Mainstream journalism slowly catching up:
HTML https://frenchpress.thedispatch.com/p/a-nation-of-christians-is-not-necessarily
--- Quote ---
> does the mere fact that a majority of a nation’s citizens
identify as Christian render a nation a “Christian nation”?
--- End Quote ---
No, it does not. Jesus himself warned that many would claim to
be his followers but whose behaviour would be the opposite of
what he taught.
--- Quote ---
> when determining the identity of a people and nation, by their
fruits you shall know them.
--- End Quote ---
Exactly.
--- Quote ---
> then it’s far less clear that America has been a “Christian
nation” or that our future looks to be more “post-Christian”
than our past. In fact, a more fair reading of our history is
one of conflict between Christians, where all too many times one
set of believers sought to oppress others and used the power of
government in the most profoundly un-Christian of ways.
--- End Quote ---
I would call it one of conflict between followers of Jesus and
followers of the Old Testament.
--- Quote ---
> In Lincoln’s second inaugural address, he famously said of the
Union and the Confederacy, “Both read the same Bible, and pray
to the same God; and each invokes His aid against the other.”
That was true most dramatically in the Civil War, but it’s been
true in countless conflicts before and since.
--- End Quote ---
But they do not read the same Bible! Followers of Jesus read the
Gospels, whereas followers of the Old Testament read the Old
Testament. Nor do they pray to the same god: followers of Jesus
pray to the true God described by Jesus, whereas followers of
the Old Testament pray to Yahweh, the creator of the material
world.
--- Quote ---
> In fact, in the present day, it’s still true. As Republicans
and Democrats hate each other with increasing ferocity, both
parties utterly depend on the two most churchgoing demographics
in America to attain and hold power. While Democrats are more
secular than Republicans, it’s a rump party without the black
vote, and black voters are among the most devout and churchgoing
citizens in the United States of America. Republicans of course
depend on the white Evangelical vote, and white Evangelicals
attend church and believe in the God of the Bible at rates
similar to black Protestants.
--- End Quote ---
So, how do we figure out who are the Old-Testament-following
false "Christians"?
--- Quote ---
> Well, the entire southern United States (the Bible Belt, by
the way) was essentially an apartheid sub-state within the
larger United States. It brutally oppressed America’s black
citizens, including its black Christian citizens. The Tulsa Race
Massacre happened in 1921, at the peak of white Protestant
power.
--- End Quote ---
That wasn't too difficult, was it?
--- Quote ---
> So do we want to claim America as a “Christian nation” in that
period? Even though there were millions of American Christians
who possessed and wielded power to an extent not seen before or
since? Where was the justice? Instead a nation of Christian was
proving that it could act in affirmatively un-Christian—even
anti-Christian—ways.
--- End Quote ---
We should not even call that period of the US "American"! It was
still part of Western civilization back then! Western
civilization itself rose to power in the Renaissance which
happened only after the Crusaders defeated the true Christians
(Cathars/Bogomils/etc.). It is not at all a stretch to visualize
Yahweh rewarding Westerners with worldly dominance in return for
defeating those who threatened him.
The US only becomes American and Christian to the extent that it
becomes anti-Western and ultimately anti-Yahweh.
--- Quote ---
> Here’s a challenging reality: America has become more just—and
thus closer to the ideals one would expect of a Christian
nation—as white Protestant power has waned. The United States of
2022 is far more just than it was in 1822 or 1922 or 1952 or
even 1982.
--- End Quote ---
Yes, and here is why:

It seems that Alt-Right leaders believe evangelical
Protestantism is so thoroughly in their pocket that they are
turning to corrupt Catholicism away from its "liberal" trends.
No doubt they are also recognizing the importance of
Catholicism's foundational connection to Western Civilization,
and the powerful upgrade it would make to their pro-Western
propaganda. (Why not Eastern Orthodoxy? Well, it's simply not
common in the US to begin with.)

>
> In early December, Kaitlin Bennett, the 20-something far-right
provocateur known as "Kent State Gun Girl," who has made a
career out of recording herself antagonizing liberal college
students, issued a new set of self-mythologizing images. In a
wordless four-minute video that begins with the sound of a fetal
heartbeat, a series of slow-motion shots juxtapose Catholic
iconography with a pregnant Bennett caressing her belly in front
of altars, sitting in pews, holding rosary beads, and smiling
gently at the camera. The final shot pans slowly up Bennett's
body — from feet to form-fitting dress to waist-length blond
hair — before ascending into an identical pan over a statue of
the Virgin Mary.

> In this, Liberty Hangout and its combative star were retracing
a path taken by a number of other far-right activists associated
with remnants of the alt-right and the movements jockeying to
take its place. After Canadian white supremacist personality
Faith Goldy was fired from her position at the right-wing outlet
Rebel News for appearing on a podcast of the neo-Nazi Daily
Stormer, she made a very visible return to Catholicism, and has
found a warm welcome in some corners of the Catholic right. A
year ago, Stop the Steal founder Ali Alexander made a splashy
announcement of his own conversion to the Catholic Church only
days before he helped direct a mob of protesters to the U.S.
Capitol. Several months later, in mid-March, disgraced former
Breitbart writer and alt-right star Milo Yiannopoulos told
LifeSiteNews that returning to the Catholic Church had helped
him become "ex-gay."
>

conspicuously intertwined their political advocacy with
right-wing Catholicism, including Jack Posobiec, the Pizzagate
promoter turned right-wing commentator, and Nicholas Fuentes,
the youthful founder of the America First or "groyper" movement,
who has built a massive online following. When the various
factions of the alt-right decided to gather in Charlottesville
in the summer of 2017, they did most of their pre-rally
organizing in chat rooms online. One of the most popular, named
the "Nick Fuentes Server," was dedicated to Catholics seeking
"to explore the connections between their church" and Unite the
Right. Hundreds of posters in that room talked about
traditionalist Catholicism and posted memes with Crusades-era
imagery and rhetoric alongside overtly antisemitic and pro-Nazi
posts.
>
> "Once the alt-right disintegrated in 2018 and 2019, a number
of them turned inward, toward religion, now that they've been
de-platformed and their first attempts to change society have
been rebuffed," said Ben Lorber, a research analyst at Political
Research Associates who has studied Fuentes' movement. "It seems
like a way to get a foot back into the mainstream for people
like [Yiannapoulos] who were excluded during the years of the
alt-right."

That is because you are reading the Old Testament. If the Old
Testament is your religious text, the reality is that you are

It needed to be said:
HTML https://www.yahoo.com/news/christians-oppose-masking-spirit-antichrist-223842670.html
--- Quote ---
> Obery M. Hendricks Jr., a religion professor at Columbia
University, said last week that Christians who refuse to wear
masks are possessed by "the spirit of antichrist."
>
> "These folk are not fulfilling their gospel responsibility.
They're violating it. They're spitting in the face of it,"
Hendricks said. "It's anti-biblical. It's anti-Christian. And
I'll go farther … what we see reflected in their attitudes and
their actions and their pronouncements is what 1 John calls the
spirit of antichrist."
--- End Quote ---
The Gospels are about what Jesus taught. See the difference
compared to the previous post?
--- Quote ---
> "[W]hen we look again at these conservatives, these
right-wingers that talk about 'You're infringing on my freedom
by having me wear a mask' … they don't understand that they are
violating the biblical principle of responsibility for our
brothers and sisters," Hendricks told Wesley.
>
> He went on to claim that Franklin Graham, Paula White, and
Robert Jeffress — all prominent evangelical supporters of former
President Donald Trump — also have the spirit of antichrist.
>
> This is not the first time Hendricks has attributed this
spirit to right-wing Christians. A 2020 profile quoted him as
saying "the spirit of antichrist is being unleashed by right
wing evangelicals' embrace of the discourse of evil personified
in and articulated by Trump."
--- End Quote ---

Antichrist?

Although it goes without saying that Jesus was not a Jew, the
"based Rabbi" line still applies because rightists'
interpretation of Christianity would identify Jesus as a Jew,
even if rightists claim otherwise.

another token verse to take out of context and label Islam as
barbaric. It’s “based” when white westerners preach it, but
barbaric when it’s non-white non-westerners preaching it

spire of Christian Canadian goodness, in stark contrast to the
bleak Indian reserves that surround it. In a still wild region
where it is not unlikely to have to stop your car due to a
buffalo or a passed-out victim of colonialism being on the road,
La Crete boasts a full golf course and a ski hill. I have been
there myself. I remember being astounded when we came into town.
Hours of dingy black spruce marsh forest gave way to a town that
was cleaner and more orderly than most others I have been in.
Most of La Crete’s businesses close over the lunch hour so
everyone can have lunch together. There are no liquor stores in
La Crete. Lots of hunting, fishing, and hockey.
