       Permission
By: Pat Date: July 24, 2025, 11:26 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
The other day I was thinking about how we unconsciously refuse
to give ourselves permission for certain things. With Ray it
was to allow himself treats. He only ever ate when he was
hungry and wasn't a one for biscuits, crisps or chocolate or
having a glass of beer with a meal or on a warm afternoon.
With me I've realised I have held back permission to myself to
spend money on me. For many years I dressed in clothes bought
at charity shops and felt guilty if I bought anything new. Even
for things I needed for the house I looked in the charity shops
first. But I have now freed myself up and after all these years
I no longer feel bad about what I spend on myself. I still look
out for discounts and bargains though.
It just got me wondering if other people have the same
       'problem'.

!'ve certainly got to the stage where I no longer worry about
robbing the 'rainy day' savings account, on the basis that I
would resent having to take any remnant with me in my coffin.

Pat, I’m an addicted Thrift store browser . Not only because I
find what I want , but I like the “hunt for treasures “.
My girls have given me money often for birthdays or Mother’s Day
etc and I’ve gone shopping in regular store …only to come home a
couple of hours later with no purchases at all!! I find the new
stuff boring , or wrong colour season or something…and I just
       don’t buy it!
To me thrifting is a fun time , love it!
As for permissions ..I’m working on not bowing down and saying
what is expected from me. I don’t like it when I have to answer
‘correctly’ instead of ‘being me’ and being honest in my answer
       .
( talking family here ) at 83 I feel that I should be able to
say what’s in my heart , not smile nod and say what’s expected.
I’ve given myself the permission , I just need to get brave
       enough to actually do it!
( it’s the anticipation of a black thundery look , when the
‘right’ answer isn’t give..and not wanting to rock that boat. )
       Work in progress….

Pat I read an interesting statement by Patricia Routledge on her
       reaching her 90's.
She said growing older is not the closing act, it can be the
most exquiste chapter= 'if' you let yourself
       'bloom' again.
Sounds like you are already "Blooming" again. ;) ;) ;)

Yep, shaking off the shackles seems to be a welcome freedom in
our latter years. I liked reading your replies.
