Waitrose Installs 'Click & Collect' Lockers

Waitrose is stepping up its game with automated
temperature-controlled lockers for its customers to collect
their shopping that they order online in areas where Waitrose
don`t have a store.
Superb I can just see a vision of a new high street where there
are no stores just a series of shops with lockers and
promotional screens showing off new wares or sites you may have
missed. Combine it with the popup stores idea and you could rent
the location for a month or two in certain areas to see how well
it works for your business.
How the Waitrose system works - shoppers place their order on
the Waitrose.com website and receive a text message with their
pin number, which they then enter on the touch screen integrated
in the locker to collect the goods they have purchased.
Orders over £50 will be free on the service, which Waitrose says
is a "UK Grocery first".
Robin Phillips, Waitrose ecommerce director says:
"collection lockers will unlock the potential for the
supermarket to reach customers in locations where it does not
have a shop and which are convenient to them".
This is the latest strategy boost by Waitrose and the wider John
Lewis Partnership to enhance its standing as a multichannel
retailer, following on from the drive-thru grocery service and
free returns service via corner shops.
Is this going to be the ‘new’ thing of the future, as it’s also
been announced on the forum that Hermes are rolling out the same
idea for parcel collection/deliveries ?
