One of the late Arthur C. Clarke’s famous quotes is “ANY
SUFFICIENTLY ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY WILL APPEAR INDISTINGUISHABLE
FROM MAGIC.” When things are hard to believe, people often
refuse to believe and skeptics have a field day. One of the
things I try to do in my Alien Log books and my lecture is to
remove the mystique associated with UFOs. I try to give a “nuts
& bolts” explanation for the fantastic things that have been
reported. I believe my years as an engineering professor have
prepared me for this by teaching me how to explain complex
things is a way that is easy to understand. I try to do this
using only three dimensions plus time and using classical
physics plus a little relativity thrown in. I stay away from
parallel universes, eleven dimensions, worm holes, and time
travel. While I do believe that time dilation does allow us to
go into the future, I am skeptical about going backward in time.
Trained observers have reported UFOs making maneuvers at
fantastic speeds, well beyond our own technological
capabilities. 100 g accelerations and high g maneuvers with near
right angle turns are just a few things these craft are capable
of doing. Any skeptic reading reports of 100 g accelerations
will use that as evidence that the reports can’t be true else
the occupants would be crushed. Our best pilots in our best
planes are limited to 10 g before damage occurs to the plane or
the pilot. The same goes for right angle turns. Another
observation is these craft have been clocked flying at thousands
of mile per hour yet they do not produce shock waves. How can
that be?
There is a wealth of information on UFOs in the form of
sightings by highly credible and highly trained witnesses. I
believe that by laying out this information it is possible to
formulate a hypothesis as to how the above speeds and maneuvers
can be accomplished without invoking inter-dimensional travel or
wormholes.
In 1947, the German Government commissioned the famous rocket
scientist, the late Hermann Oberth, to study the issue of UFO
sightings. In his report, he concluded that UFOs were not built
by human beings and that they were flying by means of artificial
gravity. Other scientists who have studied the issue have agreed
that they are somehow creating or manipulating gravity. I AGREE!
Propulsion by means of gravitational fields is the ONLY
explanation that makes sense to me.
Ask any physicist what gravity is and they will give you a long
winded description of what gravity does and how to measure it
but they can’t tell you with certainty what gravity is. They may
try to explain that gravity is an exchange of subatomic
particles called gravitons. The theory that has the most
followers is that gravity is produced by a Higgs particle, what
ever that is. With this in mind, you might well ask how then
could we produce a gravitational field?
I will take you back to 1915 and my hero, Albert Einstein, who
told us in his famous General Relativity Theory that there is a
connection between gravitational fields and electromagnetic
fields. He predicted that light (electromagnetic radiation) from
a star passing a strong gravitational field (the sun) would be
deflected 1.75 arc-seconds. In 1919, one of his ardent
followers, Sir Arthur Eddington, went on expedition to an island
near Africa during a solar eclipse and proved Einstein was
right.
So, it seems that gravity can affect light. It seems logical
then to assume that light can affect or even produce gravity. In
1934 professor Richard C. Tolman from California Institute of
Technology wrote a remarkable textbook titled Relativity,
Thermodynamics, and Cosmology. In pages 274 to 285 in this book
he derived a relationship between the gravitational field
generated by light and that produced by a particle of mass. He
concluded that light (electromagnetic radiation) was twice as
effective as mass in producing a gravitational field.
Louis Rancourt published a paper entitled “Effect of Light on
Gravitational Attraction” in 2011. He reported the results of
his experiment in which he was able to detect a gravitational
effect from a 30 deg laminar beam from a 1.5 Watt red laser.
What he found was that when the beam passed between a freely
moving mass on a torsion pendulum and a fixed mass, there is an
increase of the attraction between the two masses. He also found
that when the beam passed close to a freely moving single mass
on a torsion pendulum, the mass moved toward the light beam.
For decades scientists around the world have been working to
alter or produce gravitational fields. One of the more notable
efforts has been by Dr. Evgeny (Eugene) Podkletnov and his team
at the Tampere Institute of Technology (Finland) and Dr.
Giovanni Modanese in Italy.
For years they have been experimenting with devices that produce
pulses of gravitational fields. A full description of his work
is given in my book, The Science Behind Alien Encounters.
In 2007, at a joint conference on propulsion by
AIAA-ASME-SAE-ASEE , Dr. Dan Brasoveanu and Dr. Constantin Sandu
presented landmark papers on gravity propulsion using light.
This was published as paper AIAA 2007 - 5128 in AIAA’s peer
reviewed journal of propulsion.
In my first book, Alien Log, Corey an astrophysicist with a
passion for UFOs, runs his hands over the surface of a crashed
UFO and explains to his boss, Colonel Pete Mitchell, that the
aliens are somehow manipulating electromagnetic fields to
produce gravitational fields. Ok, you might say, how does that
allow them to accelerate at 100 g and make right angle turns
without crushing the occupants? That’s a fair question and for
the answer I will turn again to my hero, Einstein. He was famous
for doing thought experiments so let’s do one.
I am going to place you in the nose of a large rocket and give
you a cell phone so that we can chat during our experiment. I
light the fuse and off you go. “What’s happening?” I ask. “I am
being pulled down into my couch and my g-meter is reading 4 g,”
you say. I watch as you rise up into the sky and suddenly the
flames fizzle out as you continue to coast upward. “What’s
happening now?” I ask. “I’m floating out of my couch and my
g-meter reads zero,” you say. I continue watching as the rocket
reaches its peak altitude and then begins to fall. “What’s
happening now?” I ask. “Well, nothing has changed. I’m still
floating and my g-meter still reads zero,” you say. “But wait,”
I say, “you are now accelerating toward Earth at one g! Had we
done this experiment on a very large planet, you could be
accelerating toward the planet at perhaps 100 g!”

First I would like to say thank you for joining our forum and
welcome. I would also like to thank you for posting this very
thought provoking post. While I must confess I have nothing more
than a layman's knowledge of physics I have done a fair amount
of reading on the subject with particular regards to theoretical
propulsion systems of UFOs. The evidence you present in this
post is, to me, very compelling evidence proving the fact that
gravitational fields can be altered. I say altered because I am
assuming you would just be altering or condensing the gravity
that already existed. And if I understand your experiment
correctly, if you are riding the wave of the gravitational field
you would be in a constant state of 0g as opposed to going
against the grain of the wave, so to speak, and therefore
incurring g force. I would suppose that would be in much the
same way that a craft would move through a water or air current
and experiencing flow or friction. The occupants would
manipulate the gravitational field around the craft to in
effect, always be free wheeling in whatever direction they chose
to go. Essentially always going down hill or with the flow of
gravity. This manipulation of gravity also may explain the tilt
of the craft that is often displayed in photos which is probably
something akin to our "turbo" boost. So the theoretical question
of the how may be a plausible one. Next is the question of with
what? If the "fuel" for this form of propulsion may be light,
what could be used to produce the volume and intensity that
would be required to alter the gravitational field around an
entire craft? Fission I would assume? Gamma Rays? Essentially a
sun in a box with some form of directional control ability. I
assume whether in the zero gravity of space or the gravity
incurred near the surface of a planet, if you were generating a
gravitational pull in the direction that you wanted to go, the
craft would be attracted to that force and speed would be
relative to the size of the gravitational force that could be
created.

Understanding that gravitational fields can be created and used
for propulsion is key to my belief in UFOs. Gravitational
propulsion is the only hypothesis that fits the data
(observations) best. I believe gravity can be produced in both
positive and negative form. We have no experience with negative
gravity but I do not know of any theory that prohibits negative
gravity. Negative gravity fits the data better than positive
because it can explain such observations as freezing shallow
ponds by UFOs and the feeling of being pressed down when a UFO
flys low overhead. With negative gravity, the craft and
occupants simply free fall away from the field. This is all
explained in The Science Behind Alien Encounters as is a
complete description with drawings of Podkletnov's research. He
has produced amazing results. Here are some of his findings that
challange our traditional training in classical physics.
1. His impulse machine produces a strong gravity "beam" with
little divergence (ala a laser beam).
2. His gravity pulse can travel kilometers through brick
structures with little energy loss
3. The energy dissapated by the gravity pulse is greater than
the energy put into the machine (perhaps zero point energy is
involved)
4. Even though the gravity pulse can deflect a 2 inch steel
plate, there is no reaction on the machine
5. He has measured the speed of the gravity pulse to be 64 time
the speed of light
I have been told the Einstein's GTR predicts that in a negative
gravitational field, the speed of light is increased. Now, put
all of the above together and think about the implications it
might have on the speed that a gravity propelled craft might
achieve and the energy source for such a craft.

This is fascinating stuff! I know that "Alien Log III" is due to
be released soon as well as a print version of "The Science
Behind Alien Encounters". I'm assuming you will be doing a
lecture tour this spring? If you are scheduled in the Southwest
Florida area I would love to attend. I think it would be an
extremely interesting lecture. I think visitors to our forum
will feel the same and can get more information at

I am a snowbird now staying in AZ. In June we will fly to CT for
the summer. Presently my lecture schedule looks like this:

I would like to address some of the things UFOs have been
reported doing. In this blog I will discuss changing colors.
First I will discuss how various colors may be generated by a
UFO. For background information, I would like to explain some
basics. If we test a stationary electrical charge we would
measure an electrical field. If we set the charge in motion
relative to our instrument, we would measure a magnetic field.
One might expext that if we now accelerate a charge we might
measure an electromagnetic(EM) field (light). This does not
happen. Einstein has stated in his equivalancy principle that
one cannot distinguish between a gravitational field and
acceleration. Thus if acceleration would cause a charge to shed
a photon, so too would the presence of a gravitational field. We
know that does not happen. However, if we change the rate of
acceleration then protons will be shed. This is known as
syncrotron radiation and can range from infrared (IR) to gamma
radiation. If the skin of the UFO has a high current flow
(perhaps it is superconducting) and if there is a strong
magnetic field pulsing normal to the skin then the electrons
would travel in curved paths within the surface (accelerating
tward the center of curvature). As the magnetic field strenght
is varied (pulsed) this would cause varing acceleration rates
and photons would be shed. Thus as a UFO is hovering at low
energy, mostly IR radiation would occur with only a small amout
of x-rays and gamma rays being shed. Note: It would still be
dangerous to be near one for long. As the craft begins to
accelerate of move against a resistance, more energy is expended
and higher frequency photons are shed (the color changes from
red toward the blue or ultraviolet and gets brighter). Thus UFOs
appear to change colors as they manuver. Another cause could be
the corona around the craft as a result of a high electric
charge on the surface. In my next blog I will discuss how UFOs
might cloak themselves.

Yes, I have seen the reports of the vehicles changing colors.
Many of them as a matter of fact. So the cause of this could be
a very physical reason as you explain and not some dimensional
shift sort of thing. The cloaking you mention also comes into
many of the stories I hear and many times is attributed to
dimensional shifting. But I am willing to bet there is a more
down to earth answer.

Some people believe that UFOs are interdimensional travelers. I
think the reason for this belief is that frequently people will
see UFOs appear to blink out in one location in the sky and then
blink back on in another location. I believe UFOs are not
interdimensional travelers but are simply obeying the laws of
physics which we know today. Perhaps they are cloaking
themselves just as the Klingons did in Star Trek. Just before
they move to a different location they cloak themselves so an
observer does not see them. They then move to the new location
and uncloak. Interesting. How do they do that?
Alan Watts, in his book, UFO Quest: In Search of the Mystery
Machines, discusses the possibility the UFOs might cloak
themselves using strong magnetic fields. He cites the work of
Dr. Thomas Erber from Illinois Institute of Technology. Erber
published a paper, “The Velocity of Light in a Magnetic Field”
in the British Journal of Nature in 1961. In this paper he
published the results of the study he had done on the effects of
a magnetic field on the velocity of light. From this study he
produced an equation that related the index of refraction to the
strength of the magnetic field. I also suspect that the strong
electric fields around the craft may also affect the index of
refraction but I have not found research pertaining to this.
Index of refraction, you may recall, is the ratio of the speed
of light in a vacuum to the speed of light as it passes through
some substances such as glass, water, or air. Many types of
glass, for example, have an index of refraction close to 2.0.
This means the speed of light traveling through the glass is
half the speed traveling through a vacuum. A plot of that
equation shows that with extremely high magnetic field
strengths, a relatively high index of refraction can be
achieved.
With today’s technology our strongest magnets are less than 100
teslas and can barely change the index of refraction. However,
if we could produce magnetic fields that are few orders of
magnitude more powerful, then we could create an effect similar
to the heat distortion of light near a hot pavement in the
summer. Having the ability to “bend” light would allow the craft
to bend the light from behind so it passes over the craft and
exits from the front toward the observer who sees what is behind
the craft but not the craft itself.
According to Dr. Erber’s studies, the magnetic field not only
affects the index of refraction but also the polarization of the
light passing through the field. These effects are a function of
wavelength.
I believe UFOs have the capability of producing a strong
magnetic field and by doing so they can bend the light from
behind so they are unseen by an observer in front of them. In
essence they are cloaked. The evidence for this is the strong
magnetic and electric fields reported when UFOs are present.
Many readers may recall the groundbreaking video released by
the Mexican Air Force in March 2004. That video showed a
formation of UFOs that were filmed using the infrared cameras
that were aboard the aircraft. The actual mission of these
planes was to track drug smugglers by using infrared cameras to
sense the heat exhaust of their engines. Initially the crew was
not aware they were filming UFOs. When they discovered they were
recording this formation, they looked in the direction where the
formation should have been, but they saw nothing. I believe the
reason for this was the UFOs were cloaked in the visual
wavelengths but remained uncloaked in the infrared wavelengths.
