I understand that joining a new community can be overwhelming
and intimidating for some members, new and old alike. You’re
joining an established community where many of us have been
interacting and have known each other for months or years
already. I totally understand it’s easier to stay in the shadows
and just read that come out and contribute. I also know that
there are many factors, such as language competency, that hold
someone back from taking that step and I understand that. But
after reading this forum for a short time, I believe it’s very
obvious and clear that this s a very warm, welcoming and
friendly community. Just as you may have your reservations, so
do many of us. Imagine the feeling that someone you have never
met knows so much about you? It’s not the most comfortable
feeling to have. When you join a community, it’s about being a
part of that community, helping it flourish and grow.
Interacting with other members in that community, getting to
know you but also allowing them to know you and more than just
an avatar the see around all the time is also a part of that. So
there is now a hook installed that will remove the account of
any new member who hasn\'t posted within 3 months of having
joined our forum or old member who has not posted with low post
count who hast posted within the last years. I will bore you
with a short story about one of the moments that most
dramatically changed my life. It was my first day of high school
and I had just arrived in New York from Puerto Rico 2 months
before. My grandmother had promised me she would take me to
school for the first few days until I got a bit more comfortable
with the new change. She took me in the day before and showed me
where my locker and classrooms were. The next morning, before
leaving for school, she said she wanted to how me where I’d be
taking the school bus from and introduce me to the bus driver.
Instead she just put me on the bus. I spoke no English aside
from hello and thank you. One of the most scary moments was when
I got of that bus in front of the school and I saw this sea of
kids talking and laughing as the rushed about trying to get to
where they were going. I was standing there like a deer caught
in the headlights waiting to be hit by a pick-up truck when a
girl came over and said hello. She became my best friend and
surely was my savior that day I guarantee you it gets easier,
