Re: Pat's Corner

The forecast is for very hot weather for the next five or six
days. Today it's pleasant 21C so I have begun to take the
necessary measures to keep my home as cool as possible as the
temp is supposed to get up to 31C which is unheard of here in
the north west of England.
The first couple of days I don't find too bad but as the night
time temps get higher so the inside temps take longer to cool
down it's harder too keep cool during the day. But like I said
this time I am starting early to keep the sun and warm air out.
It probably gets even warmer in the south where Rita is. many
people like it but I have seen government warnings online to
keep curtains and windows shut.
It sounds as if you don't have any air conditioning.
Have you thought about buying an air conditioner the kind you
put in a window? I couldn't afford to get a central air
conditioning system; but I have two window ones upstairs. I
don't know how that would work for you; but since my roommate
and I spend most of our time upstairs in our bedrooms, it's fine
for me. I leave the door of my bedroom open so the cool air goes
downstairs too, keeping the downstairs reasonably cool.
Like you, I keep my windows shut. I also keep the curtains drawn
to prevent the sunshine from coming into the rooms. I've read
there are window blinds that reflect most heat, but I don't know
much about them. I think some of them help keep heat inside in
the winter as well as outside in the summer.

What type of windows will an AC unit fit? I'm not sure my
windows would be suitable.

Pat are your windows opening out ones or the up down type?
I went on UK window A C's and they start at 100 pounds and up
installed.
I see Dave asked what type of windows you have. Mine
are the kind that go up and down. The air conditioners have
pieces which are attached and which slide back and forth so they
can fit a variety of widths. The first air conditioner I had
had paper filters -- I think they're called HEPA filters. I had
to change them annually, so that meant remembering to buy them.
I prefer the kind I have now which have metallic screens for
filters which I can clean simply by rinsing them off under the
faucet. I think it saves money; and I don't have to keep
shopping for them.

Having someone install them might help. I'm not sure how much
they weigh and was wondering if Pat could lift them. I hate
doing that so much, I leave them in the windows over winter and
cover them up with a blanket and curtains.
Have you and Helen heard from Mike? It's been a while since he
posted. I hope he's okay what with all the high temperatures in
England lately.

Today I have my air purifier switched on and it cools the room
slightly but I've also got a large pillar fan which I can use if
it gets unbearable which is usually about 24C - top 70s F I
think that is. We're really not used to such high temps. And
there are health warnings now about how this hot weather can
adversely affect certain medicines and even cause cancer in such
hot conditions. Who knew!

Unfortunately Pat by the sound of it your windows are not the
easiest type to fit a window A C into.
I'm sure it can be done but I'm sure it would be costly to do,
and how do you know when the next heat wave might come LoL.
Kerry I was wondering too about Mike and Christine and Rita and
Dan with the Temp's as they are.
It's a murky one here but better for the animals at the rodeo
today.
Well have to toddle off, my Tennessee mate mailed me some
letters to post for him here in Canada, they took all of three
weeks to get here, he has pots of money but still had some
un-used Canadian stamps, maybe that's why he has pots of money
;) ;) ;) .

The weather patterns are crazy. I felt sorry for the people in
Texas with ridiculous weather floods they’d never seen before
..deaths etc poor people . But as for the world leaders I have
no time for them. I read yesterday that Texas spent $2,000,000
on “salting “ the clouds with chemicals and things , so that
they could not have draught!! It obviously backfired . I had no
idea that almost all countries pour stuff into the air and try
and change weather patterns!! ( and then they say “ how come
there is so much cancer in the world” )
Who knows , maybe over there the scientists have been messing
about …all countries do it… hence your high heat’s .
And then, when floods or whatever come , they expect the
governments to step in and pay for the rescue , clean up , snd
rebuilding.
I notice that in USA some of the States are trying to get the
weather controlling banned.
“ Stop the world ….”
