"I also like the public transportation aspect of China's
infrastructure"
If more rail coverage leads to less car use (which is how it
should be in theory), then I agree. Unfortunately, this is not
what has happened in practice so far:

Note from the first graph how few cars there were in the Deng
era:

This is what we should get back to.

Our enemies complain about architectural decolonization:
Former President Donald Trump trashed the city of Detroit
while giving a speech in the city on Thursday. Speaking at the
Detroit Economic Club, he claimed that if Vice President Kamala
Harris wins the general election next month, the U.S. “will end
up being like Detroit.”
Yes, America should not look Western! (I especially like in the
above picture how the comparatively least Western house is the
one which did not get demolished. :) )
The main problem is that infrastructure of that period
still had to accept modern norms in order to fit in with
surrounding infrastructure.
I am guessing there is a difference between 1) Counterculture
infrastructure that already existed vs music that should not
exist in the future, and 2) Architects catering to Western
countries vs music catering to ordinary people
Certainly there was awareness that Western architecture
was wrong for most parts of the world.
Was there realization that architects were attempting to emulate
non-Western civilizations? I would think so as with the
Romanticist landscape gardens influenced by Chinese landscape
gardens. But as for Counterculture infrastructure?

Realization by whom?

I was asking if people were admiring the efforts of the
architects for trying to revive the pre-colonial style.

I am sure some did. Some projects were government-funded, so
governments must have been on board with the idea (though on the
other hand governments also funded plenty of projects in Western
styles.....) Overall I think governments wanted locally inspired
architecture to be represented, while having much less interest
in demolishing the Western architecture (the latter being what I
consider much more important to decolonization).

“what I consider much more important to decolonization).”
So just to be sure, you want Western architecture to be kept?

No, I want Western architecture demolished.
What I mean is that if we have two former victims P and Q of
Western colonization, each of which has one Western building
built by the colonizers, and then P builds 10 non-Western
buildings adjacent to the Western building, whereas Q demolishes
the Western building, Q is more decolonized than P is.
