Re: A Warm Respite From The Cold (Open Scene)

Yuki smiled and nodded at the flame elemental's offer. "I'd
like that." she replied as she walked up to the counter and
purchased another cup of coffee, a latte this time as she sat
back down and continued the conversation. "And a TV star, you
say? It wouldn't hurt to become familiar with him then." she
replied, realizing that a lot of the time she spent alone, she
seemed to have missed quite a bit.
She then sipped from her latte and smiled. "I think what I like
the most about the Waterfall is just how peaceful it is. It puts
my Ki at ease being there. The tranquility of the rushing
water... And the falling waters adds some relaxation when I
meditate." she replied. She took another sip then continued
again. "But to be honest, I do miss associating with others,
which is why I decided the time has come to try to make friends
with the monsters here."

Not long later, the bell at the front door announced it's next
customer. A skeleton wearing his favourite blue jacket shuffled
in, stretching out his arms with a loud yawn in the process. As
usual, his signature smile was about his face as he leisurely
made his way to the front counter; not really paying much mind
to the monsters present in the busy cafe.
He then rested a right arm on the counter and his left hand
still buried in a pocket. He then casually knocked on the
counter twice with a rhythm reminiscent of a joke of
sorts, "Heya. I was just wondering if you
sell your coffee beans here?" he asked the employee
behind the counter.

In response to Fia shoving the pastry into her mouth, Yuki
chewed on what she could of it with her other free hand and
continued eating it. She seemed to genuinely enjoy the pastry.
Although she was rather confused at having the pastry randomly
shoved into her mouth, but she thought nothing of it as she was
eating it. "Oh my... This is really good!" Yuki exclaimed as
she swallowed the piece of the pastry. "I suppose this place
has a new regular." she said as she finished the pastry.
Yuki felt the shell she had built around herself for so long
starting to crack a little. Perhaps it was Fia and her bubbly
and fun loving personality that was helping, but the Kitsune
couldn't help but crack a faint smile, a change from her usually
serious and realistic demeanor.

Haldor smiled when Yuki came up and ordered the latte instead,
since that was a more common drink for most of the patrons to
enjoy, especially on such a cold, clear morning as Snowdin was
experiencing today, even with the intermittent gusts sending
flurries by the large window panes wrapping around the
building’s front. That transaction didn’t take long at all and
allowed the craggy elemental to return to some work with the
inventory he was doing under the counter.
When the door chimed again, the cafe owner took a couple of
extra moments to finish the count he was doing on an item before
rising from that crouch as the counter was knocked upon. His
expression was warm for the familiar sentry, half expecting to
prepare him a nice hot cup of tomato soup even though it was
unusually early for the skeleton to be anywhere near the
restaurant. Head tilted with obvious intrigue at the request
regarding the coffee beans. “Aye, we dae,” he drawled slowly,
leaning down over the counter to rest his weight on his
forearms. “But seein' as hoo ye don’t bevvy it, Ah am mighty
curioos fa it’s fur.” A thoughtful pause as he cogitated on that
for a moment. “Yer brither?” The lanky skeleton certainly did
come into the shop regularly between those patrols he did. “Ah
suppose yoo’ll be wantin' whit he likes 'en?”

Perhaps it was fate; perhaps it was the universe having a
chuckle; perhaps it was just sheer coincidence. Whatever the
case, the bell announcing the arrival and departure of patrons
from the cafe sang a low note as Zydras Azar ambled into the
cozy shop and out of the biting cold just behind a certain
vertically challenged skeleton. He was wearing a long, black,
wool trench coat with the collar flicked up over the back of his
neck against the cold; beneath it was a dark navy sweater over
what appeared to be a white cotton shirt; dark, slim fitting
jeans and ankle high black hiking boots completed the ensemble,
plus or minus some appropriate accessories to complete the
casual Saturday look the starfire elemental had going.
At least this time the monster had clothes on.
Having walked in just in time to hear Sans asking the owner
regarding those coffee beans, the scientist walked up quietly
behind the sentry, his expression one of amusement as his
cerulean eyes sparkled with more stars than usual, hands tucked
casually into the pockets of his calf-length coat. “So, the
past, the present, and the future walked into a cafe…” he began
in a lazy drawl, letting his hopefully now familiar voice fall
over his peer as he gave a suitably dramatic pause. “It was
tense.”

Finding himself idly listening to the newcomers in this café,
the winged monster once again heard the jingles of the front
door. Another person had arrived, and it was none other than...
'Aha. Sans. Now would he be here for beans or ketchup? Always a
tossup, this outcome.' Letting that thought idle, he left Sans
to his own business. 'Quite brave of him to already be out and
about the morning after such an intense situation. Especially
considering what might have happened.. I wonder..' He mused to
himself, taking another sip from his drink. As if right on time,
yet another had entered; Zydras. 'There he is. Good.'
Further thought would have been given to the topic, but
something else caught this man's attention. From the table
closest to his, the bubbly fire elemental had slid over and
nabbed the pot of sugar cubes from his table with a coy 'yoink',
followed by a shining, honest smile. "Wowzers, I think you've
got plenty sugar over there with a smile like that, eh?" He
chuckled, seeing no point in getting on her case for a bit of
fun, however cheeky it might have been to do what she did. If it
was done with a smile like that, what harm was there in it?
Perhaps strangely enough, the man found himself with a more
pronounced resting smile as opposed to an expression of
neutrality. Did such positivity rub off on him already..?
Soon enough, the Kitsune and the flame elemental would be having
a discussion about the local celebs of the underground. Mettaton
was cool and all, but despite everything he wasn't for everyone.
Seeing it as rude to suddenly interject, the winged monster
waited for a moment in their conversation to make himself known.
"Excuse me, ladies." He began, shifting his chair to a different
part of his table so that he could speak to both of them more
comfortably, but not barge in on their space completely without
permission. "I couldn't help but overhear some talk of local
celebrities... Now, Mettaton is all fine and dandy, but I can
name a fair few others deserving of attention. Do either of you
like music? Dark Requiem is quiiiite the band." The man looked
around for a second, as if to see who as listening. "I heard
their lead singer ate a black hole. Absolutely bonkers right?"

The Kitsune looked at the winged monster with interest. How long
had she been locked in her own little bubble to not know of such
a musical band? She thought for a moment, digesting what he had
just said. "A musician eating a black hole and not dying or
getting sucked into the void? " she asked. While she preferred
her traditional Japanese music, Yuki was certainly open minded
enough to give this band a chance. "Sounds like a rather
peculiar band if their frontman can do such a feat. "

The idea of peaceful thinking was now out of the water for Echo,
thanks to the gather of people talking, especially that fire
elemental. How could somebody be so extroverted? How was she so
willing to recite her autobiography to strangers who could
trample all over them like that? It was almost admirable, if she
wasn't so loud.
So her time she decided would be spent listening in on others'
conversations. She wouldn't make any input into them, of course.
Unless it was necessary, and by that she meant wrong.
Through sips of her long black she kept her ears alert, turning
her head around to see who, like her, found Waterfall more than
simply pleasant and secretly smiling in approval of their taste.
With it being her home since she lived, she did have more of an
attachment to it than most monsters. But that didn't mean she
would spit at others not knowing the true meaning of the
tranquility and soft glows that lingered there.
Then there was some stuff about celebrities, in which she would
immediately zone out from jealousy of their lifestyles. Sure,
most were deserving, but why were they spending all their money
for themselves and their 'benefits'? Money doesn't make
entertainment or any reputation other than snobbery and
unnecessary prestige they had with just the talent. True talent
uses skill, not money, to do better than best.
Besides, that money should be in her empty pockets and those
pockets of others like her.

Truth be told, Yuki didn't really care much for celebrities. She
was merely trying to keep the conversation going. She simply
preferred her simple life in the Waterfall. She fidgeted with
the pendant around her neck that was once the pendant she had
bought her love from before the war. She waited for the
conversation to continue as she held the pendant close to her
heart.

Lesser Dog watched Sans enter the
room, while continuing to drink her coffee. She waved hello to
the skeleton (who was technically also her coworker, unless
things had changed recently). Sans
was usually met with a certain degree of attention from other
people... evidently Espresso Yourself was more calm and
collected in that department. Still, as a fellow sentry, she
felt duty bound to ensure someone said hi, and none of the other
dogs were here to do it.
She could see Fia continuing to bubble with emotion and chatter,
but by now the regular fizzes and bangs were not spooking Lesser
Dog much; Lesser Dog had acclimatized to Fia's presence,
adaptability was important to any member of the Royal Guard.
Otherwise most of the things happening continued to just...
happen. Neither being of interest or of concern, honestly the
background noise was mostly merging together at this stage. The
only thing of real importance was her coffee cup, and its
contents...
