[spoiler=History]The Arnikan people trace their heritage to a
land bridge which formed at the southern tip of the continent
around 20,000 years ago. Not much is known about these ancient
humans, but it is believed that bronze weapons were brought
south around 5,500 years ago by hunter-gatherers from the Istas
Mountains. The city of Brichta was likely founded somewhere
around 50 BC, becoming the first house of Arkaenian
civilization. Over the course of the next 500 years, Arkaenians
discovered iron weapons and conquered the rest of the
subcontinent and united it under one banner.
In 1010 AD, Arkaenian raiders begin assaulting the coast of the
ancient warring Aenian states, occasionally pillaging as far
north as Amber. By the year 1300, the western coast of the
Aenian continent had been brought under the rule of ten
Aenian-Arkaenian kingdoms. Over the next few centuries, these
kingdoms continued to grow in size and power, until 1537. Forces
led by Robert the Magnificent, heir to the Aenian throne, were
able to liberate and unify the kingdoms in a series of military
campaigns. After a defeat at the First Battle of Silvat, the
Arkaenian kingdom signed the Law of the Land, dissolving
Arkaenian influence on the Aenian continent.
In the year 1812, the Kingdom of Arkaenia declared war on the
Aenian Kingdom, and regiments of line infantry poured into the
country through the port of San Loma. The war quickly stalemated
however, and a peace treaty was signed in 1823. The Treaty of
Brichta ceased the war and marked the end of millennia-old
rivalries between the two kingdoms.
As the world turned to the age of imperialism, Arkaenia began
performing raids upon the shores of small kingdoms along the
coast of the two nearby continents, including a small naval war
against the Rocinates. The small islands surrounding the
Arkaenian mainland were colonized fully, and switched from being
small settlements to vast trading outputs. Merchants from entire
continents over stopped at the Arkaenian mid-oceanic outposts do
drop off their goods, generating a substantial revenue. When the
Aenian Empire to the north collapsed under the weight of
pro-democratic rebels, the Arkaenian Kingdom remained firm.
In 1932, when the Perseus disaster hit Aenia, Arkaenia was
relatively unscathed. Being the southernmost part of the debris
field, it only received a few impacts along the northern coast.
This left the Arkaenian economy intact while the Aenian
continent slid into the Great Depression. The Arkaenians helped
as much as they could by sending aid to the affected regions.
However, when fascism took over in Eruaenia, Arkaenia found
themselves occupied with a right-wing revolution, demanding to
take down the kingdom and establish a totalitarian regime. The
Arkaenian Civil War began, loyalist forces splitting the
continent with Eruaenian-supported fascist rebels. The Arkaenian
government had to deal with the Civil War while the Eruaenians
blitzed Amber and Sovereign-Anea, initiating the Aenian
Continental War.
In Spring 1941, the final fascist stronghold was surrounded by
loyalist troops, marking the end of the Arkaenian Civil War.
But, their victory would be short lived. Without warning, scores
of Eruaenian ships crossed the Arkaenian Channel and poured
marines into the ports of Harsford and Alder; the Aenian
Continental War had come to Arkaenia. The Kingdom promptly sided
with the Allies and fought ferociously to liberate their
mainland.
After the successful destruction of the Eruaenian Aegir fleet by
FCA aircraft, Aenia sent expeditionary forces to help support
the war effort. Meanwhile, the Monarchy raised an army
consisting of millions of soldiers. In a grueling campaign
resulting in multiple months on end of stagnated urban warfare,
the Arkaenian forces surrounded the Eruaenian expeditionary
force in Arkata in late 1943, blocking off any retreat. This
significant loss of personnel would be a blow the fascists would
never recover from.
In June 1944, the Aenian allied forces participated in Operation
Bunker Shot, pouring scores of ground forces back into the
Aenian mainland at Anchorhead. Arkaenia soon landed troops in
the port of Sovereign in a separate campaign. As the Aenians
were pushing past the Tango Line, the Arkaenian military
liberated most of Sovereign-Anea, and they rendezvoused with
Aenian troops in Hentep, Amber. The two armies marched together
all the way to the Eruaenian capital.
After the decisive battle in the Whiskey Corridor, the Eruaenian
war machine was effectively destroyed. The allies threatened to
commence a firebombing campaign of the remaining Eruaenian
holdouts if they did not accept unconditional surrender. The
Eruaenians gave in, and the Treaty of Sanfred was signed on the
deck of the Arkaenian battleship Fist of Valrus. Once again,
peace has been restored to the Aenian continent.[/spoiler]
[spoiler=Religion(The Church of Roz / The Old & New Teachings)]
The Old Teachings explain of how Roz, the Greatfurir, came upon
the universe as it was an empty plane of soil. He had with him
nothing but a seed, which he planted in the fertile ground. This
seed grew to be a great tree, bearing fruits that were the stars
and planets, out on the far reaches of the branches. One of
these fruits came to be known as the Hostren we all know and
love. Satisfied with his creation, Roz took up residence in the
great tree, so he could admire his work. Though proud at first,
Roz soon became bored and lonesome living in the great tree. He
took a piece of himself and crafted the goddess Resi, whom he
married. All other gods are their descendants, the eldest of
them Valrus. He then breathed into the wind, and his breath
landed on Hostren, blessing it with life. The greatest of this
life was Man, made in the image of Roz himself. Roz took special
care in governing these men justly and bestowing them with many
gifts. As Roz grew older, he became bored with even his new
creations, and took leave of the entire realm, to walk amongst
the heavens for eternity. Before he took his leave, Roz left his
eldest son Valrus in charge of both the realm of gods and the
realm of mortals, as he favored Valrus more than any other of
his children. Baz, Valrus’ younger brother, took spite at this
and revolted, beginning a great war between the gods. This was a
time of chaos and bloodshed, so much so that Roz saw it
necessary to return and sort it out. He banished Baz to the
roots below the great tree, where he would shepherd the lost
souls of cowardly mortals, and those of false heart. He placed
Valrus in charge of Hearthaeven, the realm where brave and true
spirits would be admitted. Roz left again, and the gods have
remained relatively without conflict since.
In 1000 AD, King Edgar I published “The Neuesbuch,” which
consisted of the New Teachings. It is a universally accepted
addition to the religion describing a more modern direct
interference of the gods in the mortal world. It is described
that when the Arkaenians were at their weakest point, and their
race was dwindling, the god Valrus rose from the sea to speak to
an Arkaenian hunting party. He said he would only provide the
power they needed to be reborn as a people to those who would
use it correctly, and he trusted the group as one of the
bravest, most pure of heart in the kingdom. The Arkaenians
accepted and were taught the ways of thriving in their climate.
In return he asked they spread their influence, and his word, by
means of glorious conquest. And so they did. The hunting party
became a band of great warriors, traveling far and wide
spreading their message and knowledge to the worthy, and slaying
peasants in righteous combat. Their message became gospel to the
people of Arkaenia. The leader of the party, Edgar I became the
king of Arkaenia, and a new golden age came upon the kingdom.
Any true follower of Valrus now supports the king is his divine
ruling, and the ultimate conquest of the world as is Valrus’s
will. If they show cowardice as a nation and stagnate, it is
said they will lose their blessing, and once again live in fear
and depravity.
