       Door-to-door greediness
By: Muffet Date: February 5, 2017, 9:11 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Well, I can't say I wasn't somewhat disappointed in myself, at
the very least. Nevertheless, if it brought in more money than I
was currently receiving by running my bakery, I suppose I wasn't
complaining. You see, I had recently picked up a tape on
something called 'Girl Guides', and it demonstrated the method
of going door-to-door to sell a product- As well as acting cute
while doing it. I figured I might as well try the method out for
at LEAST one day, to see how effective it was- Lucky for me, I
still didn't quite look old enough to be considered something
other than a child- Or, well, I still looked 'Cute', given the
right outfit. All spiders were small, anyways, and I was no
exception- I stood at an unimpressive 5 feet. So I was
definitely small enough to be adorable.
I had put on something a bit different from my usual outfit for
this particular endeavor, opting for a somewhat-short frilly
skirt and shirt combo, with a few of the usual bows in my hair-
It was all different shades of blue that complemented each other
particularly well, in my opinion at the very least. I was
looking in a mirror for a few minutes back at the bakery
perfecting the art of the cute face- And I finally had it down
to the last detail. I knew just what to do- Widen the eyes,
smile, put my uppermost hands on my cheeks, and remember to hide
my fangs... It was a bit taxing to do for long, but I didn't
have to. I just had to keep my eyes wide- The full face was just
to melt their hearts for a little while, and then I could stop
trying THAT hard for the rest of the conversation.
I had an envelope and clipboard with an order form on it with
me, as well as a few other things to occupy my other hands, as
per usual- Along with that infernal puzzle cube. I still hadn't
come CLOSE to solving it in all the time that I'd been fiddling
with it. But I would solve it eventually. Traveling through the
streets of New Home, I had already gone to most of the rich
households- And as if to prove my point, it had worked
spectacularly. I was already beating my standard daily profits
by approximately 43%. But this next house was a bit of a
stretch- I was going to knock on King Asgore's door... The King
of all Monsters. If anybody was capable of spending a lot of
money, it would be him. And I had heard that he was a kind old
Boss Monster, too- I should have no trouble convincing him to
buy a few things from me if I kept employing my current
       strategy...
I had finally reached his home. After taking a deep breath, I
put the puzzles that I was fiddling with away, straightened my
outfit one last time, and raised up one of my many hands to
knock on the door- And then I waited, putting on the cute face
that I had spent some time perfecting earlier. My mind was
running through what I would say when he answered, just so I was
       prepared...

The Doctor had returned...with a new friend only to disappear
again to fix the core. "Oh well catching up can come later." I
stared down at the golden buttercups that covered the floors in
their lovely form. It truly was-no considerably nice to have
them in my throne room. Despite the silence I loved watering an
nurturing these flowers. They're the only things I can protect
properly these days. They'll never leave me like Toriel did and
best of all since there is no winter here- they'll never die.
They won't die and leave me behind like my- let's leave that
thought to rest. An old king such as I shouldn't dwell on the
past. My soul can only take so much at a time. Monster children
are coming up missing, strange rumblings, newcomers seeming to
spawn completely out of nowhere! It wasn't maddening but the
scale was starting to tip dreadfully close to it. I stood from
my throne to head back into my old house. The one I used to
share with...others. I shook my head trying to remove them from
my thoughts but it was impossible. They left an imprint on my
       soul that couldn't be removed.
I scratched lightly at my neck feeling parched. Some tea always
did me well at times like this. My favorite tea was a brand
found in the dump. Surprise surprise. Alphys had found mass
amounts thrown down into the underground. I don't know why
anyone would throw such delicious tea away. Anyway I have a
variety of tea but right now I'd like to indulge myself in some
Earl Black tea. It was strong but with a cube of sugar strong
       and sweet.
I placed the old pot on the stove. I pulled open the fridge to
obtain the pitcher of water. I poured the water into the pot,
some splashing on the stove. I placed the water pitcher back
into the fridge and closed it. I then proceeded to clean up the
water and turn on the stove. I placed two bags of tea into the
pot and waited patiently for the water's color to become a dark
brown. Brown was such a lovely color. For tea anyway. I turned
off the eye on the stove and poured some tea into a small tea
cup. Tea was such a great addition to my life. I feel as if I'd
merely be a husk in my throne without it.
As I went back to sit down in said thrown there was a knock at
my door. I gave a soft sigh that was a lot louder than
intended...curse my large size- and made my way over, slowly
opening the large door. I looked around expecting Undyne or
someone else but as my eyes trailed down it was met with a small
spider lady. My brow twitched, of course not in annoyance but I
was having trouble recalling this Monster's name. I'm supposed
to know all of the Monster's names with the exception of the
newcomers who would have to be legalized as citizens of the
underground at some point. As of right now they were technically
illegals. Not that I'm one to banter on about such- oh....ooops.
"Hello there how can I help you...Muffet correct?" It would be
embarrassing if I had called her the wrong name. That's not very
kingly at all. I smiled sheepishly, teacup in hand, small tea
       plate in the other.

Finally, he answers the door. I was still putting on the cutest
face I possibly could, and my voice conveyed that too- A tad
higher than my usual, as well as a few idiosyncrasies that I had
tweaked over the past few house calls. It was close to what I
would speak like normally, while still being that much
different- But the King wouldn't be able to tell the difference,
now would he? I don't believe me and him had EVER spoken, and
the only reason he knew my name was because he knew EVERYBODY's
name... Right? He would have no evidence to point to the fact
that I was a somewhat greedy, middle-aged spider lady who runs a
bakery- Well, he might know my occupation, anyways. But that's
all. Mustering up my courage one last time, I began to run
       through my spiel...
"Hello mister Asgore! Would you like to order some Spider
Cookies? All proceeds go to helping the spiders in the Ruins
cross through Snowdin safely! They're only 30g for a package of
10- That, and they taste delicious. I have some samples here if
you want to have a taste before you buy..."
Gah, I told myself I would be confident in myself- I had been
nervous, and as such, I had to improvise a tad. My tone even
wavered slightly, as if I was intimidated- Which I was, to some
extent- I could've done that MUCH better, if I had the chance.
But I had already said what I had said- Might as well go along
with it now. A few of my hands moved to pull out a box of the
aforementioned Spider Cookies, of course, this was only a sample
batch- I hadn't actually made a bunch yet. That would come after
I knew exactly how much I needed, and only then would I start
to mass-bake them. A few more hands pulled out a pen and went to
the clipboard, searching for an open spot to write the order
down in... I eagerly looked up at King Fluffybuns, awaiting his
answer and reaction... using that, I could gauge how successful
I had been with the initial greeting, and improve for next time.

"Oh well then I'll take fifty of them if that's possible. My
cookie jar has been empty for quite some time. I could surely
use a refill." The small spider-lady was indeed Muffet. I was
grateful that my memory was jogged right at the last minute. "I
appreciate you coming by to offer such delicious snacks to an
old king. It warms my soul." He offered a genuine smile and
kneeled preparing to take the pen if he needed to sign anything.
"If you need any help bringing the cookies I'll gladly follow
you back to your bakery. The gold is stored in the treasury. You
might need a wagon to take it back wouldn't you?" He laughed
nervously. "Should I lessen my order? Is it possibly too much?"
He questioned an animated sweat drop appearing on the side of
       his head.

Fifty?!? If what I thought he just said was correct, that would
mean that he wanted no less than fifty packages- I had better
ask for clarification just to be sure. Now, usually I would have
been pushy and put down 50 packages anyways, even if he just
meant 50 cookies in total, but this was the king, after all- No
sense in ruining this opportunity. My mind instantly brought up
the price total, of course. It was just something I had trained
myself to do during my lifetime- And I was glad that I did, too.
"Thank you for your generosity! Now, just to make sure, do you
mean 50 cookies in total, or 50 packages of 10 each?... There's
a big difference between a total of 150g and 1,500g... But
either way, I'm sure I could do that. And don't worry about
delivery- My pet, Cupcake, is strong enough to carry it all, I'm
sure- Even if he might have to take more than one trip."
Offering my clipboard and pen to the Boss Monster with a joyful
expression on my face, it was quite obvious that this sort of
thing was exactly what I was hoping would happen. I gestured to
the next empty spot on the list, below several other rich
       monster names...
       "Just sign here, okay?"
Cupcake was, of course, the name of my giant pet spider
monstrosity- Big as a building, and stronger than almost any
monster in the underground, 'almost' being the key word here. I
had my doubts about his strength compared to Undyne... That fish
was EXCEEDINGLY strong. Rumor had it that there wasn't anything
       she couldn't Suplex...

Asgore accepted the pen and signed his name in royal cursive. A
trait he picked up from the Old Old king, his father. "I meant
       50 packages...hmm make that 60. I have a giant cookie jar that
needs filling and they would do as a nice side to tea for
guests." He handed her back the pen with a small smile, his
joints creaked when he stood back up a small grunt leaving him.
"Thank you again for coming by. I don't get many visitors. If
you ever need anything let me know. I'll be sure to inform you
of when I run out of cookies." I appreciate it- thank you very
       much."
"Sorry for the mix up I should have clarified."

"Well, that's FANTASTIC! I, and all of the other spiders,
       greatly appreciate your generous order. Now, that'll be 1,800g;
I'll pick it up from you when I'm bringing you the batch of
cookies. After all, I trust you not to go back on your word.
I'll get started baking your cookies as soon as I get back...
They should be delivered in two days, at the longest- But who
knows, I might get them all finished before the day is over..."
My fangs inadvertently showed themselves, sliding out from my
mouth in between my lips and gleaming ever-so-slightly...
Generally, they only came out when I was excited, and I was
definitely excited right now- So much MONEY... That alone would
be halfway to buying my own vehicle to transport the Ruins
spiders in, instead of hiring somebody else to do it- Of course,
I would need to learn how to drive first. That would be
       critical.
After acquiring the King's signature, I wrote down the amount
that he requested in my typical quick, somewhat legible
writing... With the gleam of profits still fresh in my eyes, I
went up to the old man, and without really thinking about it, I
gave him a quick hug with my many arms- I couldn't reach nearly
all the way around his waist, but that didn't stop me from
trying before I realized what I was doing, letting go and
walking off with one last 'thank you'.
Surely it wouldn't be anything TOO serious for me to have done
that. He'd probably just disregard it immediately- I just got
caught up in the moment is all. Nothing serious.

"It's no problem, you are very welcome." I smiled down at the
small spider-lady all thoughts of my painful past washing away
in that instant at the thought of receiving cookies. Two days
wasn't bad considering my big order. The fact that a possibility
to get everything finished today was magnificent. I enjoyed the
taste of cookies. Hard, soft, in between, gooey ohh how they
delighted me. Before I could go to stand Muffet wrapped her many
arms- well attempted to wrap her many arms around me in some
form of hug. I didn't get a chance to hug back since she pulled
       away.
I did get a small glimpse at two fangs protruding out of her
mouth and slightly past her lips. That was cute as well as the
hug. I sighed feeling a wave of stress release its hold on me.
Sometimes even an old king needed a hug every now and then and
without Toriel.... I finally stood up shoving down the thoughts
of my old wife. There was no need to think bout the past when
the present was as clear as day.
"You are quite welcome." I said again to the retreating Arachnid
turning on my heel after shutting the large doors to sit back in
my throne. I of course picked up my tea in which I had set down
to sign the small paper Muffet offered. Another sigh left me
feeling relaxed as I sipped my tea in silence. This silence much
       like my tea was sweet.

Practically skipping back to my bakery, I got the spiders
working as soon as I arrived, baking a tremendous amount of
cookies over the span of a few hours- At this rate, they'd still
be hot when they got back! Everything was moving in perfect
sync, every leg stepping in harmony, the ovens at just the right
temperature- Oh, total perfection. And I was conducting it all,
my many hands dictating what happened when- When I first started
being able to command the arachnids like this, it was such a
power trip... I could barely believe my own ability- Since then,
I'd like to think that I've gained a considerable amount of
self-control in that regard. Even now, I still felt a soft urge
to go and conquer something... I was able to resist it, of
course. After all, that sort of thing would get me in a whole
       lot of trouble very quickly.
I put it all out of my mind as I finally finished the last of
the orders, several hours after I started... Everybody should
still be up, at the very least. Cupcake was carrying all of the
finished product, of course, since that was about the only thing
I had that could transport that kind of weight. I set off for
New Home again, turning up at the King's house with the
still-warm cookies approximately a half an hour after I had left
the bakery- Only 6 hours had transpired since I first knocked on
this door, and here I was, about to do it again... I reached up
and knocked on the King's door once more...
"Mister Asgore? Your cookies are here!"
Cupcake, while still as big as a house, was happily growling and
grumbling in the yard, since he was far too big to be alongside
me... I did so hope that Asgore didn't see him as a threat. I
       had him trained quite well.

I gently took off my reading glasses at the knock on my doors
followed by a familiar voice. Muffet was back! That was indeed
quick! I pulled the wagon that held a large bag of gold in it,
and wheeled it over to the door. I pulled it open with a polite
smile. "It's nice to see you back as quick as you had
anticipated. Those smell absolutely delicious!" I beamed
grateful for her dedication not only to her work but to her
customers as a whole. The small fangs were still as cute as
       could be.
I pulled the wagon further out the door waving at her pet. It
was a nice looking creature. I found it oddly cute in a strange
way as well. Was that weird? Even if it was I was the king. No
one would question what I thought was cute or not. "I took the
time to carefully count out the gold. You may double check here
if you like. I am an honest king though I assure you."
