Starry Eyes & Pizza Pies [Zarc/River]

Since the incident in the mines; life had returned to some
modicum of normal. Before any form of concrete news had spread;
our fiend (or friend, as the case may realistically be) Zarc had
decided to take a look around the Underground. He had come
across an odd new statue of an elf man, and the headband that
Sans and Alphys had made beeped and booped pathetically,
indicating two things. One; the statue was weird and new,
potentially a product of some time-dickery or Reset, and two;
the headbands had a finite lifespan, and before long his own
sputtered out becoming nothing more than a fancy accessory.
Still, the winged monster saved this device and simply left it
inside the cabinet of his hammock-side shelf at home.
Sometimes, he would visit Toriel in the Ruins; periodically
bringing supplies that she needed from the shops and sometimes
to have a short chat. These visits were kept short however, as
Zarc still had things to do. At some point, news had finally
spread; as did rumors. It was an... Odd experience to be the
target of such praise from people, children especially. Zarc
wasn't against being liked or seen as a positive role-model but
this was almost ridiculous!
Luckily; the place where he lived was not only a secret to all
but five people, it rather difficult to get there if you weren't
a specific two out of those five. It was a strange place; closer
to the Ruins rather than anywhere else; far into the distance in
a chasm filled with mist and spooky spindly trees.
It was a new day; and Zarc had awoken early. Today he was going
to catch up with one of his best friends who had been incredibly
busy as of late. He woke up early so he could actually be on
time. You see, for one as stylish as him; freshening up in the
morning to look good, well... It took a while. He refused to let
either of those things happen. He wasn't going to be late, but
he wasn't going to look like crap either. That was that.
With one last swish of a brush through his hair, he gave his
reflection in the mirror a wink. "Nice." Zarc did some cleaning
but eventually left what he would call his 'humble abode'...
Regardless of the fact that it was an aesthetically derelict
spooky-chasm-mist-mansion that could fit at least seven monsters
without a problem.
Zarc made his way through the fog towards a small secret cavern
after a bit of a trek. Through that small cavern after opening
the seal and closing it behind him, he would reach a point where
the Underground's main river could be reached deep in Waterfall,
on a tricky path that few would go past on foot. Here, he
waited; 'Right on time.'

"[font=arialblack]Tra la laaaa~[/font]"
Zarc wouldn't be left waiting for long, as, only but a few
minutes later would a cloaked figure on an odd looking wooden
boat would come, drifting along the river calmly before stopping
suddenly by the path that Zarc was waiting on. The boat gently
knocking up against the path's riverside where the ground met
the water.
Once the boat became steady after having stopped, the cloaked
figure would wander to the center of it before carefully hopping
off the boat and onto the ground in front of Zarc, bright white
eyes peeked at him from under the hood, they seemed glad to see
him.
But also a bit nervous to say much of anything first.
A deep purple hand dotted with sparkling white spots would reach
out and up, fumbling a badge that helped to keep the cloak up on
the figure. They wouldn't say anything yet, but perhaps the
touch to a badge that probably looked familiar to Zarc let him
know they where glad to see him again.

"Switch on the sky and the stars glow for you~" A welcoming
smile came across Zarc's face. That familiar voice was-- as they
say-- 'music to my ears'. The winged monster hummed along to the
tune, breaking further into song. "Go see the world cause its
all so brand new~" Even further still, so much as to do a little
dance. "Don’t close your eyes 'cause your future's ready to
shine. It's just a matter of time, before we learn how to fly~"
Zarc failed miserably at stifling a bit of a laugh at his own
silliness and stopped singing. "But for now I guess I'll just
say; hi." He bowed as his friend disembarked from their raft,
giving the boat a quick glance to see if the little doggo head
was on the front. That raft was a mystery, as much of a mystery
as either of them, really. Zarc's smile brightened upon seeing
the badge. It was one of his first jewelry projects, and he was
honored that it was treasured so much. "S'good to see you too."
He held his arms outwards, offering a hug. "If you've heard the
news.. Well, I'm fine, a you can see. That lollipop you got me
basically saved my life, though." That wasn't the only thing
that saved his life at that moment in time, but those weren't on
his mind.

A little glowing smile might've been able to be caught hidden
under the hood at Zarc's singing and his laugh, not a mocking
type of smile, a rather gleeful and cheery one. The boat would
have the doggo head on it's front at the moment, which Zarc
would be able to see after having checked.
The cloaked river person would take Zarc's hug of course, at
first a little timid as they moved closer to him, but eventually
they would also put their arms around him, gently pressing the
side of their hood against his chest in the moments of the hug.
The hood fell just a little looser during this, hugging was not
something River did often afterall. If Zarc looked down, he'd be
able to see one of their shimmering white eyes looking up at
him, shining as brightly as that of a star. And although they
where glad to see him, the look held clear concern.
"[font=arial black]I hear a lot... From children... About a
winged Hero who...'ate' a black hole..[/font]" Their voice
was... Relaxing, flowy, gentle.. Otherworldly even "[font=Aerial
black]I'm so glad you're alright.. You had me very
worried..[/font]" They would gently squeeze hand around the
badge they had gotten from Zarc. A light smile returned when the
talk of the lollipop came up, "[font=arial black]O-oh! I.. I
must get you another then![/font]" They would slip a hand under
the hood and gently rub the back of their neck, "[font=arial
black] Only heard of somethings that went on from rumours, would
it be alright if I got the full story from somebody who was
there?[/font]"

Zarc raised his eyebrows slightly "Do my eyes deceive me? Oho~
no they don't~ There's that starlight smile."
There was an unspoken tension that still remained in Zarc's
body, but during the hug it vanished. When River came right up
to him, Zarc found himself holding her closer than he expected.
The winged monster looked down and caught River's concerned
gaze. "Hm? Whats wrong?" He let go as he listened to River's
concerns. Of course, the news had now traveled so it was no
surprise that she had heard about it. Zarc grumbled a bit over
the mention of the superhero thing.
However, with even more concern in her voice; River plainly said
that she was worried for his safety; with a hand on the special
badge as she spoke. 'Oh nuts. Ok dude, don't choke, don't choke'
Zarc coughed a little in an attempt to mask the fact that his
mind was going a mile a minute. "Well, of course! I have to be
alright. I had some people to see that are very near and dear to
my heart." He flipped his hair and gave a comical wink. 'Nailed
it.'
Zarc very much appreciated that River wasn't one to simply be
content with rumors, and he wanted to recount his side of the
story, but... "Yeah, though could that wait for, uh, later?
We're hanging out to have some fun, aren't we?"

The white glowing eyes under the hood would widen lightly at
Zarc's starlight smile comment, before fluttering shyly a few
times, the colours under the hood shifting to starry purples
mixed now with a pink-red colour before slowly returning back to
normal.
It would soon go back to the 'blushing' colours though at Zarc's
wink, River would gently kick a foot against the ground beneath
her a couple times, swaying back and forth on the spot to get
the colours back to normal, she was smiling though, there was no
doubt about that. "[font=arialblack]Seems as though eating that
lollipop has made you even sweeter Zarc~[/font]" She would
finally look back up at him, "[font=arialblack]Not that you need
sugar to be sweet[/font]"
Out of all the monsters in the underground, Zarc had to be the
one she was most comfortable around, and it showed really, Zarc
could probably see how relaxed and comfortable she was to be in
his presence.
Her hood would nod along with her head as she gave her answer in
response to Zarc's request, "[font=arialblack]Of course! Of
course! Fill me in whenever you're ready to later on~[/font]"
She would reply with calmly, respecting Zarc's wishes to save
the explanation for later, and appreciating that he wanted to
spend their time hanging out, by having fun. Her smile returned,
and she would grip lightly at the hood part that hung over far
enough to cover her face, "[font=arialblack]Oh also-[/font]" She
would reach deep into a pocket on her hooded coat before pulling
out a handful of lollipops that where different colours and
shapes, "[font=arialblack]Pich whichever one you'd like[/font]"
She would offer with a smile, extremely glad that her last
lollipop to him, had helped him a great deal. But with it now
gone, she of course had to give him another!
As always, River was excited to spend time with Zarc, still just
so glad to see that he was alright.

Upon hearing River's compliment, Zarc's hair puffed out much
like that of a supremely (positively) surprised owl. 'D-d-did
she just pull a fast one on me?!' He went to clear his throat
and made a very light hoot noise. 'Aw bugger. Quick, salvage,
salvage!' At which point he properly cleared his throat.
"Goodness gracious, what high praise~" He pushed his foggy
glasses up on the side with one index finger, taking a very
scholarly pose; straight back, relaxed shoulders. "If yoooou
view it that way then I most certainly qualify."
Zarc smiled back as he nodded. "Mhm, but first--" He paused as
River rummaged around in her cloak for something. What a legend,
she still had a stash of those lollipops! They were of his
favorite brand, and a lot of them were very interesting shapes
and flavors, but... "Wait.." Zarc held a hand near his mouth,
before his eyes widened in childish glee. One candy in
particular caught his attention, a purple star shaped lollipop
with a red gummi center. "Is that... Is that blackberry
red-star?" Zarc's wings fluttered for a moment. "Oh, River, you
absolute charmer; you remembered my favorite~!" Slowly, he took
the precious confectionery in his hands and put it in one of his
coat pockets for later.
"Well now, we can't just stand around here, would you like to go
somewhere for some breakfast? I doubt many kiddos will be awake
this early, so at the very least they won't swarm us."

River would put a hand over her mouth to stifle a giggle when
Zarc puffed up like an owl, she always thought it was cute when
he did that, the little hoot noise made it even better!
The hooded lady would smile brightly at Zarc's excitement at the
lollipops, one in particular seemed to snag his interest, she
would nod to confirm it was his favourite blackberry red-star,
she was glad she had been lucky enough to get her hands on one
before Zarc returned, "[font=arialblack]But of course![/font]"
She would say, placing her hands together in front of her after
Zarc had taken the lollipop, "[font=arialblack]I remember the
favourites of my favourite monster[/font]".
River would then run one of her arms shyly when he asked if she
wanted to go somewhere for breakfast. She smiled lightly at the
kid comment before looking aside. She didn't want to say no, she
really wanted to go have breakfast with Zarc! But it involved
going elsewhere and other monsters where elsewhere.. Suppose
that's pretty inevitable, still, it would flare her anxiety a
fair bit.. But..
"[font=arialblack]I... I would love to[/font]"
But being with Zarc and spending some fun time with him was more
important then that. She had to at least try for Zarc as he did
for her. "[font=arialblack]Did you have somewhere in
mind?[/font]"

"Ah? Well, then could you do me a massive favor?" Zarc asked as
he moved closer to the magic raft, holding a hand out for River
to take; as he would guide her onto the raft if she accepted.
"Always remember who you are." After all, River did just say
that she would remember her favorite's favorites.
The winged monster stroked his chin. He didn't exactly think
that part through all too much. Generally he would suggest going
to a park somewhere; but given the circumstances he would rather
avoid going anywhere near a park, for in mere seconds some
Monster children might converge upon him. "Truth be told, I
didn't think that far. I don't think we should go to MTT, too
many people; you'd be uncomfortable... As for Grillby's, I heard
the water damage was fixed, yes, but that place is pretty
popular with kids. Hmm." He looked over to River; at a loss for
suggestions. "Any ideas on your part?"

River would nod when Zarc asked if she could do him a favour,
"[font=arial black]Of course Zarc~[/font]" She'd almost coo to
him in a cool voice, she was relaxed in his presence, and it was
something you could hear in her voice!
When he said what the favour was, she would look at him for a
moment, watching him board the raft and then offer to help her
onto it, she looked at his hand before carefully sliding her
hand onto it, wrapping her fingers around his as a smile came to
her face as she nodded to his asked favour. It wasn't exactly
what she was expecting for him to ask of her, but it was
something she would try and do nonetheless for Zarc.
Climbing onto the raft with Zarc, still having his hand in hers,
she would listen to Zarc trying to work out where they should go
to for breakfast. He crossed MTT and Grillby's off the list of
possible options before asking her, she'd blink in surprise a
little, before giving her head a gentle shake, trying to think
back on places she'd seen or heard of. "[font=arial black]I
heard of a nice quiet place somewhere around Waterfall, a shop
that looks like a gingerbread house of sorts, I'm not sure of
their opening hours though, but I did hear about getting a
private venue there[/font]" She would suggest before placing a
hand under the hood, presumably to her chin, "[font=arial
black]There's also the man whom hands out Nicecreams, but that's
not really breakfast is it? And it might attract
children...[/font]" She would let off a low, gentle, rhythmic
hum as she pondered, trying to think of more possible answers
for Zarc.
