Is anybody else a Jane Austen fan? I have always loved her
works either in print or on film. There is a brilliant series
on BBC at the moment called Jane Austen, the rise of a genius.
Well worth watching

Yes indeed , I love hers and have read all the books and seen
all (and have )most of the movies. Thanks for the heads up ..we
will watch for it coming to our area .
I’ve read a few of the other books written by others like like
Death at Pemberry etc , but I usually skim them , none can
write like she did

I watched Death Comes to Pemberley which was quite good, and
also a book called The Other Bennett Sister about what happens
to Mary which I also enjoyed. I think the film version will be
on TV soon.

Our town ia hosting the Ironman contest today and our road is
closed for part of the cycle part of the race. It's been very
quiet with only the cyclists and the occasional motorbike
stewards going up.
I decided to have a cosy pyjama day today as nobody will come
and the words of You Raise Me Up are in my head. I want this at
my funeral.
When I am down
And, oh, my soul, so weary
When troubles come
And my heart burdened be
Then, I am still and wait here
In the silence
Until you come
And sit awhile with me

Agree , it is a lovely song with a prefect melody .
I want the old hymn - “ It is well with my soul “.
Beautiful day here again , thankfully not a lot of wind …but
we do have a lot of smoke from the Forrest fires . Some years
it totally ruins summer .
They tell us that most of the ( Alberta along has over 40. ) are
set deliberately by environmental fanatics , wanting us to all
believe that the fires are because of “ the global warming “
hoax .
But over in the next province Saskatchewan, they caught and
charged three people in the act of setting fire to the forest.
How cruel and sad for all the wildlife . And 75 families had to
be evacuated from the area .
While the fat-cat environmentalists , pay idiots like these to
set fires all over Canada ( probably USA too -
[member=14]Kerry[/member] ?)
Sad days …
Sorry for rambling on so long on your thread Pat . x

I read Alberta has lots of fires being started by humans, some
by accident like throwing out a lit cigarette and some on
purpose. The dry hot weather makes things worse, of course, as
well as fallen debris. Why would environmentalists want to burn
a forest? If they're really environmentalists, why don't they
pay people to clean up fallen debris that can become a fire
hazard? That would be a next to impossible task considering the
size of the area. I'd guess some other motives for the
arsonists. Smoke from those fires have reached the northern
part of Pennsylvania but I haven't seen it here in the south
central part.

THE SIMPLICITY OF CHRISTIANITY
12 June 2025
15:26
My devotional this morning was about God calling Abraham to go
to a place he didn't know. But what struck me is that although
Abraham didn't know where he was going he knew the One who was
sending him. It sounded so simple.
And for some reason this set me to thinking about The simplicity
of Christianity.
We don't need rules, regs or rituals to follow or adhere to
because we simply need to follow God's Son Jesus and live our
lives with Him at the centre, the Lynchpin and living as he
taught us to live. It's as simple as that.
It's more than just knowing about God, it's about having a one
to one personal relationship with Him through Jesus. It's
about coming to Him when we are broken and in need and letting
him into our lives to love us and guide us. It's about knowing
our sin is forgiven and that we are free from the consequences
of our sin, It's about knowing that we are made new.
I have found that there are so many people who make it so
complicated that they miss out on the best part which is having
that close relationship with God our Heavenly Father.

Agree Pat.
We do seem to have complicated things along the way .
My friend Mary ( who died ) had a simple faith. She never
seemed stressed .
If I’d say- “What do you think - blah blah means? …” …and she
would answer.
“Oh I don’t think, I just keep hanging tight to his hand.”
When she got the colon cancer diagnosis I asked if she
worried about the end bit.
She said - “ No, I’ve been walking with Him since I was 4 …so
I know He will take me all the way home…”
I never saw her simple faith falter in 25 yrs

2 Cor 11:3 tell us" But I fear lest by 'any means', as the
serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should
be corrupted
from the simplicity that is in Christ"
I once read that the "more subtle than any---" could be likened
to a spider building it's web for entrapment, it may not be true
but was good for preaching because Eve was no dummy.
We as God's people can see the corruption of minds in the world
but Paul is addressing the most gifted christian fellowship at
that time.
So what was the danger that could corrupt their minds from the
'simplicity' of Christ and is there the same relevance for His
church today?

I'm reminded of a Shaker song. Here's Judy Collins singing
"Simple Gifts."
