Pocket-Sized P60/Mag D hybrid - BEAMSHOTS AND LUX NUMBERS
By: Chicago X Date: May 14, 2013, 1:30 pm
<p>Who says that a Mag D can't be
pocket-friendly?</p><p><img

height: 478px;" id="placeHolder_0"
data-link="id{:placeHolderId}" /></p><p> </p><p>Here's the
breakdown:</p><p><img
src="
HTML http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d18/ChicagoX/Torches/Mag%20D%20P60/photo_39_zps08ffe88d.jpg"<br
/>alt=" photo photo_39_zps08ffe88d.jpg" style="width: 640px;
height: 478px;" id="placeHolder_0"
data-link="id{:placeHolderId}" /></p><p> </p><p>The magic starts
here:</p><p><img
src="
HTML http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d18/ChicagoX/Torches/Mag%20D%20P60/photo_19_zps3bdee1b5.jpg"<br
/>alt=" photo photo_19_zps3bdee1b5.jpg" style="width: 478px;
height: 640px;" id="placeHolder_0"
data-link="id{:placeHolderId}" /></p><p>Threading the
inside:</p><p><img
src="

height: 640px;" id="placeHolder_0"
data-link="id{:placeHolderId}" /></p><p> </p><p>Finished
part:</p><p><img
src="

data-link="id{:placeHolderId}" /></p><p><img

/>alt=" photo photo_52_zps75973a8c.jpg" style="width: 478px;
height: 640px;" id="placeHolder_0"
data-link="id{:placeHolderId}" /></p><p> </p><p>It looks good
with a 2 x 18650 body too:</p><p><img
src="
HTML http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d18/ChicagoX/Torches/Mag%20D%20P60/photo_110_zpsb306d5a5.jpg"<br
/>alt=" photo photo_110_zpsb306d5a5.jpg" style="width: 640px;
height: 478px;" id="placeHolder_0"
data-link="id{:placeHolderId}" /></p><p> </p><p>I think this is
the funniest light I've ever made:</p><p><img
src="
HTML http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d18/ChicagoX/Torches/Mag%20D%20P60/photo_45_zpsa5bdb897.jpg"<br
/>alt=" photo photo_45_zpsa5bdb897.jpg" style="width: 640px;
height: 478px;" id="placeHolder_0"
data-link="id{:placeHolderId}" /></p><p> </p><p>The biggest PITA
is the threading; the Mag is a standard 20 TPI thread, but the
P60 is a metric 1.25 mm pitch. While very close, they are not
the same and require a gear change on the lathe to cut metric
threads.</p> <p>Here's the solid copper
pill:</p><p><img
src="
HTML http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d18/ChicagoX/Torches/Mag%20D%20P60/photo_112_zps2eabac83.jpg"<br
/>width="478" height="640" /></p><p> </p><p>Driver
pocket:</p><p><img

/>width="478" height="640" /></p><p> </p><p>Here's the side view
.
The groove is for aerodynamics. </p><p>Actually, I started the
cut in the wrong place, and didn't want to waste the part. <img

nestled in the Solarforce body:</p><p><img

Yes, please !</p><p><img

/>width="478" height="640" /></p><p> </p><p>Here's the business
end:</p><p><img
src="
HTML http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d18/ChicagoX/Torches/Mag%20D%20P60/photo_53_zps6d780c80.jpg"<br
/>width="640" height="478" /></p><p> </p><p>Beamshots and
lux/lumen measurements to follow.</p><p> </p><p>I took a couple
of beamshots of several torches tonight, including this light.
It measured 44000 lux@1m with a single IMR RCR123, running at
2.8 amps.</p><p><img

/>width="640" height="480" /></p><p>The 5000K XM-L2 is a very
pleasant neutral-white, and not green at all. The white balance
on my camera shifted the color a bit. </p><p>This was only the
second light I've built that made Mrs. X say "wow!"</p>
That thing is an incredible work of art. I bet you could push 10
amps and it wouldn't care with all that copper lol.
Fantastic workmanship as usual :)

Again very nice work Mr X. Your wife must be a hard one to
impress. The battery tube to head adaptor is a work off art. I
dont know if people realise that this part was not made in 10
minutes. I love these little lights. Its amazing how
aerodynamics help these little lights perform better as well as
save on weight. With never having seen a D Mag whats the
diameter off the exit part off the reflector?
