How close do we have to get to the brink before we start taking
action FFS?!

> ...
> Kurzweil says one crucial step on the way to a potential 2045
singularity is the concept of immortality, possibly reached as
soon as 2030. And the rapid rise of artificial intelligence is
what will make it happen. Kurzweil believes that our
technological and medical progress will grow to the point that
robotics—he dubs them “nanobots”—will work to repair our bodies
at the cellular level, as reported by Lifeboat, turning disease
and aging around thanks to the continual work of robotic
know-how. And then, voilà: immortality.

Why are machinists not being assassinated every day (preferably
starting with Kurzweil himself)?! We do not have much time left!

Human-beings are much worse enemies to non-humans if you really
think about it, second only to themselves. I'm even more worried
for what this means for non-humans in the long run. I suspect AI
could make the industrial meat industry even more efficient at
forcing non-humans to reproduce themselves so that they can be
murdered faster, as a prime example!?

article “Cramming More Components onto Integrated Circuits” in
the trade journal Electronics was more or less the source for
what came to be known as Moore’s Law: that silicon chips would
double in complexity (or halve in size or cost) steadily into
the future at an extremely rapid rate, leading to a
world-historical revolution in electronic devices. Nobody paid
too much attention to the article at first, but Moore kept
evangelizing for his vision of the future until it came true.
>
> Moore’s Law was not a scientific law of nature. Instead, it
was prophecy that over time grabbed hold of the imaginations and
beliefs of a couple of generations of electrical engineers and
helped give them the self-confidence to make this tremendous
achievement happen. Moore’s Law socially constructed its own
reality.

Mooreism (or should it be moreism?) is what drives the stuff
covered in this topic. Endless complexification is not
inevitable. Killing Western civilization could well be all it
takes to stop it.
More about Moore (pun intended):
HTML https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordon_Moore
--- Quote ---
> Moore was an avid sport fisherman and actively pursued any
type of fishing. He extensively traveled the world, catching
species from black marlin to rainbow trout. He said his
conservation efforts were partly inspired by his interest in
fishing and his time spent outdoors.[50]

(For the record, I still consider most of the best video games
to be from the 16-bit era:
HTML https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourth_generation_of_video_game_consoles<br
/>
This is where we should have stayed. If only we had stayed here
(instead of listening to Moore), not only could we have avoided
the rise of 3D games, but much more importantly the present
threat of the Singularity (and AI in general) would be
nonexistent.)

Western approach to food shortage: reprogram DNA so that
fertilizer is generated inside the plants requiring
fertilization.
Non-Western (ie. correct) approach to food shortage: reduce
population (duh!).
As usual, every time there is a choice between increasing supply
or reducing demand, Westerners will choose the former. And then
the problem will only return later but expanded in scale
precisely because of the former.

capabilities of humans"
