Play by Play Dialogue
By: BadAssBunnies Date: April 1, 2017, 2:35 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
One of the best parts of the sim is the play by play that is
created after each bout. John has worked on this since the very
beginning and has it to a point where it flows like a real
fight. The sim is somewhat flexible and allows for him to add or
change move sets. Occasionally he introduces new moves like Hair
Mares or Boston Crab submissions or makes changes the dialogue
itself.
Here is a chance for managers and fans to come up with some of
their own moves/dialogues. Keep in mind that moves must work in
an MMA environment. A body splash wouldn't necessarily work for
a 100lb Bantamweight. Send in your ideas and they may be added.

??? That's where it gets a bit tricky. The simulator has a
pretty complex moves editor, trying to describe it here in all
it's glory would take too long.
So, the easiest thing to do is for people to think of a move or
technique they would like to see in the play-by-plays. And then
I can figure out the the technicalities.
Here's an example of a move I added: Stomach Claw
I need to know a little about the move so it can be described. I
need to know the basic outcome if the move is successful and I
need to know how it is countered. These descriptions only need
be one sentence.
I also need to know when the move would occur. A Stomach Claw
for example if a move on the ground. Other moves might happen
when clinching. Or when the defender is on the ground and the
attacker standing.
Hope that helps.

So would it be possible to create a signature move or a
finishing move for a specific fighter?

No, unfortunately. The sim doesn't allow for that. And me trying
to attempt it by creating some sort of custom setup..it would
be very hard.

I would like to see a body scissors or a body triangle added to
the ground-submission fighting. I think getting submitted that
way might be a long shot but it could cause some damage along
the way. It seems hard to get out of or reversed other than
grabbing a toe and forcing their legs apart.
A nice backhand punch would also be nice to see occasionally.
Liver punches are used in MMA and can cause a ton of damage
Just some thoughts.

I'm thinking of getting back into this - adding more commentary.
I try to tidy up the play-by-plays as much as possible and I'll
keep doing it...just as long as people are actually reading
them!
So - a couple more ground submissions and some different
punches.
What are peoples thoughts on moves being either:
1. More violent? Descriptions of loose teeth, blood, swelling,
etc.
2. More humiliation? Clothes pulling, taunting, teasing, name
calling, etc.
3. More adult? Swearing, sexual references, groping, etc.
Or....just add as much new stuff as possible!

I read most if not all of the fights. I like it when there is
something new.
I wish there was more unique taunting, swearing, belittling etc.
Maybe some rubbing it in afterwards like standing over a beaten
opponent.
As far as the violence goes it's fine but
sometimes there is too much blood.
Submission are my favorite, especially the
ellaborate and humilating ones.
You could maybe add
some combo strikes and more knee strikes on the ground
Also some comments from the corners between rounds
would be nice.
Just some ideas, I'm sure I'll have more.

Not a fan of graphic decsriptions of maimed bodies, broken limbs
and so on.
Humiliation and 'adult' things can be fun. Could there be
postfight humiliations?
Is it possible to give fighters their own catchphrases or
signature taunts/humiliations? THAT would be nice. Some of the
prefight taunts at the moment are cringeworthy, not because they
are bad, but I because I feel that they don't fit the fighter
who is saying it.

I have thought long and hard on how to add in 'unique phrases'
for fighters. I can do it, but it means input from managers. It
would be limited too, just a couple of phrases per fighter.
If a handful of managers want this, then I will start to put
together a template that managers can fill in.
I wouldn't get too graphic on the blood/broken limbs/etc.
I'll take the suggestions and see what I can do.
One other thing....what's in the play by play's that you hate? I
can remove things or at least amend them. If there is a phrase
or something that doesn't make sense, please tell me. Or if
there is one that repeats over and over, tell me. I can add more
options for the sim to that move - hopefully to remove the
repetition, repetition, repetition.
