It is pitch black during the early hours of the morning in Nisi
Quentiam. In an outpost hundreds of miles from the nearest town,
a soldier on guard duty shivers during a sudden gust of wind.
Being one of the lowest-veterancy guards there, he was assigned
the pleasure of patrolling the perimeter between the hours of 1
and 4 AM. Suddenly, the power throughout the base cuts out. He
jumps initially, but realizes it's just a power outage. With the
base in such isolation, the power lines get disabled frequently.
He sighs, then activates his personal flashlight and continues
his patrol, hoping that the power problem is fixed by the time
       his break is over.
The guard walks along the inside of the fence, occasionally
shining his light onto the fence to see if there's any movement
on the other side. When swathing his light, he hears an odd
scurrying noise a dozen meters ahead. The pure darkness means he
can't see more than a foot in front of him, so he points his
flashlight to see if anyone is there. He sees nothing, and
figures its one of the rats which have been raiding the galley
       lately.
He continues walking ahead, frequently shining his light along
his path. After walking a few meters, he sees something unusual.
A hole, in the perimeter fence. Upon examining it closer, it
seems large enough for a man to fit through. When did this
happen? Clearly it's not supposed to be there. Perhaps one of
the prisoners was able to escape. He decides he will go and
alert the base superiors, and make it their problem instead.
But before he can do so, a crossbow bolt silently pierces his
skull, killing him instantly. His motionless body slumps to the
       ground.

       "Damn, that was close."
FDI Special Agent Thompson whispers after he observed a Quentiam
guard spot where he and the others in his five-man team cut
through the base's fence. The power outage meant that the
county's electrical substation was thuroughly sabotaged, and it
rendered the electric fence null. A pair of wire cutters tore
through the fence within moments and the team slipped through.
When the guard shown his light on the hole in the fence, one of
the UDT-6 commandoes on his team raised his crossbow and fired,
silently puncturing the man's brain before he could let out a
yell. He slowly walked over and yanked the bolt out of his head.
Thompson watched as two others dragged his body back through the
fence and off into a ditch. Leaning against a wall, he whips out
his walkie-talkie and extends the antenna.
       "Mac, how are we looking?"
A hundred meters away, a UDT-6 sniper surveys their position
through an infrared scope on his rifle. "That'll be the only
guard in your path for a while. Keep moving towards the target
       building. Quickly."
Thompson puts away his walkie-talkie and addresses his team, who
have now returned from disposing the unlucky guard's corpse.
"Alright, the building is thirty meters ahead to the right.
       Let's go, double time."
One of the Frogmen raises his carbine and looks through his
darklight scope, determining that the coast is clear. He motions
for the others to move up, and one by one they sprint to the
next wall in a row of buildings.
