordered
them to capture her alive and bring her back to my castle.
Abaki, you and your clan both know that our home is falling
apart. And we've taken more than enough of this realm's cesspool
of inferior race, believing to be the dominant race. I'm also
planning on getting another ally who has also been exiled by
Radu to help us. Together, we should be able to take back Makai
and later on dominate this realm.
Ryoko: I agree. But first, we need to deal with those brats. The
fact that brat manage to escape you and the younger one managed
to find and get into Makai says that they might be a future
problem if we leave them be. We also need to figure out who's
their ancestor. If it's someone extremely powerful, then it's
gonna bite us in the ass.
As Ryoko talks, a Hazeldine servant pours some blood for both
Ryoko and Blade along with refilling Demitri's glass. The
servant then gives it to the two, bows and walks back to the
wine table.
Blade: Mr. Maximoff's men should be able to get the older one.
The younger one is gonna be more difficult. But we'll figure
things out. Together.
Demitri: For our future of Makai. raise his glass
Blade and Ryoko: For our future of Makai.
The three clink their glasses together before taking a sip.
