How to Turn Sea Water Into Fresh Water Without Pollution
“The Line” is Saudi Arabia’s bold vision for the future
of civilization: an ultra-modern city designed to house 1
million people and be entirely pollution-free. ↠Subscribe:

But there’s one problem – it’s in the middle of the desert. And
cities require a lot of water.
Enter the Solar Dome, a new desalination system built on
existing technology. It’s supposed to be a low-cost, efficient,
and carbon-neutral way of turning saltwater into fresh water.
With water scarcity already threatening the Middle East, Saudi
Arabia is the world leader in desalination, but the process does
pose problems. We take a closer look at the environmental costs
of desalination, and how new innovation like the Solar Dome is
trying to tackle these issues.

Why we should put solar panels EVERYWHERE
On our way to an emissions-neutral future the use of
solar energy is crucial. The problem: the space for photovoltaic
systems is getting tight. We need land for food, for housing, to
preserve biodiversity. So where to go with the solar
cells?
Civilization can either be Western, or it can be Solar, it
cannot be both at the same time. One means the destruction of
the other!

How the world's first sand battery stores green power - BBC News
The world's first fully working "sand battery", which can
store green power for months at a time, has been installed by
Finnish researchers.
The developers said this could solve the problem of year-round
supply, a major issue for green energy.
Using low-grade sand, the device is charged up with heat made
from cheap electricity from solar or wind.
The sand stores the heat at around 500C, which can then warm
homes in winter when energy is more expensive.

Sand for Thermal Energy Storage
Discussing the idea of sand for thermal energy storage of
heat for months intended for household and greenhouse heating in
cold climates that get a lot of sunshine. I discuss the idea of
sand verses water for heat storage and look at the different
instalation aspects like piping, insulation, and solar
collection from parabolic troughs and concentrated solar.

Solar-powered cooking gains popularity in Mexico • FRANCE 24
English
In Mexico, a grassroots environmental initiative to use
solar power to cook is increasing in popularity. Environmental
activist Lorena Harp set up "Cocineras Solares", or Solar Cooks,
in the state of Oaxaca. It promotes clean energy, health, and
environmental protection. So far, the project has reached 500
women across more than 50 communities in the state.
Ancient cultures, including the Greeks and Romans,
utilized solar energy for cooking, although it was not as widely
recognized as it is today.
The Chinese, for instance, used concave mirrors to focus
sunlight onto kindling to light cooking fires, and they also
developed techniques to capture waste heat for warmth.
Modern solar cooking methods have been developed, allowing for
the use of sunlight to cook food efficiently, although they are
not as common as traditional cooking methods.
Thus, while the practice of cooking with the sun has existed for
many years, its application has evolved significantly over
time.
