Man Drowns during Baptism

How can this happen? Pastor charged after man drowned during
baptism
HTML https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cvg3kx8r139o
The article says he had Parkinson's, but I wouldn't think that
would be a factor. I'd like to know how much he weighed too.
Was the pastor who is 48 unaccustomed to performing baptisms?
The pastor is a woman, but I'd hope she wouldn't attempt
baptisms if not strong enough.
I found a video from 2023 of a woman with Parkison's being
baptized in London, but that was in an indoor pool and her head
didn't go that far under the surface of the water, and she was
under for only a moment. ‘Jesus always wins’: Pastors celebrate
baptism of 77-year-old woman with Parkinson’s
HTML https://www.christianpost.com/news/pastors-celebrate-baptism-of-77-year-old-woman-with-parkinsons.html
The BBC says the pool the man drowned in was a small one, so
it's a mystery. I was told to hold my nose closed too -- and I
couldn't see the 77 year old woman's nose to see if she was
holding it closed. If you don't inhale, you'd be fine; so I
wonder if the man in Birmingham inhaled sharply when he went
under. An outdoor pool could have been cold. Could that have
been a factor? That cold water gasp can happen if the water is
under 59 degrees F or 15 degrees C. I'd wager it was since the
nights there are still rather cold.

Hi Kerry
I have never heard this story , and it is a weird one. It says
it was negligence manslaughter, so it must mean that safeguards
of some kind were not taken. Normally a pool is not that deep
and most people can stand up on their own in the water. Also
there are usually other people at a baptism but surely if
someone slipped others would have helped. Unless the pastor was
doing the baptism alone and live-streaming it to the church,
this would make sense of why only the pastor is being charged,
why it’s neglect and why perhaps she couldn’t lift him from the
water. A bit of a mysterious one though !

Rita,
Is it common practice in the UK to tell the person being
baptised to hold his nose shut? I can't think of much else that
would constitute gross negligence.
At any rate, the poor man died baptised. May he rest then, his
labors over.

Yes I know it use to be when I was baptised. It was also common
practice to have two people in the pool with you. The man had
already been baptised but wanted to experience it again as a
born again believer. I am still at a loss as to how it happened.
I saw a report this morning where it showed the pastor and
explained it was a child’s training pool, and that the man had
Parkinson’s but it doesn’t say ‘ how ‘ he drowned or if others
were there.

I must admit my old nature had a chuckle on the churches name
'Life Changing Ministries'
Living by the sea, we had all the water needed for water
baptisms.
Greetings one and all, it was Helens 84th last week, so my
daughter and hubby came up from Spokane, so it was Black Forest
cake with family and a couple of friends. :) :) :)
Walked to our old house yesterday, and saw a U-haul outside a
Bro's house in the street, to learn that he had had a stroke and
passed over, that was a bit of a shocker, three of us used to go
for the occasional coffee together. I shall have to pop by and
see his mate who lives three doors up, especially as he lives on
his own and they were more mates than I was.
Sometimes I wonder where we actually are in 'Gods timeline', the
fluctuating world scene seems to point only to that 'everyman's
a liar', and modern governments have forgotten they are supposed
to be "Public Servants"
That sometimes makes, render unto 'Caesar what is caesars' not
always joyful imho.
Well my day is at hand, so I must put my hand joyfully to
something. ;D ;D ;D

He wanted to be baptised again? Now I'm not sure he made it
safely to Paradise. I agree with the Catholics and others about
rebaptism being a sin against the Holy Spirit. That is not the
same as blasphemy against the Holy Spirit; but it is a sin which
needs to be repented of. This man died with no such
opportunity. Since I believe people can repent after the death
of the body, I will be praying for this man. The pastor also
needs praying for and probably the entire congregation.
if you received the Spirit by being baptised and then doubt it,
what happened? I think out faith in God should be stronger than
how we feel emotionally. Paul, it is said, rebaptixed people;
but they were people who had been baptised by John the Baptist,
and Paul felt they needed to be baptised in the name of Jesus.
Paul confuses me again: That would mean Jesus hadn't been
baptised right and neither had the disciples.

I was baptised in a creek that was close to where my paternal
grandparents lived.

It mentions that he wanted to be baptised because he was now
born again, this to me means that his first baptism may well
have been as a child or maybe a baptism that was more a blessing
than fully emerged in water. So I think it depends on the
definition and wording in the report.
I was christened as a baby in the Church of England , but I was
baptised when I came to faith. I felt as if I had received the
Holy Spirit before that event , not during !
To me the baptism was a symbolic event and public witness , and
an act of obedience to scripture.

Rita in the early '70's there was a surge called 'Jesus only'
and saints got re-baptised into the name of 'Jesus only' verses
Father,Son and Holy Ghost which was the standard prayer. My
friend an ex Elim pastor, he and his wife went to Chard and went
through water baptism again.
But as it is the same 'old man' dying under and the 'new man'
rising up how much relevance is the name but Paul still 'fessis
up that he still had to die daily. Maybe it's more of an
obedience action.
And John the B't still saw his need concerning Jesus.
The Jews have always had a form of water baptism for
purification.
Water baptism is not the requirement for a paradise entry, a
heart belief in Him is all that is required.
That's why Jesus said to the thief 'this day' to him.
Water Baptism is an outward testimony of ones faith in Him.
