> Raymond Sykes and Kaila Boulware, a couple from New Jersey,
were driving to Florida to visit a relative on the night of 3
December when they were pulled over, NJ Advance Media reported.
>
> They were stopped because of “suspicious” driving, according
to the official law enforcement account, which doesn’t match
those of Mr Sykes and Ms Boulware.
>
> Ms Boulware told NJ Advance Media that they were stopped
because of a broken taillight and that they peacefully complied
with orders, alleging that the officers pulled out their guns
and beat Mr Sykes with a baton. The law enforcement account says
neither Mr Boulware nor Mr Sykes was harmed. A picture on the
gofundme page for the family show Mr Sykes holding up his arm,
revealing a large bruise.
>
> Law enforcement claim Mr Sykes hit one of the officers and
that the car smelled of marijuana. The couple now face
misdemeanour charges in North Carolina, both of them on drug
possession charges, Ms Boulware for minor traffic violations and
Mr Sykes for resisting a public officer and assault of a
government official. They were handcuffed and put in separate
cars and their 9-month-old son, Truth, was taken into custody,
writes NJ Advance Media.

they see that a couple are unified, they try to break that apart
immediately,” Mr Sykes added.

We cover a lot about rightist police targeting innocent
"non-whites", but a less-mentioned aspect is how they also have
a habit of dropping investigations when "non-whites" are victims
of crimes. Here is an example:
HTML https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/jan/05/shukri-abdi-family-of-refugee-schoolgirl-who-drowned-sues-police
--- Quote ---
> The family of a 12-year-old refugee schoolgirl who drowned in
a river is suing the police force which investigated her death,
claiming institutional racism.
> ...
> The legal action claims that there were a number of failures
in GMP’s investigation into Shukri’s drowning including a
failure to speak to all four children who were at the river with
Shukri on the day of the incident. Two were spoken to on the day
and the other two spoken to subsequently.
>
> The lawyers argue that police should have investigated more
thoroughly before deciding the drowning was an accident because
the incident involved a child who could not swim, who had never
been to a river before, had for the first time in her life not
come home from school and was with children she had never before
been with after school.
>
> They add that institutional racism played a part in the way
the case was investigated because Shukri came from a family of
black, Muslim refugees.
> ...
> The force is currently under fire after it was placed in
special measures by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary
and Fire and Rescue Services. Inspectors found that the force
had failed to record 80,000 crimes in 12 months and was
providing a “poor service” to many victims of crime.
>
> Attiq Malik, the solicitor representing Shukri’s family, said:
“The same criticisms that Shukri’s family raised about the GMP’s
treatment of them and the investigation into her death resonate
with the findings of the inspectorate of GMP’s conduct across
the board.”
>
> Maz Saleem, of the Justice4Shukri campaign, said: “This is an
important development in the fight for justice for Shukri Abdi.
The family has maintained the firm position that they have been
unfairly treated by GMP from the outset due to their status as a
refugee family.”

At least even Biden is saying it now:
HTML https://www.yahoo.com/news/biden-says-pro-trump-mob-treated-very-very-differently-than-black-lives-matter-demonstrators-202036532.html
--- Quote ---
> “A little over an hour and a half after the chaos started, I
got a text from my granddaughter Finnegan Biden, who is a senior
in her last semester at the University of Pennsylvania. She sent
me a photo of military people in full military gear, scores of
them lining steps of the Lincoln Memorial because of protests by
Black Lives Matter. She said, ‘Pop, this isn’t fair,’” Biden
said. “No one can tell me that if it had been a group of Black
Lives Matter protesting yesterday they wouldn’t have been
treated very, very differently than the mob of thugs that
stormed the Capitol. We all know that’s true, and it is
unacceptable. Totally unacceptable. The American people saw it
in plain view, and I hope it sensitized them to what we have to
do.”
> ...
> Speaking after Biden, Vice President-elect Kamala Harris also
said Wednesday’s events at the Capitol illustrated the need to
transform “a justice system that is experienced differently
depending on whether you’re white or Black,” rich or poor.
>
> “We witnessed two systems of justice when we saw one that let
extremists storm the United States Capitol and another that
released tear gas on peaceful protesters last summer,” said
Harris, who will be the first Black vice president in U.S.
history.
