Was wondering the same. It's like ghost town. It is and has been
getting very quite of late with no new members that leave
anything more than a single post so they aren't coming back. I
log in everyday just to see if there has been any new activity
or a post worth getting involved in but as of late there's been
       nothing new...it's a shame.

It is a shame. I've just posted 8 or 10 new items and several
info / article type threads on that other site. It takes time to
edit the same text from one type of forum to another, and there
don't seem to be any buyers here of what I'm selling. And with
no activity at all, why waste the time.
I know Richard had good intentions from the start, but the place
became "anti-thatotherforum" and then true chat such as "when
picking your nose do you start with the left or right nostril?".
I'd love another place to promote my stuff. But there is very
little "meat" of any interest to bring any new visitors back. It
had been more a few pub mates carrying on, not a serious place
       of wholesale dealings.
It's not that Richard hasn't been trying, it's obvious he has
started many threads with the purpose to get some keywords out
on the net and build some legitimacy. But when you come for
several days on end and there is ZERO activity, it's hard to
       take it seriously.

I fully agree. But it's not just here. Many other forums are
lacking the same member presence. The other side has member
postings, but like 10-15% of what it was. Other, non-similar,
forums are also suffering. Many forum managers are blaming
FACEBOOK and TWITTER. People are joining groups there and
building up friendships and contacts. Boffer has their own forum
       - It's dead. Take a look, it didn't used to be.
This may have a knock on effect from marketplaces being a lot
quieter for many sellers. Yes, some are still selling but many
more are complaining about poor sales. The big boys are
controlling ebay, for instance. There are now many more China
based sellers who now have stock at ports around the UK. Seen
several seller ID's sounding like TomTop ? Yes, I've so far
counted 11 individual selling ID's for the same China seller
who's stock is in shipping containers at Portsmouth docks. They
have over 100,000 listings and are probably the cheapest on
       ebay. (tomtop_w, tomtop_shop, tomtop_game, tomtop_auction,
       tomtop_deals, tomtop_home, tomtop.wholesaler etc, etc ) Sellers
like this are killing sales for the small time seller.
also, if it were not for your posts Pete, on dropshipforum, that
place too would also be dead. and when you think that other
forums have thousands of members and this one only has less than
100, well - it's even more dire for other forums, especially
       commercial ones.
I've also noticed a slow decline in advertiser banners on the
other forum. ebazoo is no longer a paid advertiser along with
many more. Your 6 product posts for new items has resulted in no
replies in over 24 hours (all be it nearly 100 views on each
post) which you'd have started a marathon thread if those were
posted 6-12 months ago over there.

need a good debate, me thinks.

Richard, your reply, at least the last bits, are part of the
problem, I believe. It's still an us vs. them attitude. Forget
the others, it's not a competition, What makes this place unique
other than "we're not the other guy"?
As far as my product offerings, historically they get few forum
responses. What is there to say, I offer a product and once in
awhile there will be a "does it do this?" sort of reply, but
they have never gotten a thread going, to speak of. 100 views or
more and I'm quite satisfied, because the activity I want is on
the website, not the forum. I don't sell on any forum. I
advertise there and sell from my websites.
Overall business-wise I have no complaints at all. In fact, the
thing that I've got to say right now, comparing this year to
last is the constantly growing quality of the Chinese goods and
the considerable lack of warranty claims since the Chinese New
Year, when many now items were introduced.
I'll even do a bit of a test with you, if you'd like. I'll post
those same threads here with a note at the bottom that I will
refund 10% of the cost of the goods if they mention "Richard
sent me" or something like that and let's see what kind of
orders I get as a result. I'll also copy over some of my other
recent threads, lwt's see what kind of response they achieve.

I just started to post some new goods that I have not posted
anywhere else and to be honest was discouraged from the start.
Firstly, there is no category for what in the US would be called
housewares, I think you use the term homewares. Yes, there's a
Home and garden, but what I have is kitchen cutlery, to me not
the sort of thing that goes with fertilizer.
And just the fact that "the marketplace" categories don't
actually show until entering, I just can't get over the idea
       that I'm wasting my time.
I'd really like to see something happen here, but I simply can't
force myself to spend the time where there is so little traffic
or indication of any serious trading being done.
I'd like to see a poll or just get some feedback from some of
your advertisers, stating whether they feel they are getting any
sales from the forum. Not even a return on any fee they may have
paid, simply sales they can attribute to coming from here.

we must be doing something right on here.

I would like to post long threads but my words skills are not
very good. I am concentrating on what I know I can do best
"sell" I pop in when I can. Maybe the forums are over saturated
now? Not enough hours in the day to visit them all. Maybe as
mentioned "Twitter, facebook etc" are getting more attention?
Who knows what the answer is?

agree Pete, there are no buyers here. Why would they come here?
Maybe not enough products being offered by different sellers? I
agree, I could list many more items, but whats the point if
there are no buyers. BUT, if I don't advertise then I'll never
       know !
Regarding the marketplace, we could have every category under
the sun listed, but most would be empty, making the site look
cluttered. Just ask for a category and it will be added, or even
just a 'Petes' category may suffice?
I don't understand what you mean by "the marketplace" categories
don't actually show until entering". When I click the
marketplace link in the top bar, or the two reddish banner
links, scroll down past 'Featured' products and there's the
categories, then hit the 'Add Listing' button.
I advertise on several large wholesale auction sites and don't
get a sale from one month to another. But I keep re-listing, use
as many marketplaces as possible and update my ebay/amazon and
       website listings.
Also, its not a 'us' V's 'them' thing anymore. I'm comparing a
very large forum, and others, to this one and trying to
understand why things are different here. I can tell you now
that if a few/several big sellers started advertising all their
products over a large spectrum of categories, at low prices, the
buyers will arrive. - eventually. But it don't warrant spending
thousands £'s on advertising or promoting. It'll either happen
       or it will not.
As you say about you sell from your website not a forum - how do
you know that recent buyers have NOT came as a result of seeing
a post by you here ? In fact, how do you know which avenues of
'advertising' works ? Put your stock list up with a discount
code from each advertising outlet ? I did this with barcodes
over 'there' which was TWF25 to get 25% off, and many used it. I
have one here which is WSC25 and a few have used it, then
there's FACE25 which I use on Facebook groups, which I get a few
from. eBay sales are the best, because the EBAY25 code gets used
a lot by repeat buyers. I also do this with many other products,
as it's a good way of knowing which form of promotion works best
