Are you a fan of Ace Attorney? If not, what does it lack
compared to Capcom’s Counterculture era franchises?

I tried playing it, but it never got me emotionally invested. I
suppose the main reason is that the setting and characters are
less fantastical, and thus do not serve my gaming aim of
escapism.

I never played it, but I just searched a gameplay video for the
first Ace Attorney you mentioned. The missions seems like a
multiple choice quiz with no adventure, battle, action, or
otherwise ‘energy’. Not to mention how much language is filled
just to tell a plot.
I can even see this pattern with other post-Counterculture
franchises like Another Code (originally for the DS) where the
entire game feels boring and with a heavy use of dialogue for
the same motive.
The only post-Counterculture games with missions that feel less
boring are games of franchises that started during
Counterculture era. But the mission quality seems to fade as
they become ingrained with 3D graphics and other embellishments
and fashion.
(Similarly Counterculture-influenced post-Counterculture era
music may surpass non-Counterculture-influenced music in terms
of songwriting and performance but gradually downgrade as
production ‘quality’ and trends upgrade. But that can be
continued in another topic)

"Not to mention how much language is filled just to tell a
plot."
This I do not mind so much. Some of the classic AVGs were like
this, yet worked extremely well:

The key is to have relatable characters.
"adventure, battle, action, or otherwise ‘energy’"
If this is what you are after, I recommend Princess Maker:

Please do so!

“Some of the classic AVGs were like this, yet worked extremely
well”
Maybe it’s not my taste. But hey, maybe I could introduce AVGs
to those who like to read novels. (I’m not into many novels
though)
“If this is what you are after, I recommend Princess Maker”
This is almost like I described. I see it is a game about
Childcare. It has the energy, but I was talking more about games
with missions involving movement and about the action (e.g.
fighting games, platform games, some RPGs).
But I could learn from that if I ever babysit or adopt a kid
(not reproducing). This might even help me with a pet.
“Please do so!”
Ok. Would you like to talk about in ‘Recommended music’ topic or
the ‘Counterculture still alive’ topic? The latter if you would
like to validate my take on post-Counterculture music. The
former if you would like to explain what qualifies music as
‘Counterculture’, explaining its history in the way you did with
these posts:

"missions involving movement"
42:37, 1:01:25, etc. of Princess Maker video?
"Would you like to talk about in ‘Recommended music’ topic or
the ‘Counterculture still alive’ topic?"
Either, or even both. I can always move posts if I feel they
belong in the other topic. The main thing is to get more
substantive discussion going.

“42:37, 1:01:25, etc. of Princess Maker video?”
Even the combat at 1:27:53 highlights my intended description
well. Cool thanks. And I can see your point about character
like-ability.
“Either, or even both. I can always move posts if I feel they

I might want to do one at a time. It would be kind of stressful
to multitask and switch from replying to one and to another.
Maybe I’ll start with the ‘Counterculture Still Alive’ topic
since my claim about Counterculture-influenced vs
non-Counterculture-influenced post-Counterculture music came
first.
