At the Door [Sans and Toriel only]
   DIR By: Sans
       Date: February 25, 2017, 4:50 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Snow was falling gently through the forest just outside of
Snowdin in the cold, still night. A short figure seemed to
struggle to make his way through the waist-deep snow - least, it
was waist-deep for him; but Sans didn't seem to be in any hurry.
He was simply heading towards his Sentry Station at a leisurely
       pace.
On his way he passed by this enormous locked door which had
presumably lead to the Ruins. The skeleton eyed it as he
continued to walk towards where he was supposed to be before
coming to a stop and shrugging, 'It's not that far anyway.' his
thoughts convinced him and he hurried on over - a lot more
enthusiastically than earlier. Sans then stood in front of the
door with his back to it, taking a good long view of the forest
before him; not a soul in sight. His grin broadened.
"Thank you, thank you, it means so much to me that you all could
make it tonight. Now if I were to ask you to stop clapping I'd
have to ask you to please hold your 'ap-pause'. Any monster out
there who actually tried a plate of my brother's spagehtti for
dinner tonight consider it -" he proclaimed to an imaginary
crowd before teleporting to the top of the building and winked,
       "-'on the house'."
He teleported again back in front of the door and continued with
a bow, apparently the imaginary crowd was roaring with laughter,
"I also have another one for you. Help me out here..."
Sans then knocked on the door, "Knock, knock... who is there...
Theadore... Theadore who... 'the-a-door' was locked so I
knocked." he jested, his shoulders quivering as he struggled to
       suppress his laughter.
"Okay, okay, here's another." he continued before knocking on
the door again, "Knock, knock... Who is there... A broken
pencil... A broken pencil who... Never mind, it's 'pointless'."
The skeleton laughed again, this time without holding back. As
far as he was concerned he was on his own anyway. After he took
a moment to recollect himself, she raised his hand again and
       cleared his throat, "Knock knock..."

Toriel would usually visit the door that connected the ruins to
the rest of the Underground and today was no different.
Carefully making her way down the long, empty hallway that lead
to the large heavy door, she'd stare rather sadly ahead of her.
The ruins where lonely. She was lonely. She longed for a friend,
for someone to talk to and enjoy, to laugh with!
But she also had a job to do...
Reaching the door she would place a gentle hand against it,
pausing for a moment to listen carefully... It sounded like
someone was over the other side and.... Cracking jokes?
Sans would soon find however that he wasn't quite alone.. Or
maybe that the door was able of laughing at his jokes and puns
       as well?
At first the laughter seemed stifled and quiet, as if someone
was trying hard to not laugh in the first place, but this was
soon followed by louder bursts of laughter and giggles, if the
door had eyes it'd probably be crying of laughter right about
now! ... Or maybe the laughter didn't belong to the door at all?
But perhaps, someone on the other side of it?
"The-a-door! Pointless! Hehehaha! Those are good ones! Another,
another~! Please do continue!" Sans' imaginary clapping and
applause wasn't all that imaginary now, as the laughter was soon
       followed by a single applause.
There would be two light knocks on the door after his audible
'knock knock' and he'd be answered as well with a gentle, "Who's
       there~?"

The skeleton whirled around with surprise, not having expected
to hear another voice; let alone from behind the door. At first
he raised his eye ridges before relaxing his shoulders,
"Dishes..." he paused for her to reply before answering, "Dishes
       a very bad joke."
He walked a few paces and kicked an abandoned tin can away
before adding, "So, uh, I'm Sans, Sans the Skeleton. I recently
got this second job you see, as a can presser... actually, yanno
what, I don't think I want to talk about that any more. It's
'soda pressing'." he snickered, "But, I mostly work as a Sentry
around here for a while now and I didn't know that there would
       actually be anyone here."
Curious about this newcomer he knocked on the door again more so
for emphasis rather than a joke, "I guess it's my turn to ask,
       Who is there?"

Another round of laughter would sound out from behind the door
at his punchline. Toriel would rest her back against the large
door, sliding down into a comfortable sitting position against
       it.
She was enjoying the moment, it had been ages since she'd
laughed like this... And all these jokes and puns where a
refreshing change to her day, she wasn't expecting something so
delightful when she was walking down on her way to the door.
Toriel would place a hand to her mouth and would press a soft
cheek up against the door as the Skeleton continued, she'd burst
into giggles at yet another punch line. "Sans hmmm? I honestly
didn't think anyone came this way, I'm glad to now know that
someone as humourous as yourself does~"
She would look up and flush a light pink in the cheeks at being
asked who was there. She'd take in a breath before replying, "I
a door" She'd pause for a moment to let him do 'I a door who'
before saying, I a-door you" There would be another round of
laughter before she'd finally answer the question, I'm Toriel,
caretaker of the Ruins, it's a pleasure to meet you Sans"

Sans grinned wider from the encouragement of her laughter and
replied, "Well if you come here often, I'd be happy to pay a
visit for the 'door'-ation of my Sentry shifts in future. It
would be nice to have someone to talk to and joke around with
while on the look-out for a change." he replied again before
pulling out a ketchup bottle from a hidden pocket in his jacket.
Then he remembered that it was empty and that he was banned from
consuming anything from Grillby's until he paid off his debt
       before tossing it aside.
The skeleton blinked with surprise when he heard the start of a
joke come from the other side - a knock knock joke too of all
things. He had the same idea as her in regards to getting more
comfortable and too sat down. His pelvis sank through the think
layer of snow which had dusted over the ground just in front of
the door. The cold didn't appear to bother him, seeing as he was
       a skeleton after all.
Then after hearing her joke he paused for a moment before soon
chuckling and then soon developed into a laugh with her, "That
was a-'door'-able, it's good to know that my sense of humor
doesn't only 'hinge' on one side for a change." he added in
       between giggles.
"Caretaker huh? Is it a lot of work? I think my brother might
have helped with some of the puzzles in there a while ago, but
uh, I don't really know for sure. And, yeah, it's nice to meet
       you too, Toriel."
Sans seemed to relax a bit more as he too leaned against the
door; the back of his skull resting on the door's surface as he
watched the snow fall. Given what recent events that had
happened to him and others around him, this was a nice change of
pace. He wasn't sure why, but this woman couldn't help but make
him grin vastly more genuinely than what most others had known
       him for.
"Do you ever leave the Ruins? Or is it a place you call home?"
       he asked curiously.

Hearing him begin to laugh made Toriel go a light pink in the
cheeks, she'd place her hands on her cheeks shortly afterwards,
laughing lightly. Hearing his next door pun and suggestion her
eyes would light up, "Oh! That would be wonderful! My checks of
the ruins would be much more enjoyable!" It was something to
also look forward to, that was for sure.
She smiled as jokes rolled off Sans' 'tongue' so easily, he was
very relaxing to listen to. "It's not too much to handle, it's
rather... Quiet and lonely though... Oh? Your brother? Mmmm..."
She'd put a hand to her chin in thought, "Is he the bold young
man whom likes his spaghetti? And hopes to become part of the
Royal Guard someday?" She would ask, that would clue her in more
on this Sans person over the other side of the door, unless
adoptive brothers of some kind, it would mean he too was a
skeleton, like his brother if she was correct on her
       description.
Toriel would take in a breath and wait a few moments before
attempting to answer his last question. "Well... Not often, and
not in a while. My home is here in the ruins and, I haven't had
much reason to leave them as of recent but. Well it is rather
lonely for old lady like me".

"Nonesense, you don't sound a day older than twenty-one." the
skeleton replied as he continued to grin, "It's settled then,
I'll be sure to drop by every time I have a shift. As much as I
love doing nothing as the next guy, it uh, does get rather
boring. Besides, you've been the best audience I've ever had."
He leaned closer to the door, sparked with even more interest,
"Yeah that sounds like my brother, Papyrus. He's so cool. He
loves puzzles - he and I usually set up puzzles all over Snowdin
in case any more humans come by to solve them. He does a lot
better of a job at it than I do though. Sometimes, I kinda just
let him take care of it. Yanno leave it to the professionals."
Sans elaborated, whilst also coming up with an excuse for his
laziness in the process, "Lonely huh? 'Tibia' honest, if that
were me in there, I wouldn't like feeling rather 'bonely'
either. Not exactly a 'humerus' situation. Maybe you might
consider coming out for a visit in Snowdin some time. I'd be
       happy to show you around."

Toriel would burst into giggles again at Sans age comment,
"Awww, you're too kind Sans~" She became excited though when he
said he'd visit by whenever he had a shift from then on, "How
delightful! Best audience? Do you mean to tell me others don't
listen and enjoy your jokes?" She would gasp lightly, what a
       crime!
"You and your brother set up puzzles for humans?" She would
pause for a moment, looking aside, "Well... That's certainly
much better then how.. ASGORE handles them.... Are those puzzles
at all harmful?" She would ask in concern.
Toriel would sigh lightly though, closing her eyes. She knew
that most monsters probably agreed with the King's view on
humans though, she was beginning to like Sans but what was to
say he was any different? She hoped in her heart that he was
       different...
His next puns made her smile lightly though, "Well..." There
would be a pause, "I couldn't say no to such a kind offer...
Mm... Are you busy again soon Sans?" She would ask almost shyly,
her voice becoming softer then before.

Sans found himself shrugging again, "Eh, I kinda get mixed
reactions. Depends if other monsters have a decent sense of
humor or not. Doesn't really bother me though, since, I feel
that the best thing about jokes is no matter how bad or funny
they are; they always managed to make others smile - and I can
tell ya that I know a lot about smiles." he replied casually
before pausing to think on his next answer. Some of the puzzles
he had seen his brother plan for appeared to be capable of being
harmful, but he really doubted that Papyrus would have the heart
       to hurt someone. Right?
"The ones we set up? Not at all. Papyrus is harmless, he
couldn't be dangerous even if he tries to be. As for me, I kinda
prefer using Crosswords or Find-A-Words and leave them on the
floor. Maybe I could get them to finish some of the ones I
started. Probably the worst harm a human could get might be a
headache? Or feeling frustrated maybe? I dunno, I don't really
plan ahead much with those things. I did start some other kinds
of puzzles a long while back but, uh, I haven't really bothered
updating or re-calibrating them. Sometimes I wonder if they even
work now, after how much it had snowed since." the skeleton
answered honestly; albeit leaving a couple of other details out.
He noted that she didn't seem to found of their king, but didn't
       press on the matter.
"Great, it'll be fun. Make sure to wear something warm if you
decide to come out for a visit." he continued before raising an
eye ridge, "Me? Busy? Unless a bus full of humans falls down
here I am never busy. Why do you ask?"

Toriel smiled warmly hearing what Sans thought the best thing
about jokes where, she adored the answer, for smiles, what a
cute, fitting and wonderful thing to think!
Sans might've been able to catch her light cheerful giggle in
       result of it.
"Oh" She sighed with relief, glad to be hearing that these
puzzles weren't harmful and neither where Sans or his brother,
Papyrus. They both where sounding pretty delightful actually,
she was glad to of been lucky enough to catch Sans today.
"Crosswords and find-a-words huh? They're delightful for
learning!" Aside from reading or having a nice warm slice of
pie, they where amoung one of her favourite things to do by a
       cozy fire in her armchair.
She made a note to gather together something warm and cozy to
wear for if she ever did go visit, before answering, smiling
lightly at his comment of a 'bus full of humans' "Well..." Sans
might've heard a gentle clunk followed by a creak, like the door
had been opened from the other side. "You offered to show me
around your place, so. Well, I must return the favour! You've
delighted me with your jokes--" There'd be a pause and a soft,
white muzzle would stick out from a small gap behind the door, a
small puff of white air coming from her nose, which had gone a
little pink from the sudden cold. "-- Might I interest you in
