Mike's Corner
By: Mike Waters Date: July 25, 2023, 10:18 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
New every morning is the love
Our wakening and uprising prove,
Through sleep and darkness safely brought,
Restored to life and power and thought.
New mercies, each returning day,
Hover around us while we pray,
New perils past, new sins forgiven,
New thoughts of God, new hopes of heaven.
If, on our daily course, our mind
Be set to hallow all we find,
New treasures still, of countless price,
God will provide for sacrifice.
The trivial round, the common task,
Will furnish all we ought to ask,
Room to deny ourselves, a road
To bring us daily nearer God.
Only, O Lord, in Thy dear love,
Fit us for perfect rest above,
And help us, this and every day,
To live more nearly as we pray.

Lovely words , I’m presuming is a hymn . Not familial with it .

Helen, I love the words of early church hymns. Near to me
there's a sleepy little village, down in a valley, with a church
which has had its bells automated to play the notes of a similar
ancient church hymn on an hourly chime.
The chime echoes out eerily across the surrounding hillsides.
Here are the words of that Hymn

His wonders to perform:
He plants His footsteps in the sea,
And rides upon the storm.
2
Deep in unfathomable mines
Of never-failing skill,
He treasures up His bright designs,
And works His sovereign will.
3
Ye fearful saints, fresh courage take;
The clouds ye so much dread
Are big with mercy, and shall break
In blessings on your head.
4
Judge not the Lord by feeble sense,
But trust Him for His grace;
Behind a frowning providence
He hides a smiling face.
5
His purposes will ripen fast,
Unfolding every hour:
The bud may have a bitter taste,
But sweet will be the flower.
6
Blind unbelief is sure to err,
And scan His work in vain;
God is His own Interpreter,
And He will make it plain.

Oh how lovely , you description of the church in the valley
sounds amazing .
Now “ God moves in a mysterious way..” I am very familiar with ,
first heard it in a tiny Methodist chapel, where my dad used to
preach.
Happy memories .
I can still see my old dad now, sitting at the old pump organ
playing the song -
“There’s a light upon the mountain and the day is at the dawn…”
Did you sing that one? Very moving…
So often in those days the ‘message’ was just as important
within the hymns , as it was from the pastor .

Nancy, Helen, Amadeus, and Rita.
I'm back in bed having tired myself out, doing the dish washing,
baking a cake, and tidying up in readiness for the cleaner (LoL)
who comes early tomorrow morning.
But my life is relatively completed by now being able to settle
back, read your posts, and thank you all for keeping the 'home
fire of my heart' burning.
May God bless you all, whether you are up on the mountain top,
or down in the valley.

Rest well, Mike. The forum seems nicely sorted out. It's very
hot here, with thick humidity. I'm waiting for dark to begin my
outdoor chores. I seem to have little heat tolerance these
days.

Is only a bit
after 4 pm, in Nebraska. Veggie gardens are thirsty after a
long day of unrelenting
sun!

Thanks Nancy, a quote seems to be lurking in the back of my mind
"Rest (or is it Joy) cometh in the morning"
