Part II: It's gone??? (Flowey and Sprite)
By: Sprite Date: March 21, 2017, 7:57 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
How long had it been? Minutes? Hours?
Sprite sat against the walls of the cavern, looking towards the
opened crack. Occasionally he had to move over a bit. He didn't
know sunlight could move as time passed. Regardless, Flowey said
he'd be back...Right?
The pucks eyes noticed that the Moldsmal he had frozen earlier
had finally thawed out. The sunlight probably helped with that.
Sprite watched as they broke free from their prison and began
squelching away.
He had gotten so much judgment from the others for his actions
there. Yet he wasn't too angry about it because of their
attempts to apologize for the way that they acted. However, each
apology felt like it had an underlying tone of condescension.
"You were wrong for making your choice, but we'll forgive you as
long as you know that you were wrong. Your choices were a
mistake." Granted none, of them had actually said that exactly,
but that's pretty much how he felt at the end of the day. Maybe
he was more angry then he thought.
Though as time passed, Sprite felt his consciousness slip and he
had calmly dozed off. Though before he knew it, he snapped
awake, and the cavern was once again filled with darkness.
Sprite practically exploded from his rest area and stared
upwards, running into the middle of the cavern once more.
"...It's gone???"

Had Sprite run any further he might have accidentally stepped
onto a certain flower with golden petals tipped with red.
[shadow=orange, left]"Hey! Watch where you're going you little-"
[/shadow]he spat at first as he whirled around with a rather
twisted, demonic-looking face. However when he recognised who it
was, he stopped mid sentence; looking up at Sprite. The petals
closed over his face before opening again, revealing the more
familiar, softer and cheery expression,"Oh! Howdy Sprite! I'm
surprised that you're still here." he continued in a completely
different tone from before.

The puck looked down, almost tripping as he turned, noticing
Flowey's response and how his voice sounded...off. Come to think
of it, he had been doing that a lot, but nobody had really paid
much attention to it, or so it seemed.
Yet that wasn't really important right now. Sprite cleared his
throat as he crouched down to his knees, admittedly happy to see
the flower.
"Umm... you said you would be coming back... I didn't want to go
with the others, so uh, I waited." Sprite scratched his head as
he explained, looking to the Flower for his response.
"You said you wanted to be friends."

The flower tilted his body to the side with surprise, "You
waited all this time... for me?" he murmured; from being caught
off-guard his voice actually sounded rather soft and genuine for
once. Probably even close to what he used to sound like as a
prince.
He blinked for a moment before clearing his throat and it
reverted back to it's usual squeakiness, "Friends? Well of
course! I just have a really good feeling about you! Unless, you
prefer not to?" he continued with a curious, raised brow.
Flowey seemed a little bigger from before, not by much but
enough to be noticeable. His stem seemed thicker and even a leaf
or two was starting to sprout at the sides. The base of the stem
- where it met with the ground - also looked thicker and
healthier and he looked rather comfortable sitting amongst the
rich, moist soil as he looked up to watch Sprite carefully.

"Well... I don't have friends. I've lived alone, all my life."
Sprite looked to the side, sadness evident in his tone. "It's
just... until I met you, and when you helped me back there... I
didn't realize I was missing something like that. I felt
empty... I've never had anyone care about me."
He looked back to Flowey.
"I... I know we just met but, you were there for me. It made me
want to help you. And.. it seems like it did. You...I don't
know.. look better. I don't know where the sun went, I just hope
we didn't mess up. I...hope it comes back.. like you did."
Though to be fair, Sprite didn't like the sun at all. Yet it
made someone else happy.

As Sprite poured his heart out the flower was listening rather
intently and he even leaned a little closer to suggest he was
being empathetic. However, even he wore this mask with skill,
the only thing the soulless husk could see was opportunity.
The flower nodded infrequently as Sprite spoke, drinking in his
words like he would sap the nutrients in the soil with his
roots, "Gee-wizz Sprite, I had no idea. That couldn't have been
easy for you." he began and honestly, he would have added the
'I'm sorry to hear that.' line, but he simply couldn't just
bring himself to say it without it sounding false.
Flowey looked to the night sky; it was dark and yet filled with
so much light with all those stars dancing and sparkling in the
distance. The barrier keeping them trapped down here was
transparent for the most part, though it did flicker a shade of
white every now and then as an ill-fated reminder.
"In a way, there is an upside to that, at least when you're
alone no one can kill you; but more importantly, no one can hurt
you. Did you know that I have parents? I once used to have a
loving family. My mother was very nurturing and my father was
very strong. Then one day, they just forgot about me and left me
behind to fend for myself. To this day it never made any sense
to me, why they would suddenly cast me out and act as if they
have never met me before. It feels as though... lives have been
Reset." the Flower recounted as he continued his facade of
looking and sounding hurt - he even added that quivering lip to
his act, emphasizing on the look of 'no-really-I-am-okay' with a
false smile. Perhaps it was from all that practice he had over
the years.
"Though Sprite, when I saw you I couldn't just not help you out,
you know? I truly believed you did nothing wrong and it just
burns me up when monsters force their views onto others. Anyone
who really believes that everyone can just get along by making
friends with everyone and skipping around singing songs about
how wonderful the world is, is just plain stupid. Their
ignorance is their downfall and they'll always be the first to
die. This world is cruel and made even more cruel by the humans.
It's kill or be killed."

"They... cast you out?"
The mere thought of being rejected by the those that you thought
you could trust, filled Sprite with Despair.
"I'm sorry." Sprite looked to Flowey, sadness more prevalent
than ever before. "I feel sad, but I don't know how it feels to
lose someone. I...can't imagine how that feels. I didn't have
anyone, but I've never lost anyone either. I'm sorry...."
"They... they didn't like my choice. They said so many things...
I felt so angry and confused. But you understood me...thank
you."
However, when Flowey said the world was cruel, Sprite shook his
head.
"I mean, maybe, but you're trying to change that, right? You're
sharing sunlight, it's supposed to make us happy, right?" He
didn't have the heart to acknowledge that it made him feel pain.
"I mean, it's gone, but I hope it comes back."
"You helped me and the others, and we helped you. I don't know
about the world, I'm just a kid, but maybe things can be better.
I mean, I kill if I have to, but not everything has to die.... I
didn't want Gust to die, or Cherry, or the human. Neither did
you, right?"

---------------------------------------------------------
In truth, Flowey didn't feel anything when he twisted he truth
about his past nor when Sprite expressed how he felt about the
situation. The flower simply smiled at him; his body increased
in height until he was level with his cheek. It seemed that
there was a good portion of his body hidden under the earth...
but how long had he been hiding that?
A vine intertwined with some twisted roots wriggled it's way
from the ground and snaked it's way up from behind Sprite and
rested on his right shoulder. The cold emitting from the puck
wasn't anywhere near pleasant for Flowey to feel, but he felt
Determined and fought the urge to retract it away from him. Some
of his side petals brushed against Sprite's left cheek as he
spoke, "It's okay Sprite, who needs them am I right? Not when I
have you now and you have me too. Let's be honest here, those
two aren't going to be the last monsters whom will criticize
monsters like us for what we know is the right thing to do. We
can't afford to be stupid. Stupid monsters die faster. You
shouldn't let other like them get to you again. Prove them wrong
next time."
He then pulled back again and he simply could not hide a grin,
"Well yes, that's why, to make the Underground a better place. I
don't have to starve and monster who dreamed to even see what
the sun looks like can do it from the comfort of their own
homes! Don't worry friend, the sun will be back tomorrow. The
sun comes and goes everyday - that's how living things on the
Surface can tell how much time has passed by. The sun comes out
at the start of the day and then sets to make way for the moon
and stars at night." he then gestured to the thousands of stars
glimmering high above them, "We have night and day so that
during the day monsters, humans, animals and plants can grow and
prosper; and then they have the night to rest and get ready for
the next day. This is yet another gift that I - no, we gave
everyone. Now monsters don't have to use a telescope to stare at
gems in the ceiling in Waterfall when they can see the real
thing! The world outside the barrier is a huge place and the
humans have it all to themselves. At least now we have something
special that they take for granted."
The flower paused at his last question, carefully thinking over
his words.
"I don't know if I can trust them." he said simply, "After what
I've been through, the world has taught me that if you're not
careful someone out there - someone you don't know very well has
the potential to kill you. Even more so if they had to choose
their own life or someone else's. No one wants to die, it's a
primal instinct. Kill or be killed. That's just an unfortunate
reality."

Sprite looked to his shoulder as the root rested firmly, the
petals gently brushing past him. He felt his breathing elevate
slightly. Something about it had felt odd for a moment, probably
because Flowey had been so much smaller before. Yet it quickly
returned back to normal as he looked back to the Flower.
His words made a lot of sense to Sprite, yet there was naturally
a bit of conflict brewing in his soul, and it showed in his
eyes. His friend had spouted some revelations that weren't
entirely easy to digest. Though they were reassuring, especially
since Flowey had his back the entire time throughout the
conflict.
It was alright to kill, to save yourself and the people you
love. He didn't love those people, but he had killed to save
them. They apologized for how they acted in response but
something told Sprite it wasn't how they really felt.
That something was probably the flower standing right in front
of him.
He didn't feel as conflicted.
"...they probably don't want to see me again.. you are the only
one who came back."
"Kill or be killed. That's just an unfortunate reality." said
the flower.
When a soul as lonely as Sprite finds someone to trust, the mind
will do whatever it can to enable, justify, or even create false
realities in response to the actions of others. Any doubt that
Flowey had returned for his own sake rather than Sprite's, had
been squashed. Of course he came back for him...
"...If what you say is true... then why do you trust me? Why
don't you think I'll just kill you too?" He swallowed. He didn't
want to ask a question like that, but he had to be sure. He had
to find a reason they were 'best friends.'

Flowey scoffed, "Maybe they don't. Maybe they do. Who cares.
Actions speak louder than words. If they really were sorry they
would have been here too."
The flower sighed and even looked away for emphasis as he spoke
softly; fighting the urge of forming a twisted smile.
"Sprite... when your own parents suddenly don't acknowledge your
own existence anymore - even after being in such a loving home
for a while - it is difficult for me to know who I can trust
anymore. I was just a kid then. If I'm honest, I don't know if I
can trust you entirely. I still don't know you very well nor
know what you're fully capable of yet." he then turned to look
at him, "But I have a feeling that something is different about
you. Something special. So, I'm willing to give it a chance.
Just this once. A chance that maybe there wouldn't be a monster
out there just waiting for the right moment not to try and kill
me. So if you're willing, what do you say to us being friends?
Who knows, we might end up being the best of friends."
One of the budding leaves on his stem suddenly bloomed out like
a fan suddenly opening up. A few red sparkles fell like glitter
as a result of the suddenly-grown appendage. It formed into a
large, velvet-soft, green leaf with red veins coursing through
it. Flowey held it out and curled it out in a way one would hold
it out a hand to shake; a mask of hope and sincerity plastered
across his face.
"
