[hr]
The magically simulated sun hung over Snowdin Town,
approximately halfway through its climb toward zenith, to still
cast long shadows between the buildings and through the trees.
The clouds were sparse but puffy as they drifted across the high
cavern’s ceiling, only intermittently drifting across the
daystar to obscure it for brief periods, driven by the currently
mild breeze that now and then picked up into a lazy gust that
would send flurries frolicking along its eddies. All told, it
was a rather pleasant start to the weekend for the residents of
the winter villa, particularly after the earthquakes and power
outages that had plagued the Underground the night before.
Amid the hustle and bustle of various denizens roaming the
streets near downtown Snowdin, a rather tall alabaster vixen
waded her way through the sea of monsters. A long, ankle-length
black wool coat covered most of her petite form, the generous
cowl draped lightly over her large, tall ears, though it did not
obscure her finely boned features, nor the observantly sweeping
eyes with their two different colors. Her movements held a
decided purpose to them, clearly heading to someplace specific,
rather than like some of the monsters who were clearly doing a
lot more aimless wandering and window shopping through the
various shops that lined the street.
The destination of that determined stride soon became apparent
as the arctic fox slowed in front of a good sized establishment,
already abustle with activity. The sign above it proclaimed its
name to be Espresso Yourself, and from the smells wafting out
everytime the door opened with a soft but deep toned jingle,
there was a lot of that to be had inside. She walked past the
low-fenced patio and the large windows that gave the patrons
inside a good view of the goings on outside, entering through
the glass and wood door at the front to make it sing her arrival
softly as well.
“Eira!”
A rough, gruff, but somehow warm voice greeted her as she
entered, prompting her lips to draw back in a smile as she
lowered the cowl down, a small flurry of gathered snow wafting
down to the floor. “Good morning, Haldor,” she greeted the earth
elemental who owned the place. It always amazed her how he
somehow just seemed able to pick out his regulars the second
they walked in the door, but in her case, she supposed, it was
because her visits -- at least on the weekends -- were
predictable.
“Ur ye havin' th' usual, dearie?” Haldor’s thick brogue accent
was somehow intelligible.
Eira chuckled as she made her way past the tables and chairs
setup near the front of the coffee shop and over to the counter
with its register and glass display of currently available
pastries and other edible treats. There was a long bar that
stretched out to where guests could sit and watch the coffee
being made if they wished while enjoying their own, but it
wasn’t where the vulpine would be perching today. “Aye, a
peppermint vanilla cappuccino sounds delightful after last
night. Did those quakes break anything here?” she asked with
concern, already fishing out her wallet.
“Ah, nae tay much. jist puckle dishes left oan th' coonter.
Fortunately those quakes weren’t tay bad haur an' lae ay th'
machines ur bonnie heavy, sae naethin' irreplaceable. Don’t fash
yerse yer bonnie wee heed abit it.” The craggy faced earth
elemental had already assigned one of the baristas working to
the task, idly wiping down the countertop for a brief moment
before ringing the vixen up for her total. “Ah hiner yer faither
is daein' weel? Shoods be haur suin, aye?”
The vixen paid him the total readily, having it practically
memorized from how often she did get her usual. “He’s doing
well; I imagine he might have been a bit busy last night given
everything, but he should be here soon, all going well.”
“Stoat, Ah swatch forward tae seein' heem.” Haldor passed her
change back. “Gang oan an' sit down; I’ll hae them brin' it tae
ye.”
“Thanks.” Eira took the change and put it away before stepping
back from the counter to let the owner attend his next patrons,
moving with confidence through the familiar establishment. The
music playing over the speakers was pleasant, the soft thrum of
conversation in the background and warm crackle of the hearth
giving the place a character of its own, the warm wood of the
structure no doubt having many memories as well. She’d certainly
been coming here for as long as she could remember with her
father.
With a soft chuckle at herself, she drew her mind out of those
memories and made her way around the corner to a more secluded
alcove where the upper walls were lined with books -- all fair
game to read and enjoy -- and a number of comfortable chairs,
including some rather fluffy bean bags, were available. Short
tables were scattered about as well, lending kind of a cozy
chaos to the fellowship nook. For herself, Eira moved back
toward a pair of high backed arm chairs that were catty-corner
to each other with a short table between them. It was her usual
spot when she came to have that weekend coffee date with her
sire, and she was certain whomever Haldor sent with her coffee
would have no trouble finding her.
She took one quick moment to select a book from a nearby shelf
and then settled in to read and wait, coat laid over the back of
her chair as she roosted comfortably with knees crossed, quickly
getting lost in the text.

Yuki was cold after having walked into Snowdin from the
Waterfall. It was obvious that she didn't have the greatest cold
tolerance, but the kimono she was wearing obviously didn't help
with the cold either as she pulled out a small satchel of gold
that she had from a dojo she ran. She noticed a building that
smelled really good as she saw the inscribed words on the door.
"Espresso Yourself. Huh. Interesting play on words..." Yuki said
to herself as she walked in and went to the counter. She looked
at the menu and thought over what she wanted. She sometimes
drank plain coffee, but she always was willing to try new
things, so when something she had never had before, an espresso,
she decided to try that. "Can I get an espresso?" she asked as
the monster running the shop nodded and Yuki paid the gold for
the beverage. She also bought a baked good to go with her coffee
as the Kitsune waited. Once she had her coffee and her baked
good ready, she walked to another table and sat down by herself,
looking like she could use some company.

---------------------------------------------------------
As always, when Echo entered the shop that she rolled her eyes
from the name of she immediately felt uncomfortable. The place
looked too comfortable for her own good, especially for someone
like her who was lucky to afford just one night in the Inn. Her
craving for coffee just had to drag her here, didn't it? Into
the most welcoming place she had been in all week.
She could feel her hair dripping down creating a slip hazard
behind her on the wooden floor, and the fact that she came more
or less straight from a body of water made her look all the more
like a wreck. Her cheeks were getting especially hot, and not by
the fire. She new they were turning navy with every second she
stayed in here. Why should she be here? She was a roamer, who
lived off street survival instincts. Still she graced her eyes
over the menu, trying to find something that was cheap as she
consulted with the lack of gold in her pocket. But how she
drooled over the many flavors she combines, that only riches
could bless her with tasting.
Like her life was anything close to a blessing.
Maybe she should just walk out and find something else. But she
didn't want to be rude or appear picky, especially in front of
all these other monsters who probably loved this place. She was
ruining the reputation enough with how wet she was, and didn't
want to ruin it further by leaving like a posh piece of
privilege. But there were better things to spend her money on
than a drink, surely. "Just think of this as a treat," she told
herself unknowingly. "You can earn this back easily by washing
windows,
or somethin'." She looked back up at the board, wondering
whether to simply go black or to splurge and dig in the garbage
for the next two days.

By: Monster Kid Date: November 10, 2017, 4:04 am
---------------------------------------------------------
(For the sake of comfort I will be calling Monster Kid "MK" for
short)
MK was running with all his might to downtown Snowdin. The small
yellow monster was making a beeline for his usual Saturday
morning hang out, his striped yellow shirt wafting in the wind.
Usually this venture involved a casual stroll, enough time to
scout around for Undyne. However, there was no time for that
today.
He had overslept and therefor, he was late. He ran full speed
down the road, trying to either dodge or jump over the bigger
heaps of snow along his route. The earthquakes from last night
had done a lot to even out the snow ever so slightly, but there
will always be a few heaps here and there. He looked up at the
sun. 'Oh no, I'm probably too late.. maybe i should just..', he
thought to himself, 'NO! Yo, Undyne would never give up! I can
make it!'
As he approached his destination he glanced up at the
establishment's name: Espresso Yourself. He laughed at the name.
'Gets me every ti-', his thoughts were cut short as he stumbled
over his own feet. At first he thought he could recover from it,
but then he collided with the wooden door. He crashes into the
shop landing face first on the floor. If that wasn't enough,
somehow the floor had gotten wet causing him to slide across the
wet floor- knocking into whomever were unfortunate enough to be
along his path. Eventually he stopped and attempted to get back
on his feet. He slipped a couple more times before he got on his
feet. He rushed over to the counter, jumping up to try and spot
Haldor.
After he spotted him he yelled: "Yo,Haldor! Haldor! YO!
Haldor!", jumping in between each yell to try and get his
attention.

Haldor looked up as the door chimed to announce the arrival of
Yuki. She was a new face, so his gruff countenance was curious
as it regarded her with its subtly shifting stone. “Welcome
dearie! Looks loch ye coods use somethin' tae warm ye up.” The
stout monster leaned in on the wooden counter as the kitsune
approached and made her order. “Jist espresso?” he inquired
curiously. Sure, there were some monsters who did indeed want
just that -- particularly among the older crowd -- but it was
rare for the young’uns. “Alrecht, m’dear.” He rang her up for
her total with the requested pastry and soon the barista making
her order presented Yuki with what she had ordered: a one ounce
shot of espresso and the pastry, gently warmed.
While it wasn’t common for monsters to come into his
establishment soaked to the bone, it wasn’t something that never
happened either, so the owner of the coffee shop was quick to
gesture one of the staff to clean up the puddles being left
behind by Echo, since such thing were indeed a safety hazard,
and something that simply came with running a business where the
ground was almost always covered by snow. “Whit can Ah dae fur
ye, mah dew-dropped dahrlin’? Aiblins jist a braw cuppae hot
coffee tae warm ye up? Free refills oan 'at,” he noted,
gesturing to the selection of thermoses on the bar next to him,
with a variety of flavored brewed coffee as well as regular and
decaf. Regardless of what she selected, he also threw in one of
their large, trademark cinnamon rolls. “Mah treat,” he assured
her as he rang her up for a pretty low total. “Say, Ah don’t
suppose ye ken anyain fa micht be up tae helpin' wash mah
windae? It gits sae thrang they gie mighty smudged up. Ah was
thinkin' Ah ooght tae hire someain tae help wi' 'at.”
Once he was done assisting with Echo, Haldor’s attention was
rapidly drawn to the dramatic as ever entrance of Monster Kid.
There was a low, quiet chuckle that rumbled up from his core at
that rather predictable slip -- part of why he’d wanted to
attend to it rather quickly -- and an expression of sympathy.
“Guid morn, MK,” the earth elemental rumbled, voice sounding a
little gravely as it always did. “Yoo’ll be wantin' yer usual
'en?” he asked, already reaching for the pastry cabinet and
pulling out a large bowl-mug from beneath the counter in
preparation. In the background the staff member finally came
around with the wheeled mop cart, quickly moving to clean away
that water so no one else might slip in it.

Lesser Dog moved somewhat quickly through the streets of
snowdin. usually when on break she would head for grillby's,
(assuming she did not spend her time making snow-dogs or rolling
around and enjoying herself in the snow.) But given recent
events she had been out of town for some time, a large part of
her just wanted to collapse in the first warm dry place
available.
Espresso Yourself... She was not sure that name makes sense.
does it mean you get to design your own expressos? Did you have
to pour everything yourself? Did it turn you into expresso?
Perhaps what you bought here was~
Her thoughts were interrupted as Monster kid Charged inside,
directly in front of her.
With the door open, lesser dog could feel the heat of a warm
fire. She moved inside, and made her way to a table carrying a
deck of cards, not paying much head to the bustle around her.
She wanted to play a game of poker against herself, she had been
mulling over her plans for some time, and thought she had a
strategy that would work.

Yuki took a sip of her espresso, feeling the cold melting away
as she took a bite from her pastry, enjoying the taste of the
baked good. The Kitsune had really come to enjoy western
cuisine. She sat and thought to herself about the life she has
lived thus far and was really enjoying being among the monsters.
The loving care put into her pastry and cup of coffee not only
warmed her body up, but it warmed her heart a little as well.
She believed that it also was just the overall feel of the place
that she liked so much. She had to admit... While she hadn't had
a lot of coffee before, this was probably one of the best cups
she had.
It felt rich and flavorful, and when she drank it, it felt
almost luxurious when the cup touched her lips. Just the
simplicity of the place and the warmth that seemed to radiate
from this place really was what helped the Kitsune appreciate
the simpler things in life.

When MK got around to sliding on in, Echo stepped away from the
chaos, muttering an apology behind her face that was a much
darker blue than she was when calm. She should've squeezed the
water out of her hair before she came in. But she knew where she
was going once she got her coffee; to cook herself by the
fireplace.
She approached the counter nervously at first from the scene she
had caused, and especially how she was addressed as being
drenched. And each perk that Haldor made made Echo feel somewhat
undeserving of it. It was almost too generous for her to take.
But business here seemed booming, so she told herself it was
fine. "You're awfully considerate, even after the pandemonium I
kinda caused..." her voice grew close to silent as she watched
the staff clean it up. "A true blessing."
The mention of the windows and that position he offered was also
a relief. Maybe she could get that money back sooner than she
thought. Like she said to herself, this was just a treat. "As
for those windows you'd need cleaning, I'd be up to discussing
how I could help clean them up for ya." She placed her gold on
the counter, pocketing the little she had left. "But after I
finish a long black, please."

Re: A Warm Respite From The Cold (Open Scene)
By: Fia Date: November 11, 2017, 6:51 am
---------------------------------------------------------
Suddenly the front door burst open as a fire elemental composed
of flammable liquid compounds and wearing an assortment of
mismatched clothes with it's clashing colours and complete
no-sense in fashion complete with comically large glasses and
huge artificial nose attachment burst into the scene.
"Gooooood morning Snowdin!" Fia chimed as she removed the
'disguise glasses' and tossed it aside. A series of tiny,
non-flammable fireworks were set off from the top of her head to
the space between her and ceiling in a dramatic and
cheerfully-loud fashion.
She then skipped on over to the front counter of the cafe and
quickly grabbed the coffee-shop-owner's hand whilst he was in
the middle of doing whatever he was doing and shook it with
up-most enthusiasm and energy, "Hally! Hally! Haldor! How's my
fellow Elemental doing this fine morning? Is that a new gravel
cut? Let me tell you, you look A-MAZE-ING!" she cheered as the
seemingly endless joy clung onto every word she spoke in a near
sing-songy fashion. She then had a quick look around the cafe,
eagerly waving a jovial hello to Yukite, Lesser Dog, Monster
Kid, Echo and every other monster present at the cafe. She then
waved an extra-excited greeting when she saw Eira and mouthed an
almost apologetic 'one moment' before returning her attention to
Haldor, "Say you're pretty busy this morning - fantastic! I
won't keep you forever! Even if I wanted to - you're so much fun
to talk to! Say, could I get another one of those scrumptious
Vulkinian Spiced Coffees - large, extra, extra, extraaaaaa hot
please~ Oh! I am also pretty peckish! I'll also go for a Sweet
and Spicy Caramelised Onion and Egg Pastry! Don't be shy on the
pepper now~"
She then giggled briefly as she dived through her purse to pull
out the required amount of G to pay for her order - leaving an
tip as well - before grabbing a number for the table and bounded
off.
Fia then took a seat opposite Eira - or rather, grabbed onto the
nearest chair and dragged it over so it could be in front of the
fox monster and promptly took a seat as she waited patiently for
her order, "Eira! How have you been?! I was just at the
hospital!" she greeted with an excited handshake before
gesturing to her comical mash up of attire, "Just made a young
boy's birthday worth-while smiling about, the poor dear. So, do
you drop by here often? Such a cute cafe, I always come here
whenever I have to make the trip to Snowdin."

Yuki sighed as she sat by herself and sighed. She never was a
big fan of large crowds. Always made her a little nervous. The
Kitsune looked over to the two sitting at the table, wondering
if she could join in. She may have lived as a hermit in the
Waterfall, but even she wanted some friends.
