Biding His Time

EDIT:
I had part of this RP dubbed by SuperShadicX250 from the 8th
reply onwards... hoooly moly am I excited to hear this! :D
Granted their take on Flowey's voice is rather deep, I still
adore it to bits!

Locked up in one of the Underground's high security cells at the
castle was a glass, cylindrical container with a metal base and
top at the centre of a windowless room. It was set upon a rather
solid-looking table and a couple of chairs were at either side.
Inside said container was a golden flower with shriveled up
petals that were closed over Flowey's face. He didn't move, nor
say anything. He hadn't ever since he was transfered into the
new containment unit and while he was no longer being tortured
every passing minute, he was still currently unable to Reset
unless he dies. While he didn't want to admit it, he didn't have
it in him to try and kill himself; for he too, just like most
other monsters, was afraid of dying and not being able to come
back. He was too concerned about that there may be a possibility
that if he tried anything, he may not be able to come back.

A few minutes later heavy metal footsteps marched through the
hallways; the sounds of metal meeting stone echoed throughout
the hallway. Undyne was still wearing her full suit armor -
including her helmet - and she dismissed the two guards standing
outside the cell to take over. She had received word that
someone wanted to pay the flower a visit. Not only did it
surprise the fish warrior but she was rather wary about the
news.
'Just who and why would want to visit him?' she thought to
herself as she stood tall, proud and as still as a statue.

The sound of claws clattering and wheels rolling against the
stone of the castle floor made itself audible to anyone in the
vicinity as the royal scientist herself along with what could be
compared to a suitcase on wheels made their way toward the cell
where the flower was locked away. Though she wasn't attempting
to be sneaky Alphys had hoped that her approach could have been
quieter, perhaps drawn less attention to herself... not
necessarily because what she was doing was bad or immoral, but
because the idea of visiting Flowey already bought her enough
anxiety, and she didn't need other people attempting to speak to
her to make her even more anxious.
A familiar face, or rather a familiar helmet, caught the
reptilian monster's attention as she registered who was by the
door. Seeing Undyne there was both reassuring and nerve
wracking: she felt safer knowing that the captain of the royal
guard was there to help if anything happened, but despite the
helmet blocking the fish's face she could almost feel the
judgmental and wary look that no doubt would be plastered across
her face. Why would Alphys be here to see the very creature that
had caused her so much emotional trauma? What was she doing
here? Even Alphys herself felt like questioning this as she
approached the cell, but she knew that she had good reason to be
there. The wrong doings that both of the golden beings in the
area had committed could potentially be fixed by this very
meeting. With a resigned sigh Alphys released the handle of her
case before offering a meek wave to the warrior.
"U-Undyne! H-h-how are you doing? How is the m-medication
working out f-f-for you?" she asked, still slightly concerned
for Undyne's well being. The image of Undyne dying again and
again was something that haunted Alphys' dreams, and the fact
that Undyne herself was the person who actually danced with
death made the lizard ponder if that would have mentally scarred
her. Thanks to Undyne's natural abilities and the medicine she
had been given the warrior seemed physically stable, but Alphys
worried for her mental health.

A soft creak of metal sounds as Undyne turned her head towards
of oddly familiar clattering of claws against stone. When she
realised just who it was her heart skipped a beat and her
posture relaxed quite noticeably. Once she was closer Undyne was
quick to remove her helmet to reveal her signature, broad,
toothy grin and dropped the piece of armor a short distance from
the floor.
"Alphys! I'm doing great thanks to you!" she exclaimed as she
picked her up, brought her into a hug and spun around once. When
she realised what she did she flushed a little before setting
her back down onto the ground as gently as the fish warrior
could manage; and by gentle, it was without the usual excessive
force she often was fond of putting behind things, "Erm, I mean,
yeah I'm doing fine. I feel a little nauseous and lethargic
every now and then, but that's nothing! How about yourself? How
are you holding up?"
Seeing her here - especially with that suitcase - Undyne was
able to put two and two together, so she didn't need to ask such
an obvious question as to why she was here. Behind that grin and
bravado, there were some invisible scars and burdens the warrior
carried - just like any other whom had been met with the strife
and consequence of wars and battles - but Undyne was not one to
let that stop her from performing her dutie;s nor show them in
front of other monsters. She felt like she had the
responsibility of always looking strong, confident, optimistic
and hopeful whenever she was with other monsters; especially
when they turn to her and the rest of the Royal Guard for safety
and guidance.

When Undyne's face was revealed to have her trademark grin
plastered across it Alphys felt a lot better about the
situation, though the noise the helmet made when dropped on the
ground startled the lizard monster back into her state or
nerves. Alphys' pulse seemed to quicken as she gazed up at
Undyne and her wonderfully bright smile, though she tried to
keep her cool: she was here for the sake of science and
monsters, not for what she believed to be a one-sided romance.
The hug Undyne gave was both sudden and unexpected, and Alphys
made a small noise akin to a mouse as she was hoisted up into
the air and spun around. By the time she was plonked back down
on the ground the scientist was rather befuddled, fumbling to
readjust her glasses which had slipped almost completely off her
face. Despite the glasses no longer needing to be saved Alphys
kept her fingers clasped gently around her glasses for a moment,
perhaps actually to hide the glow that though she couldn't see
it she sure as heck could feel spreading across her cheeks.
"I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I" she stuttered, too flustered to form a proper
sentence. After taking a deep breath the royal scientist resumed
her attempt at communication. "I'm g-glad that it's working out
f-for you! Your symptoms are p-perfectly normal, j-just
c-c-contact me if they get any worse, okay?" Alphys asked, her
voice oozing with concern as she spoke. When she was asked about
how she was doing a look of surprise spread across the reptilian
monster's face. "I'm doing alright... j-just here on...
business" Alphys replied, the last word spoken with some
hesitation. She gazed toward the cell, an uncertain look slowly
appearing on her face. Was this the right thing to do?

Seeing Alphys' reaction caused for Undyne to let out a hearty
chuckle; perhaps the fish warrior even secretly found the
scientist's flustering cute?
"Yeah of course, it'll take a lot more than that to keep me down
- easy!" she replied confidently but she did pause for a moment
to look at her lizard friend and her voice dropped a little
softer. As she spoke her eye slowly shied away to the side;
something that most monsters rarely -if ever- saw from Undyne,
"But yanno, it would have been a lot harder on me if it weren't
for all your help. Like I'm still a little confused about it but
back in the mines, I got this feeling that what brought me back
thinking of-"
She then paused abruptly with a surprised look on her face as
she stared at the wall beside them. As if she had just caught
herself just before she was going to say something. She then
quickly followed through, hoping that Alphys didn't notice but
even now she had her doubts, "- kicking that genie's ass and
saving the Underground of course!" she finalized, once again in
her usual confident tone.
Her grin did lessen a fraction when Alphys mentioned that she
was here on business and her yellow eye glanced over to the
locked door behind her. The guard seemed a little worried as she
placed her hand on the scientist's shoulder, "Business huh? Well
I trust that you know what you're doing, but even so, please be
careful. I normally wouldn't bend the rules a bit but, would you
feel more comfortable if I stayed out here or went in with you?"

Alphys could only imagine what the warrior was really about to
say, as she doubted the sudden explanation Undyne produced was
truly what was on her mind. There was no way of knowing what
Undyne really intended on saying, but the way she so quickly
swerved to avoid it in the presence of Alphys gave the lizard
monster a small spark of hope. Though perhaps it was just her
being too desperate... she really needed to stop being so
desperate. It was being desperate with Asgore that got her into
her current mess.... if it weren't for the crush she once had on
the boss monster she would have never applied for the position
as royal scientist. Alphys shook away those thoughts and
returned to the current situation.
"Haha, y-yeah... that would have b-b-been something that was
worth... returning, f-for" she replied, looking at the ground as
she spoke. There was a small silence before the scientist spoke
again, perhaps because of the tension that seemed to be
building, or perhaps because she needed a decent amount of time
to think on whether or not to take up Undyne's offer. There was
a small hesitation before Alphys again spoke.
"It may b-be safer for the b-b-both of us if I g-go in alone...
he's very c-c-crafty, and if something happens... we'll both
b-be better off i-if one of us is o-outside of the cell
preparing..."

The fish warrior watched the lizard scientist carefully as she
shared the silence with her. Undyne could tell that she was
thinking deeply about something; but as to whatever it was, she
will never know. One thing she did know was not to put Alphys on
the spot or pressure her in any way; after all, she secretly
found the scientist the most beautiful when she was calculating
and passionate with whatever she had put her mind to.
The guard then stood up with a nod when she got her answer and
turned to face the door behind her. Several glowing spears
appeared out of thin air and slammed into numerous slots in the
door and independently took sharp turns either to the left or
right at different speeds; until finally the sounds of several
locks clicked and the heavy door slowly creaked open to a dark
and cold chamber. There was a dim spotlight on the glass
container at the centre which imprisoned a closed, still, golden
flower.
"Alright, but just say the word and I'll be in there before you
know it. I won't let anything happen to you." Undyne reassured
before taking her position by the door again - at the ready.

Alphys took a few steps back while Undyne opened the door, the
sudden appearance of the spears giving her a small fright.
Once the doors had swung open to their full extent the scientist
stepped into the chamber, bringing her 'briefcase' in with her.
Alphys lay this briefcase down next to the glass container and
pressed a button on it. The case started to unfold, opening up
and becoming a very short table with small drawers underneath.
Each of these drawers contained various scientific instruments
and medicines of sorts. A small clipboard was also among these
items, which she picked up and tested the pen that was in her
coat pocket with before proceeding. Before getting to the point
Alphys decided that she would go over a few basic procedures to
see if she could actually potentially get some co-operation from
the flower.
"H-Hello Flowey... How are you feeling today?" she asked. It was
quite obvious to her that she wasn't going to get any sort of
respectful answer, but small talk would provide a gateway to
what she really wanted to talk about.

At first the closed golden flower didn't move; so still that
some may question if it was just an ordinary flower. That is,
until finally there was some movement. The roots which had
gathered and twisted into a mangle at the base of the canister
twitched and coiled into further knots; Flowey's pale green stem
creaked ever so slightly as he tilted his head and the petals
parted ever so slightly to allow for those dull red eyes to leer
through.
"Oh. It's you." he groaned before closing the petals around his
face again, making his voice muffled but still comprehensible to
hear. He seemed to be disinterested before adding rhetorically
and ending on a blatantly sarcastic note, "Feeling? Do monsters
without souls feel? If they don't then I'm doing 'just peachy'."
His petals parted slightly once again for a brief moment,
allowing him just enough time for the portable table being there
to register and said as the petals closed again, "Golly, I hope
you're here to euthanize me doc, cause that would be just
swell."
