Gords, go with the King Kong cells. FT has the best price on
them at this time (or any for that matter). The TF cells are ok
but they just can't touch the KK cells.
I'm guessing you are going to end up using the dedomed XM-L2
over the XP-G2 as the XP-G2 will probably throw further but will
be so focused that it will be useless in real world
applications. I'm betting the XM-L2 will be the way to go. ;)

+1 there. Really like the beam of the de-domed XM-L2 in the
TN31, and it still is doing 1,288 lumens at 30 secs.
Oh - I ordered a pair of button top KK's from FT anf got the
flat tops. They gave me $3 credit, but no guarantee they will
fix their stock, so beware... Kind of disappointed in them for
this because I really wanted the button tops, of course I could
use magnets, but not as clean.

I love my king kongs but fasttech's are unprotected icr
cells.....I'm not totally sure its a good idea giving these to
someone else, particularly since this light will be series
only. I'll keep looking, enerpowers are definitely out of his
budget but they would be my ideal choice tbh.
I think I'll end up going xm-l2, I just wont know till I try it,
and much as id love a tn31 the shipping from states to here
kills it stone dead for me. mrs gords would kick me in the
stones if she ever found out.

I would go the XM-L2 route as well, were it my build.
Check Fancy Flashlights/CNQG - they may have the safer chemistry
       KKs available.
I also have a like-new TN31 available, if needed, for your
       "experiments." :o

anyone aware of any reviews on these?

I'm fairly comfortable with trustfire flame 26650 cells tbh, not
heard any bad reports, but then I dont think I've heatd any
       about the soshines either.
hanks also sold out of the inr button top 26650 cells >:(

The FT Sohine's title says "4200" but lower down in the
description they say "2800". Might want to check that before
ordering. FF has a reduced price on the button top KK until the
       30th.

if you look at the single cells I linked someone asked that very
question and someone else reported testing them and six out of
eiggt tested at 4000mah, thats not so bad, as I say, the king
kongs are ruled out unless I can get imr button tops,
unprotected cells in series does not strike me as an award
       winning plan tbh
