       My modded small tactical flashlights
By: Spasmod Date: February 27, 2013, 6:22 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Just wanted to share my modded small tactical flashlights.
  HTML http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/2509/dsc02167c.jpg
Both of these used to be Xenon Incandescent bulb CR123
       flashlights.
I bored out the inside of both flashlight with a lathe to enable
an 18650 to fit snuggly inside.
With a few modifications, these were both fairly easily
converted to run on Cree LED’s. Heatsinking on both lights is
phenomenal with the head of both of them tuning into nice little
handwarmers ;D after a minute or two.
The Silver/Orange (heated ano) light is running an XR-E Q5
direct drive. It pulls a tad over 1.7amps at the tail. It is
surprisingly bright with a very wide spill but produces an
adequate spot, good for about 150-175 meters. This particular
light has a very heavy solid copper heatsink which screws in the
       Alu body.

The Silver/Black light is using a 17mm driver (all had to be
fabricated to fit inside the body acceptably) which is driving
an XP-G R5 at 1.51 amps. This particular one has been fitted
with an aspheric lens and can be adjusted for zoom or throw by
rotating the endcap. No copper inside this one but it does have
a hefty untreated soft Alu heatsink with lapped surfaces which
       screws into the main body.

Both lights are relatively small but surprisingly heavy which I
like a lot. They also both have the heavy duty twisty style
tactical tailcap with push button centre, twist for full on or
push button for morse code etc.
This last image will give you an idea of size.

Thanks for looking and apologies for the quality of the images
       :)

Thanks Dale, Still working too :D I took the silver Xre one out
this evening in fact when my boy and I went walking out across
       the fields in the dark.
That direct driven Xre is surprisingly bright. The other one is
my main EDC though as it has a low mode which is more useful for
       longer journeys.

I like them a lot, have you considered an xp-g2 swap yet? I was
blown away with the effect on my uf-v3 (xm-l u2 as standard) now
its like a true mini thrower.
I'm actually waiting on a certain someone to ship in some lights
for build up, some of them will be going xp-g2, and what I
really need to go is get some 20mm xp-g sinkpads because I've
had an idea for sn awesome single cell thrower ;)

Nice mods spasmod. It amazes me how those little Q5's throw
       driven at low currents.
