       Unimog 404.1 Ambulance for sale
By: mrmarkynose Date: March 17, 2013, 7:25 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
       NOW SOLD!!!!
       Hi all!
It's time for our lovely ambulance to be off.
She is a 1969 Mercedes Unimog 404.1 Ambulance. She is ex Belgian
army and is completely original with all stretchers and benches
still included. She only has about 6000 miles on the clock and
was inported and registered in the UK about 4 years ago. She was
shown at the Goodwood Revival and a few other places and then we
bought her 2 years ago for travelling.
She would make an ideal vehicle for shows or overland
expeditions or just playing around on weekends. The ambulance
box is 3mx2m and so can easily be converted to a camper. You
could do this without damaging the original interior by using
the rails that run the length of the sides and ceiling that
would have been used for hanging medical stuff.
She has 6 forward gears (2 of which are low ratio - you start in
3rd on the road) and 2 reverse. Selectable 4x4, diff locks all
round, everything can be selected while on the move. Portal
axles give Unimogs much higher ground clearance than other 4x4s
and a flexible chassis and coil springs mean they can trundle
along over almost anything - have a look at unimog 404s on
youtube. But then, if you're looking at this site then you
       probably know all that!
She has a 2.2L low compression petrol engine that starts easily,
can run on low octane fuel, and gives 59mph. The engine is very
similar to lots of old mercedes cars so parts are easy to find
around the world and you could fit the high compression head or
the 2.8L if you want a bit more power. The chassis can take
almost 2 tonnes off road so you could also fit LPG if you want
to cut down on fuel costs without worrying too much about
overloading her. She isn't perfect with bits of rust which could
do with sorting (you can see these in the pictures on the
website) but the box is mainly aluminium and the chassis just
needs taking back a bit and repainting if you want to get rid of
       the surface rust.
I've fitted a brake servo as my girlfriend is smaller than the
average Belgian soldier, (some had originally air over
hydraulic, some a brake servo and some neither) but that has
started leaking from a seal, so either needs overhauling or
taking back out again for her MOT which has now lapsed due to
this. She is stored 1.5 hours away from where I live so it's a
bit difficult for me to sort this out at the moment. This also
means that the photos I took before looking at this site don't
have my username etc. on a peice of paper - sorry moderator!
I'll find one with a picture of my small lady so you know what
       we look like?!
We have made a blogspot website with lots more information and
       pictures which is at unimogforsale.blogspot.co.uk
If you type unimog 404.1 ambulance for sale into google it
       should appear..
       Thanks very much for looking,
       Egg and Marcus

       Hi Egg and Marcus :)
in this case i'll let you off, with it being so far away, but if
you have a friend near your unimog or somebody you know, it
would be great if you could get them to take a picture :) i
would also ask that in this situation the buyer collects or
views before buying, and if you could put your location that
would be great, it can just be your county if you like.
good luck with the sale :)
       cheers, Brian

       Hi Brian,
Thanks for that, to be honest, with the amount of scammers we've
had from other sites where she's for sale, I'm starting to think
that I would insist on the buyer actually coming to look at her
before buying anyway! Also she's not insured at the moment
because Footman James won't insure her fire and theft only
unless she's under cover, well, shes a bit big for a garage,
though she would fit in the warehouse if i could convince my
brother and dad to move their (slightly less complete!)projects
outside. So lets just say for the moment that she's in North
Somerset, and anyone is welcome to come to view her once they've
got in touch and sound more interested in Unimogs than obscure
       methods of payment!
We'll be very sorry to see her go, but she must be off..
       Thanks again,
       Marcus

       Hi Marcus and Egg
I just joined this forum, having lots of fun with Ursula, mainly
been flying round the country roads with the roof down. Gonna
try some off roading in the coming weeks.
       Ben
