failures. They are features of every “capitalist” democracy.
Keynes himself admired the Nazi economic program, writing in the
foreword to the German edition to the General Theory: “[T]he
theory of output as a whole, which is what the following book
purports to provide, is much more easily adapted to the
conditions of a totalitarian state, than is the theory of
production and distribution of a given output produced under the
conditions of free competition and a large measure of

[quote]BERLIN, Jan. 24 [1941]—The death penalty has been
instituted as an extreme punishment for illegal price-raising
and wartime profiteering, according to a decree issued by the
Minister of Justice.
In all serious cases of price-rigging, it says, trials will be
held before special courts that will hand down sentences quickly
and order immediate executions, sometimes within twenty-four
hours. Less serious cases of price-raising will be punished with
long prison terms accompanied by fines and confiscation of
goods.
In all cases, the decree says; those convicted will be punished
further by putting their names on billboards in public.
The decree was dated January 11, but was only announced to the
