       Manchester Attack
By: Kerry Date: October 2, 2025, 9:26 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
How sad that troubles abroad are affecting the UK. I ran across
       the story at the BBC.
Starmer 'appalled' by Manchester attack on Jewish holy day
  HTML https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/czrpxgk6x68o
       Obviously, the attacker was either anti-Israel or anti-Jewish;
but how does this help the Palestinian cause? If anything,
attacks like this, if carried out by Palestinians or Arabs, are
likely to make the British people regret allowing Palestinians
       to live in the UK.

Details are still emerging. According to The Telegraph
  HTML https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/10/02/manchester-synagogue-stabbing-police/,<br
/>the attacker may have had a bomb. Bravery on the part of
security and some members of the synagogue prevented him from
       entering the synagogue.
A photograph earlier emerged of the terrorist wearing what
appears to be a bullet proof vest and a possible bomb.
It is not clear if the device strapped to him was a viable
explosive device but a bomb disposal unit was sent to the scene.
Two firearms officers were seen on social media footage
surrounding a man on the ground, shouting at members of the
public to “get back, he has got a bomb”.
Moments later, the terrorist attempted to get to his feet before
officers shouted a warning and gun shots rang out.

They thought he had a bomb but in the end it wasn’t anything
that would detinate, they think he was wearing it for effect, to
inflict fear. They have arrested three other people in
connection to what has happened, and now named the attacker as a
British citizen with Syrian decent. It’s likely that it was in
retaliation for what is going on in Gaza.
The actual area in Manchester is a mixture of Jewish and Muslim
residents, but apparently they all get on really well, so the
attack there has come with some surprise. The Jewish communities
in general though have feared something like this would happen
       eventually.
Thankfully a member of the public reported the attack really
quickly and the people inside the synagogue locked themselves
inside, so some lives were protected.
Awful, and sad but I was equally saddened by the attack on the
Mormon church in Michigan at the weekend.

We have had issues with bombs , the last one was at the
Manchester arena at the Ariana Grand concert - the terrorists
find ways to make home made ones. Not sure if the government can
keep a track on all products brought

There are many over here who don’t agree with what Israel is
doing , I am one of them I equally know that many Jewish people
are not in agreement with what is going on. It’s the old problem
of getting at innocent people in order to satisfy some kind of
anger. Sadly, I heard yesterday that the Jewish people have been
coming under verbal attack ect for some years. That equally
happens the other way round as well, my sons best friend is from
the Middle East, so he looks like a Muslim, and that’s all it
takes for abuse to take place. He is not a Muslim and is such a
       nice guy

Hmmm , it does, but as Manchester has two teams it can cause
rivalry of a different kind and we do still have football
       hooligans and trouble makers

It did make your comments quite small. I don't mind if you just
reply without separate quotes. It's easier that way for me too
to use paragraphs to indicate a change of subject.
Hooliganism is a problem; but I don't think it's racist, thank
       goodness.
The man in Michigan had considered becoming a Mormon once. He
had dated a Mormon woman. My guess is she said she wouldn't
marry him if he didn't convert.
He had a wife and children. What are they going to do? A
Mormon asked himself that, went online and has raised over
       $300,000 so far them.

Asked why he set up the account for the family of a man who
targeted members of his faith, the 53-year-old Butler told ABC
News in a phone interview on Thursday, "It was actually pretty
       simple."
"Jesus tells us that we should do this. We should love our
enemies, that we should mourn with those that mourn, that we
should care for the widow and the orphan," said Butler, a lawyer
and author of fantasy and science fiction books.
The Mormons have some strange beliefs; and I have mixed feelings
about their leaders; but the Mormons I have known were very
nice, decent people. They're doing something right.
It might be an idea for Jews in Manchester to consider. Did the
attacker have a wife and children? If so, having Jews help
provide for them might curb the antisemitism.

       Hi Kerry
My teen idols were The Osmonds, and for awhile I went to a
Mormon church. I know there beliefs are a bit weird. My
favourite Osmond album was called ‘ The Plan ‘ and they wrote it
themselves, but it was the story of their faith. I have always
found them all, and the Mormons I encounter now, to be polite
and genuinely good people. However I have watch a few
documentaries of certain ‘ cults ‘ within the church that cross
lines with marriage and peadaphilia .
I read a testimony of a Mormon missionary who started to
question his faith and eventually came to faith in Christ. He
questioned the whole hierarchy within the church.
So, like you, I have mixed views.
There hasn’t been too much issued about the attacker, other than
his family have relayed that they did not agree with what he had
done. It doesn’t state if it was parents, siblings or children,
just states ‘ his family ‘.
Locally the security at our local synagogue has been issued
protective jackets ( in case of a knife attack ) My sons best
friends step father is one of security guards there.
I think the next few days/ weeks will determine which way this
is all going to go , with regards to reactions.

       Hi Rita,
More things are being discovered about the Manchester attacker
       and his family.
He was out on bail on alleged rape charges according to The
       Guardian
  HTML https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/oct/03/manchester-synagogue-terrorist-was-on-bail-for-alleged.<br
/> A comment from his father is in that story as well.
       The attacker’s father, Faraj al-Shamie, described Thursday’s
terror attack as a “heinous act, which targeted peaceful,
innocent civilians” in a statement in which he said his family
wished to “fully distance” themselves from the atrocity.
It was later reported that Faraj al-Shamie – who has worked as
an emergency trauma surgeon for several non-governmental
organisations in conflict zones including South Sudan,
Afghanistan and Mali – had previously posted on his Facebook
page in support of the 7 October attacks on Israel, claiming
they had been perpetrated by “men of God on Earth” and
describing the attacks as a “miracle by all standards”.
       The NY Post

       Hi Kerry,
Yes, heard about him being out on bail, not sure about the
father thing as it came up on Facebook and that could be AI or
fake news - it’s not come through on any news outlets - so I
keep an open mind on that aspect of ‘ News ‘ as not sure of its
       source.
They have protest marches today, against what is happening in
Gaza. They tried to stop them out of respect, but they have gone
       ahead.

I tend to trust what I read in the Guardian. So when they
covered it, I figured it was probably true. I think it's true
his father posted some nasty inflammatory words on Facebook.
  HTML https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/oct/03/manchester-synagogue-terrorist-was-on-bail-for-alleged<br
/> Then there's the question if he sent a death threat when he w
       as
sixteen to someone running for Parliament. That's also in the
       Guardian article.
Let's hope the protest marches are peaceful. I expect they will
       be.
Have you ever noticed how most terrorists are men? I'm sure you
have; and very few of them are in marriages with happy wives. I
tend not to trust the judgment of men in marriages with unhappy
wives. If the men want to be the boss, they should know how to
make their wives happy. But politics is full of men with
unhappy or broken marriages -- they can't produce peace in their
own households so why trust them to do what is best for us? We
used to have a Leader of the Senate who didn't divorce his wife
-- I think she lived in their basement -- but when he needed her
to attend some function, she'd dress up and play the happy wife.
It made good photos; but everyone in Washington knew it was a
       fraud.
