Song of the ancients [open, mid afternoon]
By: Lyra Arundel Date: August 2, 2017, 4:51 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
The sun hung brightly in the sky on it's path ever marching to
the end of the day. Not that one could tell that from where
Lyra had ended up however. She had gone out for a walk, trying
to get a feel for the area and had spent hours meandering down
side trails in the forest. It was easy to get lost in here, she
knew that, but it didn't really matter to her. It was as nice
to just wander as it was to let her mind do the same.
Finally she came to a small clearing. It was quiet but not
eerily so. The sounds of wildlife filtered through the leaves
with the sound of a stream in the distance. With a smile Lyra
leaned against a tree and fiddled with her wing pendant. Her
wings shimmered into view behind her.
With a contented sigh she stretched her wings and began to hum.
Before long it grew into a full song.
"Kuwata tsunowo vralai
Tsuriji pufuralekai
Kwondzuvai undovartsu wronduwail
Tjortetei jeki liago
Jiunmata ivelischpfuli
Neftyoma sorepiyamei
Schijiyako alefni fatalliliya
Nic'hpisfa unhoreselye"
Her voice was soft yet sure, carefully melding with the
surrounding area. Natural, but clearly trained her voice had a
string like timber too it. The treble clef hanging daintily at
her neck seemed to glow lightly.

After wandering through the woods a little while longer,
Bridgette's ears perked up. She could hear the soft sound of
someone singing not too far from where she was. It was like she
was in a trance. Without really realizing it, she began walking
toward the sound of the girl's voice until she spotted her in
the clearing. She was an angel, a literal angel. Her wings were
outstretched behind her, but that's not what Bridgette was
focused on. Her voice almost completely captivated her.

The girls eyes were closed as she sang, as if she herself was
enraptured by the song. A subtle feeling of warmth spread
through Bridgette as she listened. Almost as if the song were
to illicit fond memories of the past. The girls voice seemed to
have an ability to touch deeper than just the feeling of
listening to it. It was an easy voice to get lost in.
"Otrajain aforeje kurasolda
Towari hatasei mic'hatasei tsufrallai
Otrajain aforeje kurasolda
Towari hatasei mic'hatasei tsufrallai ilja
Ullilya kojijichatjukaijai-wa nyame fretsumekri fretsumekri
linganmai
Ulreri manja huteharraku-mu harirch lahadachfei lahadachfei
shindulhwo"
Finally the song ended and Lyra opened her eyes, and the soft
glow of the earring dimmed back to its usual sterling shine.

Bridgette couldn't stop smiling even if she wanted to. Something
about that girl's song awoke something deep within her. She came
to this school feeling downtrodden, shy, and awkward. This
feeling was the feeling of warmth and content. She felt at ease
and almost confident, like she did when did when she was a
child, playing with the neighborhood animals. Taking a chance,
Bridgette approached the girl and waved. "That was wonderful"
she said in a soft voice.

Hearing the voice Lyra's eyes opened with a hint of surprise.
Instinctively she tucked the earring back, realizing it had been
glowing. She waved back to the girl and folded her winds down
upon her back to a normal resting position. "Thank
you, I'm glad t was pleasing. I didn't know I had an
audience.". She laughed warmly and took a few steps
towards the other girl. "I do hope I didn't bother
you though. I really didn't realize anyone was out here. I'm
Lyra Arundel.". She offered a hand in greeting or a bow
of the head if the other seemed to prefer.

The girl seemed nonthreatening, so Bridgette took her hand to
shake. "It's nice to meet you" she said warmly. "It was no
bother at all, my name is Bridgette. I was exploring the area
when I heard you singing." Bridgette's ears, which were lowered
as a sign of being cautious, perked upwards as she felt more
comfortable. "After the orientation I decided to wander the
woods and see what I'd find. I'm not much of a people person
really..." Her smile faltered slightly, but only because she
began to think of her past interaction with a group of people.
"I'm glad I'm not the only one the forest calls to."

As she shook her hand the angels smile widened.
"pleased to make your acquaintance
Bridgette." Sapphire orbs took note of the girls
mannerisms. She noticed her ears as they signaled her relaxing.
She chuckled softly. "If you aren't much of a
people person I can see why the forest would call to you. It's
a wonderful place to relax and think if you ask me."

Nodding in agreement, Bridgette took a quick look around.
"Animals are pretty straightforward creatures" she said, looking
back at the angel with a smile. "Being around them has always
made me feel accepted. Coming here was a huge step forward for
me. I can't avoid other people forever, right?" She noticed the
presence of birds and other small animals that came from the
forest into the clearing. "They're very fond of your voice as
well." Her smile grew as she let her guard down. "Are you here
to study music?"

Lyra smiled and nodded. "Straight forward and
honest. I certainly would never worry about being decieved by a
creature of the forest.". She said with a light laugh.
"University is a big step for numerous reasons, but
I'm sure you'll be able to find people who you are as
comfortable with as the animals."
As she noticed the presence of the forest creatures she smiled
and gave a sweeping bow. "I didn't realize how wide
the audience was. I am here a little bit for music, but my major
is physics. minor in music though. How about you?"

"I'm studying zoology as my major with political science as my
minor" Bridgette said with a smile. "I love animals and that's
where I saw my future heading, but then I thought about maybe
going into politics as a way to establish rights for animals
along with rights for demons..." She looked down for a moment.
"I didn't really grow up with much."
